Initial reports we bid £40 million yesterday do you believe clowns like Ed have gone straight to £55 million in a day, took us a month to buy a player at £15 million. I fully expect we will be overpaying for fourth or fifth choice players a week before the deadline closes, as usual.

M. E. N reckon the bid was made and rejected a week ago (Not sure how reliable they are) . May be Utd have made another bid.

If it takes 60 million pay it because if we don’t someone will and we’ll end up with 2nd or 3rd choice and regret it, get him and we’ve got a class fullback for next 10 years, looks like 50 million going rate for a decent fullback now.

I’m as eager as anyone to see our squad improved but I don’t get the “just pay it” approach. There are budgets and valuations to consider. Would like us to sign AWB, looks to have everything needed to be a top modern day full back, but he’s not worth £60m+ with 1 good season under his belt, even in today’s market.

Would be interested to know what fee Palace would quote if the likes of Everton and West Ham were enquiring. Probably half what we’ve been quoted.

Why would Palace sell him to Everton or West Ham for half the price? That just doesn't make sense. Palace are under no pressure to sell, he's one of the most promising full backs in the country, the player isn't agitating for a move, he's still under contract so if somebody wants him they'll have to make Palace an offer they can't refuse.

Didn't Everton buy Richarlison from Watford for around £50m after only playing one season in the Premier League?!

It's the same for the likes of Maguire and Maddison. Their values are being pushed through the roof as Clubs are no longer under financial pressure to sell players, they are better equipped than ever before to retain their best players so if players have signed long term contracts getting them from other Club's is difficult and very expensive.

Jaime,

Dan James’s father died while we were sorting out the deal, did you want the club to ignore than just so we looked like we had completed the deal quicker? Sure you would still have found something to moan about then.

I heard. this is the time Ed has taken " pay whatever is rigidly asked and close the deal" approach. That's why second bid is excatly what palace has asked for. I mean it would be with add ons but matching. it also says it will be done till 14th this month.

DLIB I think you missed my point slightly, which is because we are Manchester United the price becomes inflated because other clubs know we spend silly money.

If you took away out interest like it never happened, and other clubs were sniffing around, I don’t think the price would be as high.

Wazza, that has been true for the last 15 years or more. Clubs know Utd have the money, so they up their price, and they know we can't just drop interest and go for a second choice, because the second choice will have their price inflated too.

Thorne, I know, that is what I’m saying.
