SSN Reporting that we've made a 70m bid for Maguire.

Personally I don't rate him. At Leicester he isn't under scrutiny like he would be at a bigger club.

Also I don't think he suits Lindelof as a CB pairing.

Yeah the rumours are gathering pace.

There was no scrutiny in the World Cup either MH was there? I think he has more than proved he can cope with the pressure, it would be an expensive move but one that would improve us massively at the back. That being said, there are a few other options out there that I wouldn't mind so if he went to City I wouldn't be too fussed as long as we got somebody else.

He is an upgrade on Smalling, Jones, Rojo and Bailly.
The midfielders can play higher up the pitch if a player like him can bring the ball out of defence.
But the 70m quoted price is insane.

Tbf England played absolute dross throughout in the world cup until they came across Croatia, having said that, I like Maguire, think I'd prefer Dias but would welcome Maguire and actually think he, lindelof could work well.

Pure fantasy football now, as I’ve got no idea how transfers work in reality, with all extras etc but just supposing.

Out: (approx figures lol! )

Pogba £120m

Lukaku £65m

Total: £185m

In:

Bruno Fernandes £50m

Sean Longstaff £25m

Sebastian Haller/ Ben Yedder £30m

Too CB (Maguire, Kiulibally) Millenkovic or cheaper West Ham kid, approx £70m

Total out £17m

Would t. E bad business I reckon plus change for wham bars all round!

GDS2,

He had a good World Cup but so did Pickford. I'd like us to sign a CB, a more agile, technical, athletic CB, like Rio was.

We kept 7 clean sheets in 38 league games last season. 7!

We are currently in a situation where we are desperate to improve this defence and in Maguire we will get a proven PL CB who is now hitting his prime years.

Mad hatter pickford is actually a good keep. Good shot stopper and is a decent guy it's his concentration that let's him down but he's still only young.

We MUST walk away from any deal for Maguire. I feel there is better out there for a lot less money. Short term Alderweireld would be a steal and immediately improve us. One other alongside Alderweireld but I believe Maguire would be a very expensive mistake.

I think that we need two top quality centre backs. Lindelof is our only pretty decent centre back but I feel that we need more than that. Both Alderweireld and Maguire would be very welcome.

I think he is a decent player but £70m is totally too much for him (LCFC have rejected bid anyway I hear) . I believe there are far better players out there for that money and that's where we should now look. If City are after him as well as the papers believe then fair one, let them overpay for him.

If they’ve rejected £70m walk away.

I’d like us to sign Toby if he’s gettable. It would be short term but we need a fix now.

Then we can look at someone like Dias in a couple of years when he’s developed further.

The problem is we're running out of options. Koulibaly is too highly priced. Ed's said there's interest in Dias from elsewhere. Manolas has just moved.

Maguire wouldn't necessarily be my first choice either but he wouldn't need time to adapt to the pace of the league and I think that's really important. We need to come flying out the traps an hit the ground running. We can allow for 1-2 players to settle but not 4-5 which is why I think we're targeting British players.

Milenkovic, Diop, Dias are still available.

16.) 02 Jul 2019
02 Jul 2019 14:36:49
I totally agree Mort, the thing about the Maguire deal is our first offer is 70m so the chances are we may go back in higher. I would hope that we do the same thing and offer 70m for Koulibaily and then maybe see if Napoli are open to discussion after splashing out 32m on Manolas.

Personally i'd go for Toby. Experienced. No settling issues. Cheaper option.

02 Jul 2019 19:48:35
If we could get Toby for 25 and Diop for 50 then that would be a lot better way to spend £75m and would mean good bye to 3/ 4 defenders if we can sell them too and give us a much better pool of CB’s.

Toby might want to stay or go on a free to juve next season or mnadrid.
