Rumour has it that Matic has had his contact extended until 2023.

Surprised about that. He's been great since Christmas but is a player who's legs have gone somewhat and he can't last a whole season on form.

If true it's another example of poor decision making by the club. He is 31. Another years extension come November/ December time would have been the right time to make that decision.

Maybe the club think he can play the odd game till he is 34 like Carrick did. Plus he may be a proper professional who has a good influence on the younger members of the squad and in the dressing room - not many of them to go around. I think Matic may have something to contribute for the next few years and with all the ins and outs, some consistency may be valuable. If he can play 10-15 games in the 22-23 season and help get the replacement in place- someone like Declan rice or Ruben neves or Ndidi will do nicely.

I wouldn’t be against it, seems a professional and someone who having criticised ole has since given his fair due. Long as he realises he slowly be playing less and less. Fred and mctominay are neither that holding mid, perhaps they think he could mould one of them?

Hes a very good pro and is definitely still a good player and as long as it doesn't effect us in signing a dm in 2 years then i'm happy that he has extended this deal.

I think people's opinions on Matic getting a new three year deal would have been very different had this been announced in November.

I think people had a different view on ole in November. Things change as form changes.

I think similar to other clubs there is a realisation that money is tight and you can't just throw money at all of the problems. Ideally we would bring in a new DM this year but likely that is not our priority position. Matic has probably proved since the return that he is the best fit alongside Pogba should he stay so I am okay with this.
If he brings McTominey or youngster on to replace him in the next couple of years then great or we will likely look at a new DM next year to share the load.

Leggy or not, he is still miles ahead of any of our CM options.

Class act.
