Hi Ed are the rumours of martial looking to leave in the summer true? Be bitterly disappointed if they are.

{Ed025's Note - i suspect he is angling for some more game time myself park..

1.) 10 Apr 2018
10 Apr 2018 16:31:51
Smacks of short termism Ed if you ask me. I know he is not the finished article but if Jose really is looking to replace him with a 29 year old injury prone Gareth bale then I will be pretty livid.

Can’t blame martial he has 21 goals this season in all comps second only to Lukaku and played far less games. This has a feeling of De Bruyne if you ask me. Just my humble opinion 😂. Would much rather he was sent on loan.

{Ed025's Note - a loan to everton sounds good to me park..i love the guy..

2.) 10 Apr 2018
10 Apr 2018 17:17:21
I’m fairly certain marital has 12 goals. he's a fantastic talent but doesn’t perform consistently enough, and if he doesn’t want to be here then get rid. If he does want to stay, he needs to get his head down and work hard.

3.) 10 Apr 2018
10 Apr 2018 17:58:57
My mistake caolan was meant to say goals and assist. All together it would be 19 not 21. Agreed mate consistency is a problem but getting rid would be a huge mistake. If he wants regular play time a loan is better.

4.) 10 Apr 2018
10 Apr 2018 16:46:50
Would be a great move ed he would get regular game time and in the premier league. But only if big sam is not managing him. A fonesca or Marco silva would do nicely! Fingers crossed he isn’t leaving but I’m not optimistic unfortunately. Thanks for your input as always ed much appreciated.

{Ed025's Note - no problem mate..

5.) 10 Apr 2018

This will be our kdb moment and given who the coach is not a surprise.

6.) 10 Apr 2018
10 Apr 2018 18:40:48
Need to remember he is still young and developing. To maximise his potential he needs to play. I can’t blame the lad for looking elsewhere. The club took his number off him after he was trying to build a brand, we then bought Sanchez and moved him from his favoured position to the right. We then did not give him a run of games to get use to being on the right and then dropped him.

It does not demonstrate that he is valued. More gives the impression of you are here to make up the numbers and will be moved around or messed around as soon as we sign somebody else. I would be gutted if he left.

7.) 10 Apr 2018
10 Apr 2018 19:29:29
I wanted him loaned out this season. He needs to play to improve and the scope for improvement is huge.

8.) 10 Apr 2018
10 Apr 2018 19:38:01
Don’t be agree or get the love in with Martial. He’s a 1 in 5 player, and he needs to work hard every single day he’s here to prove he’s worth his chance.

We vastly overpaid for him in desperation and has been ok, but Rashford stays and plays more then fine by me.

Of course he could be awesome and fingers crossed it’s more media nonsense and he becomes a world class talent for us but he’s a striker not a winger.

9.) 10 Apr 2018
10 Apr 2018 19:56:07
Caolan this is utd player's minutes per goals or assists ratio.

Lukaku- 110 mins per goal/ assist
Rashford- 111 mins
Lingard- 108 mins
Martial- 103 mins

Looks more like we just don't give him a consistent enough run to actually let him perform well consistently. He was utd player of the month 3 times this season until the 500k man arrived then mourinho did what he does best with young attacking players.

10.) 10 Apr 2018
10 Apr 2018 20:50:03
Is it a case of the manager wants rid or the player wants to leave. Quite a lot quick to blame Jose an cite de bruyne but I think eds said that wasn't down to Jose.

11.) 10 Apr 2018
10 Apr 2018 22:28:15
Sanchez is ten times the player Martial is right now. Blaming Jose for his sulky nature and lethargic style is ridiculous. Don’t get me wrong he has the potential. But he needs to work hard to get there. Where is he realistically going to be allowed to move to that are equal to Utd and actually start matches? Modern footballers wind me up no end.

12.) 11 Apr 2018
11 Apr 2018 00:26:18
Martial reminds me of Nani. Extremely talented but not consistent and extremely frustrating. Not sure if it's an attitude or lifestyle problem but he needs to change.

13.) 11 Apr 2018
11 Apr 2018 00:49:21
Csm, I understand those stats, but they can be misleading eg the opening day he scored and assisted with 10 minutes left, but it shows the talent. Unfortunately, He’s not progressed in 3 years, his first season here was without doubt his best. He needs to show more and just keep an eye on Tahith Chong, works his backside off and looks a top talent. I don’t think martial has the desire, so if he wants to leave, let’s get a good price and move on.

14.) 11 Apr 2018
11 Apr 2018 01:12:38
Don't disagree Eric, but that 10 times the player has also been ten times the tripe and not been benched, if martial had 1 game like Sanchez had a dozen he won't be starting for most of the 12 or so Sanchez has played for us.

15.) 11 Apr 2018
11 Apr 2018 05:35:26
Caolan I don't have a problem with selling martial if the replacement is someone like a dybala but mourinho will replace martial with the Croatian Ashley young because he tracks back better. 2-3 years down the line when martial would be tearing it up in a team that actually is allowed to attack we will be in a Wayne Rooney situation with 2 30+ pace merchants who would have lost their pace and will be on high wages and whichever poor sap replaces mourinho will be left dealing with the issue and again we will be in a transition period.

16.) 11 Apr 2018
11 Apr 2018 09:50:23
Perisic is twice the player Martial is at the moment in the wingers position.

He will do the job Mourinho requires him to do.

17.) 11 Apr 2018
11 Apr 2018 10:09:34
MARTIAL's problem is Martial. Talent but gives the impression he only does what he thinks is enough which isn't always enough. If a deal to be had is better then let him go but not cheaply.

18.) 11 Apr 2018
11 Apr 2018 10:43:51
What exactly is this job Singh.

Martial pl stats- 1347 mins 9 goals 5 assists

Croatian Ashley Young serie a stats- 2686 mins 9 goals 5 assists.

Sqauwka do a defense score in their comparison matrix it reads

Croatian Ashley Young- -23.9
Anthony Martial- 60.82

Doesn't seem like a defensive stalwart by looking at those stats. Only thing Croatian Ashley Young is better at than martial is his crossing and having watched him more than a few times, it ain't something to write home about. If we sign an actually decent lb we will get a crosser most likely better than the Croatian Ashley Young.

19.) 11 Apr 2018
11 Apr 2018 11:27:55
Perisic is a decent player nothing more .
Done ok at inter last couple of years nothing more . will be 30 next season.

20.) 11 Apr 2018
11 Apr 2018 11:41:23
Perisic is a decent player, who has had a couple of seasons of good form. But as CSM points out he is performing at currently around the same level as Martial. However, Martial has potential to get better whereas, Perisic will only decline.

However, Perisic plays predominantly on the left, Martial supposedly isn't happy because Sanchez has taken his place. Rashford supposedly isn't happy because he isn't starting as many games as he would like and he too has predominantly played on the left for Jose.

So we have three players two of which are talented young players who all predominantly play on the left.

Lingard has stepped up this year, and Mata remains consistent, we then have Angel Gomes and Chong in particular knocking on the door.

So why do people think that if Martial leaves he will be replaced?

If he leaves we probably won't see anyone come in to replace him. Sanchez has already done that.

Jose wants at least one full back, preferably two. A centre back despite already signing two and having a super talented Tuanzebe coming through. And at least one if not two midfielders again having already signing two, and having McTominay, TFM and Andreas Pereira trying to break through.

The forward positions are bottom of the list and we will only likely see another forward join after 4-5 other players who are higher priority. Which means we won't be signing one.

So by all means wish a super talented young player away, but don't cry when he isn't replaced and he goes on to become a star else where. Just like Lukaku, De Bruyne and Salah did after Mourinho wasted their potential.

21.) 11 Apr 2018
11 Apr 2018 11:58:14
Martial has been good this season when he's played. Has electric pace and the type of dribbling where it feels like the ball is glued to his foot. How many players in the world can you say that about? Add to that ice cool finishing and solid link up play. He is being wasted and will come back to haunt Mourinho like De Bruyne and Salah. Play Sanchez on the right (where he got his best goal and assist stats. Where he is comfortable playing) and Martial on the left of Lukaku. Serious skill, speed and finishing ability in that front 3 with Pogba supporting from deep.

But of course none of this is going to happen. Sanchez will play on the left to stunt Rashford and shuttle Martial out the door, while Martial will come back to piss all over us one day. Mourinho logic.

22.) 11 Apr 2018
11 Apr 2018 13:11:53
Sorry but csm I don’t get why you’re comparing him to Persic, a completely different style of player? Once again thought it’s a minpulation of stats, whilst comparing two completely different players. I could find you a stat that says Milner was more creative than Scholes. I understand a lot of fans on here love martial, heck I’m a big fan of his, due to his talent but he’s not progressing on. Let me ask you this, would he have dug in on Saturday like Sanchez and tried to eat us big in the game. I don’t see the attitude from him that will make him a really top class player, that I know he can become. As snappy says there are young hungry players coming through the academy, so maybe let’s promote one and stick to the club values? Rather than spending our time on a player who has rejected a new 5 year deal (which shows the club value him) . It’s that reason why I’m not opposed to selling him.

23.) 11 Apr 2018
11 Apr 2018 13:45:56
Martial isn't going yo get chances at United until Mourinho is here. Like Shappy has said Sanchez has already replaced him and if Mourinho signs another attacker it will limit his progress further.

He could be a superstar in the making but it just isn't going to happen at United unless something drastically changes.

Hr has had enough chances to prove himself at lw but hasn't really done much, stats are stats and it makes Ban Dost look like world class.

24.) 11 Apr 2018
11 Apr 2018 14:01:30
So people want to sell martial?
Lot of people trying to justify the sale .
I do wonder if people would be wanting to get rid rid of him if it wasn't for the fact it's in the press .

Same goes for perisic being twice the player martial is . I doubt that would be the case if he wasn't linked to us last summer .
If martial signs a new contract has the club and Jose made a massive then reading above .
In fact are they in the wrong offering him a new contract?

25.) 11 Apr 2018
11 Apr 2018 14:06:15
Perisic is twice the player Martial is at lw. Have you not seen how many times Martial loses the ball, makes wrong decisions and just stands their confused or even sulks when things don't go his way at lw.

Martial has loads of potential but not at lw. He will never be a winger unless he changes things draatically.

26.) 11 Apr 2018
11 Apr 2018 14:11:48
Perisic is a lw isn't he caolan, milner scholes comparison is stupid but lw is lw styles might be different but end result expected is the same, it isn't mf where a pogba has different job to a matic. Your job as a lw is scoring or creating goals. Ronaldo and Beckham were different players with different styles but we expected both to either create or score goals. If we sign a lw we will expect him to score and create won't we?

You ask about the city, you seem to forget that it was martial who assisted lukaku in the Chelsea game for the equalizer and scored the late winner against spurs.

Also it's funny you complained about martial being inconsistent yet bring up Sanchez in comparison a player who has been nothing but inconsistent for us.

27.) 11 Apr 2018
11 Apr 2018 14:16:38
Do you have some substance to back up this twice the player stance Singh because there isn't any metric out there that proves perisic is better than martial let alone being twice the player.

28.) 11 Apr 2018
11 Apr 2018 14:41:39
CSM, I didn’t say Sanchez has been consistent did I? Merely pointing to the battling performance at the weekend I don’t think martial may be capable off, and he hasn’t shown that yet. Also shall we go back to that Chelsea game? He played a lovely pass to lukaku for the goal, and then was god awful after that.
And no I don’t agree that you can compare persic to martial, as all you’ve done is take statistics and use them as gospel. Don’t understand how you can say that’s a fair comparison but Milner to Scholes isn’t? Both play in the midfield don’t they?
Also if you read my post you’ll see that I don’t dislike martial, but he’s not been consistent enough, or hell even progressed. If he misses a chance his head drops, eg the Newcastle away game. He has all the talent in the world but I don’t know if he has the desire to achieve it. His movement off the ball at times is non existent, he would reluctantly go backwards, is he capable of a high press? The talent is there. He needs to work hard and fulfill that potential. I’m order to achieve that if he feels the need to leave then good luck to him. It’s the same with pogba.

29.) 11 Apr 2018
11 Apr 2018 14:45:16
The main complaints about Martial is he doesn't track back, he is inconsistent, he loses the ball often and he should when things don't go his way.

Obviously the people voicing these complaints either haven't been United fans that long or they have very short memories.

All of the above could have been leveled at a 21 year old Ronaldo.

Sulks if he doesn't get the ball, inconsistent, doesn't track back, loses the ball.

Very short memories.

30.) 11 Apr 2018
11 Apr 2018 14:51:53
Shappy, my criticism isn’t entirely based around work rate, but is he putting in the work Ronaldo did? We don’t know. Also the reason I’m leaning towards selling him is that the various reports state he rejected a contract. If that’s the case and he doesn’t want to be at united anymore then sell him.

31.) 11 Apr 2018
11 Apr 2018 14:54:41
If Ed 2s about can you clarify it was de Bruyne who wanted to leave Chelsea. Also same with Lukaku and Salah. Apologies I know you've this before but I think it just needs to be clarified.

{Ed002's Note - De Bruyne and Salah both wanted to leave for specific reasons and Chelsea did not stand in their way. Lukaku did something which meant he would never return to Chelsea from loan and would never play for the club again.}

32.) 11 Apr 2018
11 Apr 2018 15:15:03
Caolan
So if it is true that he has been offered a contract are the club and Jose wrong to offer him one based on the negatives above .

Very talent young player and people want to sell him?
I hope he stays and relises his potential at United.
Got to wonder what some on here would of thought of a young Ronaldo.
Singh
Have you actually watched perisic, he really isn't twice the player martial is .

33.) 11 Apr 2018
11 Apr 2018 15:51:44
Caolan again remind me what Sanchez did other than the 2 assists before or after? He is 22 if you expect a 22 year old attacker in a jose mourinho team to be consistently brilliant either you are naive or have never watched football.

Most reports suggest that he isn't happy with the playing time which has been compounded by the signing of Sanchez, he isn't wrong in that is he. He rightfully started on the bench rather than first 11 this season because of his last season performances but then performed well enough to displace rashford and was one of our better attacking players until Sanchez arrived. Would you sign a contract if you get benched for multiple games after a single bad games but are forced to change position because a new player comes in who then proceeds to set new standards on how bad you can play but this player never gets benched.

About perisic martial comparison, you keep bringing milner and scholes in the conversation when they don't play the same position or are expected to do the same job yet ignore my Ronaldo and Beckham comparison because it doesn't suit your point. There is no real stat or fact or anything that can firmly say that perisic is better than martial so you come up with stuff like goals and assists aren't the only things we rate wingers on, fact is that is the biggest point on which people rate attackers on.

You don't want Sanchez or griezmann ahead of martial or rashford because they run more or track back but because they are better going forward and the Croatian Ashley Young ain't.

34.) 11 Apr 2018
11 Apr 2018 16:01:24
Media spouts nonsense and the page goes into meltdown blaming Jose for this and that. Blah blah noise. Read what ed2 says above. None of which had anything to do with Mourinho. It’s very tiresome reacting from day to day on this stuff.

Jose hates youngsters so much he didn’t go to school and won’t talk to his children until they’re 25.

{Ed001's Note - that's not true Jose loves kids, on toast with a bit of cheese, but he couldn't eat a whole one...}

35.) 11 Apr 2018
11 Apr 2018 16:31:49
Eric, I believe both Salah and De Bruyne left Chelsea for more playing time, in fact for any playing time as he wouldn't pick them.

Are you suggesting that Jose doesn't get to pick the team?

Jose may not have activity tried to sell them, but he didn't give them a chance. So they had to leave to further their careers.

No one is saying Martial, Shaw and Rashford want to leave United because they have it in Manchester, not is anyone saying they are being forced out by Jose. Merely Jose doesn't trust young players, he doesn't progress them as he doesn't create an environment for them to flourish. He would rather sign older players because Jose doesn't think about next season or the future of the club he is working for, he only cares about this season and how many trophies he can win for Jose Mourinho.

That is why he is a short term manager, and unless he wins the title next season he won't be our manager by the start of the 2019/ 20 season.

{Ed002's Note - No it was not really the situation with either player, it was more complex than that.}

36.) 11 Apr 2018
11 Apr 2018 16:38:04
So where have I put down persic is better mate? And I’ll comment on Ronaldo and Beckham if you want. Two completely contrasting styles of players yet again. Only here for a bit of a debate and to give my opinion. No need to call me naive or question whether I’ve watched a game. At the end of the day you have your opinion, and I may not agree with it but it’s not me having a go, because we all have an opinion and no one is right or wrong. Last I’m going to say on the matter.

37.) 11 Apr 2018
11 Apr 2018 16:55:31
And sorry I just seen the question about whether the club should offer him a new deal from Jred.
I’m reaponse mate, if the club feel he can fulfill his potential and he’s willing to work hard to do so then off course like I said earlier. There’s no doubting his potential at all the main reason I’m saying about getting rid of him is the fact that he’s apparently turned this deal down. My point is I don’t think he’d be as missed as people say, but it’s only my opinion.
At the end of the day I’d love him to stay here and become a legend, score 200+ goals. However, at this moment I don’t see that happening. I hope I’m wrong, but if he wants out, let him out. Last I’m saying.

38.) 11 Apr 2018
11 Apr 2018 17:08:25
Didn't mean to cause offense caolan, sorry if i have. But it is annoying when people expect consistency from 22 year old attackers especially given our attacking play.

39.) 11 Apr 2018
11 Apr 2018 17:10:59
When Ronaldo was here it was a differenr situation . We had fergie as our manager, we didn't have to compete with 4 other possible premier league challengers . We had a proper defence had a very good midfield had Tevez and Rooney and vannisteroy so we couldve carried a 21 year old inconsistent Ronaldo and even then he Ronaldo showed more skill then Martial has in his time here.

40.) 11 Apr 2018
11 Apr 2018 17:20:35
No worries CSM. I’m not expecting Ronaldo/ Messi performances but I get frustrated with him because of how much ability he has, and I’m sure there are many who want to see a hell of a lot more from him because we know that potential.

41.) 11 Apr 2018
11 Apr 2018 18:00:32
Singh
After reading all that then you want to sell him?

42.) 11 Apr 2018
11 Apr 2018 18:28:37
Shappy he can only play 11 players at a time. Jose thinks sanchez is better than martial. I agree with him. He also thinks at this time that rashford is a better option than martial. I agree with him. He thinks lukaku is a better option i agree with him.
Its just The managers preference.
Lampard said last night that he never saw the potential in salah nobody at chelsea did and his leaving had nothing to do with jose personally nor did kdb leaving.

43.) 11 Apr 2018
11 Apr 2018 19:03:49
Looks like I’m massively in the minority but if it were a simple case (which it isn’t of course, with £/ age factors) of Martial or Bale, I’d have Bale every time. So he’s much older, past his prime and with a questionable injury history. But he’s still got plenty left in the tank. Martial was a panic buy worth nothing like what was paid and has never been as good as his debut against Liverpool. Next Henry? Give me a break, he’s not on the same planet.

44.) 11 Apr 2018
11 Apr 2018 19:14:35
Again Jred its about if Martial can be happy being part of the squad then he should stay but if he wants more game and if Mourinho isn't going to give him assurance then for his own career he should move elsewhere to get the game time he badly desires.

I would keep him if i was in charge at the club but i am not and i am here debating with you like many others.

You can't keep everyone happy and if Martial really wants to fight for his place and like mentioned in the media the contract is on the table foe him then he should sign it and fight for his player like everyone else.

If i was him personally i would make a move and get the game time i so badly want.

There are so many good clubs around the world he can make a name wirh foe himself.

45.) 11 Apr 2018
11 Apr 2018 21:19:51
Singh
You seem to of given a lot of reasons to get rid of him.

46.) 11 Apr 2018
11 Apr 2018 22:48:26
I don’t really post on here much just like reading everyone’s opinions but this thread is ridiculous.

Also I don’t know if you guys played football or if you did to what standard but if I was either martial or Rashford I’d be looking to the likes of Sanchez and Lukaku etc and saying help me. Looking at these players day in day out should show you what you need to improve yourself.

Martial has bags of potential BUT does he want to fight for his place and prove that he deserves to stay there? Does he try and adapt his game to fit playing right wing? Is he trying to develop himself after training etc or does he go home straight away? We don’t know the answers to these questions so therefore we don’t have that much knowledge on the matter.

I also seem to remember an attacking midfielder that had was better than Wayne Rooney when we signed him, he had bags of potential to. that was ANDERSON. Great potential turned into an average player.

Talent doesn’t automatically mean your going to be a star, you still have to work and dedicate yourself to the game so that you can maximise your potential e.g Ronaldo.

I don’t want him to leave but the club may see him strolling around in training not over bothered, bad attitude etc, not willing to learn blah blah blah. They are in the best possible position to make a decision on getting rid of him.

47.) 11 Apr 2018

Gazza91 top post that.

If that was the case why would they offer him a new contract.

49.) 12 Apr 2018
12 Apr 2018 16:21:11
So if the player wants to leave should we keep him jred?

50.) 12 Apr 2018
12 Apr 2018 18:18:11
Ken
If he wants to leave and won't sign a contract then it would be best to let him go .

But all this we should sell because of x y z are a bit silly imo .
If there were not rumours in the papers very few would want to sell a very talented young player .

51.) 12 Apr 2018
12 Apr 2018 23:09:22
I wanted him to go on loan this season i feared that this would be The situation if he didn't. He actually got more game time than i thought he would be given.
He does have potential and now we are 1 year further down the line and we are none the wiser and he is no closer to fulfilling that potential if he had a hreat season in italy or spain then at least he would be coming back proven and confident and be a more rounded and experienced player. But now starved of meaningful gametime we have forced him into a corner.
But to be fair he hasn't forced himself into the team either.
Hindsight is 20/ 20 vision i suppose.

52.) 13 Apr 2018
13 Apr 2018 10:13:03
He has been offered a 5 year contract which talks you a lot .
40 appearances so far in the EPL only lukaku has scored more
If he had went out on loan would he of gained more than that?
Who would of taking up the slack of him not being here?
How would his situation now of been any different, lukaku Sanchez etc would still be at the club he would still want reasurrences over his playing time .
New contract with a lot of other options as he is a top player, big decision .
