Spot on. These aren't players who don't have the qualities to be huge successes here, just players who for whatever reason aren't performing to the level they are capable of.

Surely the focus now should be getting the most out of these players.

There has been a lot of negativity on here recently, and I am guilty of being overly negative in recent months.

However, if Shaw, Bailly, Lindelof, Pogba, Sanchez, Martial, Rashford and Lukaku can all play to their potential we have a team more than capable of challenging and even winning titles. Add to that players like DDG, Matic, Herrera, Fred, Lingard, Mata and Valencia who are very good players who have all done well or have the potential to do very well for us.
Then look at young players such as Dalot and Andreas Pereira who could step up this year. As well as players like Tuanzebe, TFM, Chong and Homes who look like great prospects for the future.

We have a lot to look forward to. What we need is to get the best out of what we have while nurturing the younger players and help them grow.

{Ed025's Note - if as you say shappy that these players are top quality (which i agree with by the way) then something somewhere is not right, i believe its down to the manager not being good enough myself as his job is to motivate these players to be the best they can be, people will point to his past record but thats exactly what it is... the past, the game has evolved and managers like klopp, pep and pocchetino are the example to follow with their brand of exciting high tempo football which is not only effective but pleasing on the eye mate, and until you ditch the dinosaur things at united will not change im afraid...just my opinion of course..

You can't really use an cricket analogy in football. Ali is playing on a pitch which is very dry and suits spinners hence why he has been good in this match.

In regards to our player, you are absolutely spot on some of our players need to look at the mirror and see where are they going wrong.

Some of them think they are better then what they are and are forgetting the basics.

Of course you can Singh, Moeen has admitted it himself, his confidence was low and now it is high.

Cricket and football is a compeltely different sport as there's a lot more variations in cricket which can suit one player and not another.

I agree with you about confidence and i reckon a lot of our own olayers lack confidence but i don't know why. They have to pick themselves up and believe in themselves again and be the matchwinner we all know they can be.

The big issue is some of these players are just not good enough to be ina top side and our defence is the biggest issue. Once you fix the defence the rest will play a whole lot better.

Is our defence that bad?

We have DDG in goal, arguably one of the best goalkeepers in the world if not the best.

Valencia has been solid defensively it is his poor end product when getting forward that let's him down.

Dalot, looks a good prospect at RB to replace Valencia in the not too distant future.

At LB we have Shaw who has been one of our best players so far this season.

Young, did a great job last season and could cover again this season if need be.

Bailly, is our best CB. And is actually a great young defender. He is clearly lacking confidence atm.

Lindelof had a great year at Benfica before joint us, and was excellent for Sweden at the world cup. He too appears to be lacking confidence, he actually played well in the final month or two of last season.

Jones when fit rarely let's us down.

Both Smalling and Rojo have their limitations, mostly prone to a silly error. But on the whole they haven't been awful bar the odd game or two.

I agree there are a few better defenders out there but they are few and far between. I think too much was made of the need to sign a CB this summer and maybe it's undermined our current CB's confidence.

I think the better approach would be to shift focus during games and spend more time going forward and therefore inviting less pressure on our defence.

Shaw was playing perfectly fine the vast majority of games he played. One or two he was a little rusty which is to be expected. I can barely remember any game where he was one of our poorest performers.

The manager just didn't pick him. He is not dropping him now like he was last season, that is the only difference.

Jose's current weakness means he can't afford to be too blatant with his dislike for Shaw as a player as the fans and media are looking for any excuse. Shaw is benefiting from a fragile Jose.

I think we need a system that gets the most out of what we have and covers the faults. 3 at the back gives extra stability and allows the midfield to push up. Wingbacks negates our lack of wingers and puts Sanchez more central.

Just a quick point, i'd like to know just how much more influence agents now have on players routines, a certain agent revealed he liked his client to be looking for a move with about 18 months left on his contract, (whether he was happy at a club or not! ), so as to get his cut of the transfer pie or to talk up improved terms and bonus' to get his cut, mix that with increased commercials potential and branding, its like the player hasn't enough time to play football!
