If we get the same money we paid to get him, and then why not?

Because he is a young lad we payed a lot of money for with a massive amount of talent .

You don't sell young players with the kind of potential he has you buy them. If he is the same level he is now at 24/ 25 that's the time to make a decision.

Id rather keep him tbh.

It depends on whether he will be given a real chance here. I think he is a striker and he needs to play as one if he is going to progress.

The issue is will Mourinho give him that chance?

Mourinho has said several times this season that Martial needs to listen to him and give him more of what he wants.

Is Martial doing that enough? If as expected we sign a couple of forward players this summer where in the pecking order will that leave him?

Personally I want him to stay and become the player he can become.

But unless he is going to play regularly, and unless he is going to get chances up front then maybe it is best to let him leave while we can still receive a large fee for him. If he has a poor season next year due to not being trusted and not being given the right conditions to progress then his value will fall significantly.

People look at the Martial / Mourinho situation and put it all down to Martial being the problem but given Mourinho's track record with young players I'm not sure the problem is all on one side .
Martial is one of the most talented young players around, but he needs to be played centre forward in my opinion and he needs a manager who will show some belief in him .

The problem is we say that martial needs to be played centrally, the same argument as Rashford. And we then want a striker like a Beloti who again needs to be played centrally. Unfortunately we sometimes need to accept that certain players do not fit the manager (the same is the case for every manager sir Alex included) .
If mourinho believes he has given him enough warning and he has not given enough of a reaction then I am happy to sell. I am not sure if that is the case as recently he has been positive about martial.

I think all this talk of position is wide of the mark. LVG has gone now so we are more free-flowing. He needs to make a position his own. If he plays well enough he will do that, but the truth is he hasn't played well enough and at themoment doesn't justify a place in the team. If we sign a left sided player this summer then he's in real trouble.

Had we swapped Mbappe with Martial in the Summer Mbappe would be like Martial now and Martial would be playing like Mbappe, I feel confident about that.

All to do with man management and the way we play tactically, which is again down to management.

We saw what Martial was capable of in an awful LVG side, that tells me everything I need to know.

I wanted him to leave because I believe he's an exceptional talent. But where does he play if we sign 2 forwards?
Would Jose trust Rashford and Martial for the goals next season? Unlikely.
He'll sit on the bench and rarely get a consistent run-in.
I would be very very surprised if most of the LVG signings are still here in the next 2 seasons.
Depay, Schweni, Morgan already gone.
I'm sure Jose would let one of Darmian/ Blind leave if the price is right.
Rojo isn't going. Herrera leaving would be mental, but maybe Barcelona show interest, all it takes is "I've dreamt of Barcelona since I was 10 story and he's packing his bags. "
Heard somewhere Romero bought a house in Italy.
Jose doesn't do well with mediocrity, and would take a small 22 odd men squad with most of them being starter level than squad level.

{Ed002's Note - Lyon are keen on Martial as a replacement for Lacazette.}

Or the fact the French league is totally bang average.

{Ed002's Note - The French league managed to have a team in the semi-finals of the Champions League - England didn't.}

It's a pity we can't keep Rashtial. Rash works hard, but Martial is a far better finisher. I think it's easier to work harder than it is to become an instinctive finisher.

If united play with 2 strikers next season then there's plenty of games to go around 4 strikers. If as expected zlats and rooney go then there's easily space for new signings. there's no neef to make a decision on martial future yet and i couldn't care less if we might get less for him we don't exactly need the cash.

Ed would we be willing to sell Martial this summer? I'd imagine Lyon would have to pay a similar amount for Martial as they will get for Lacazette for us to be interested in letting him go?

{Ed002's Note - Manchester United significantly overpaid for him - keep in mind another side were only willing to go th £20M. Lyon would not be looking to pay what they get for Lacazette.}

Agree ed we paid significantly over the odds for a player with such little experience even by our usual standards of paying a premium.
He does have brilliant ability particularly when running at players with the ball. He is a good finisher.
However he has not shown up in 90% of games this season.
As we don't recoup anything like what we paid for him and assuming he is not one of the highest paid players imo its worth keeping him for another season to see if he can find his form again and up his work rate off the ball. I don't see the point In taking a 20m plus hit on him now if it's only going to cost 5m or so in wages to keep him.
People say he just needs a consistent run in the team to start delivering again. I would suggest he needs to earn that run in the team and that if he ticks more of Jose's boxes then he can fulfil his potential here. But talent alone does not make a great player. He needs to do everything asked of him to become part of the team and I'm quite sure he is never asked to do things he can't do so he just has to learn to adapt his game to the coaches requirements and try and do the things asked of him even if they don't come naturally to him. And imo to do them with a smile on your face and with a will and a half goes a long way to earning the respect and trust of the manager.

{Ed002's Note - If he stays it is one less player that will arrive.}

Don't buy it. United have splurged loads of cash on him and will want a return on this if the potential offers are so low. Don't forget, they already did the same with Depay and cut their losses. Who, by the way, seems to be playing well again and found his level.

That makes sense ed its up to the club to make that decision. If they think that they can get someone in that will deliver more than martial and can take the financial pain then I suppose Jose and the board will make a call.
How many players do you see coming in ed002? Previously Mr Woodward has said he does not see a big churn of players but since then we have sold 3. Do you see many more leaving this summer ed002?
