A few media outlets reporting this morning that Palace have asked to take Ashley Young on loan but Jose has said no to a loan but Yes to selling him -awaiting Pardews response apparently

Decent squad player but I think I would be happy to sell him get him off the wage bill as we have plenty of cover and will let the young uns come through -no need to buy a replacement.

Even though I think we should've got rid of Young when LVG first came in, for some reason I feel as if Young has turned into another oshea for us! Can do a job here n there, hasn't got a place in the 1st team by any chance. but he doesn't want to leave and the club don't mind him running down his contract on as a Squad player. I can't see him being anything more than a hardly used pawn by Jose. So because of that reason, I would think its best Young finds another team before September.

We have too many players who can just "do a job" as so many like to say. We need to bring in top players" and specialists as Jose put it if we want to challenge on all fronts. Young should leave, as should 2 or 3 others if we want to progress further in the next transfer market.

I agree. one of the worst phrases in football "he can do a job there" millions spent and midfielders playing as wingers or full backs etc etc is just covering up the failings of a manager and transfer policy.

Would be happy for him to move on. Yes he can do a job but if he's behind the likes of Depay, Lingard, Mata, Martial etc what is the point of having him? He would just block youngsters and take up a notable wage.

I think we can afford to lose Young and Bastien without needing to replace them. In fact, I think the squad would look more stream lined and focussed.

If I had to choose on performances I would still opt for Young over Depay as he is pretty reliable however I still think Depay can and will come good and Jose seems to see potential from comments he has made so unfortunately that is another player Young is behind. I think Young is to good to just be a bit part player and he deserves to get regular football but just not with us. I do like Young as an individual though from interviews and he seems to love being a United player so I hope he gets a good club should he leave.

With Jose making comments about Depays confidence taking a battering last season I wonder if moving YOUNG on would in some way boost the lads confidence as in the boss thinks I can do a job on the left ahead of him.

Agreed DSG. As for Young, he's never been good enough and he's not getting any better now. Clearly loves playing for United, but time he moved on.

Not so long ago people were saying Valencia can "do a job" at right back.

Now, he is one of our most consistent performers at RB.

Don't be too quick to get rid of someone just because they can't get in the 1st team but can "do a job" in several positions.

Young has turned himself into a useful squad player, you need them when you get injuries and suspensions later in the season.

Steve, I agree with the principle of what you're saying but in this case I just don't see what positions he'd be covering? His main position is wide left, where Martial starts and Jose has made I clear that Depay will get chances (he came on Sun) . Rashford can also play there and needs the game time far more than Young.

I cannot see Jose playing Young as a LB personally and in any case Shaw is covered by Blind, Rojo, CBJ and even Darmian as things stand. Even if Rojo or Darmian go still plenty of cover!

I don't mind Young, he's dependable and being homegrown is a bonus. But I just don't see that we need him - we have a bloated squad and could do with losing 2 or 3 players Imo.

GDS2 - For every Valencia there is a Cleverley, Nani, Evans etc. Valencia has done well so far at right bac but 90% of these players that apparently "can do a job" just contribute to our team being mediocre. As Jose said when he perhaps we can have 1 or squad players who are "multifunctional" but he wants top players who are specialists in their position. That's how we get to being title contenders again, not by leaving our squad full of Ashley Youngs.
Also, I hope that post about united being sold to Chinese investors is true.
