With our beloved Carrick due to leave at the end of the season, will he be offered a new contract? Will we promote within? Or will we go out and spend on someone like Ruben Neves?

Thoughts anyone?

Cheers, Ronnie.

I'm not very good on %'s but I'm certain our win rate is a lot better when he is playing!

Hopefully there's a plan.

Ronnie you'd love my midfield on football manager. Neves tielemans deulofeu and tello. Shame its a game and its Milan.

Maybe if you focused less on young players and more on Celtic, you wouldn't be close to getting the sack Ronnie.

Talks of Carrick getting a new deal in the summer. But, also talks of Andre Gomes coming in along with Mourinho. So who knows.

I think Carricks main issue is being injury prone. The less injury prone players we have, the better were off. I'd seek Jones in the summer. Carrick has been a really good player but as he's approaching his 35th birthday in the summer and spends more time on the physiology bench then on the pitch I'd let him go or perhaps offer him a pay as you play deal.

I think Blind would slot in nicely. He's good on the ball and pick out a pass. He maybe marmite for some on here, but his attitude is united through and through.

I don't think Blind's passing is anywhere near good enough to play that role, and his positioning is sometimes suspect. His attitude is great but he's a squad player - no more.

Carrick himself looks lost nowadays if the opposition have pace in midfield - he kind of reminds me of Scholes in his final two years. Against the right opposition, he can still run the game, but he can be a liability in other games.

For me, I still see central midfield as Herrera plus one moving forward - it's just finding the one.

Potentially it will come down to who the manager is. If it is LVG then he likes a, certain type of player in the holding role.
If it is Mourinho he likes a different sort, bigger and more combative. Could be Schneiderlin adapts into that role similar to Matic.
A lot depends on who the manager is for a lot of players. Hopefully day 1 of the summer we wI'll know one way or another to give the guy a full summer to get what he wants.

Mort,

Too true, Tielemans and Neves would be awesome!

No.7

I am also a big fan of Andre Gomes, watched him many a time and thought "I wish he was at Utd"!

Would be a massive addition to the squad!

Mind you any of the three would be good?

Cheers, Ronnie.

Ronnie, I think a number of things need to happen to improve this squad. Andre Gomes would certainly be a good start. We need a new right sided player, I'd go for Sané. I'd also take a look at Geis from Schalke, an absolute gem of a player, reminds me of Kroos. Stones at centre back is a priority. I'd also throw money at Spurs for Kane. I think with those 3/ 4 additions we would be of the desired domestic and European quality, for a good few years too.

If there was one midfielder for us to sign it absolutely has to be Marco Verratti.

A midfield with Schneiderlin and Verratti with Herrera or Rooney ahead of them would be amazing and one of the best in the world.

For me Verratti will he a better player than Pogba, Tielemans or any other midfielder under the age of 25 you care to mention.

The closet player I've seen to Scholes who probably only has been bettered by Zidane in the last 20 years.

If only Carrick as good as Scholes is now, alas he is not. And Scholes retired years ago.

I think your praise of Verratti is a little over the top. Good player, not great.

No.7, you should watch him more often. Strong in the tackle, wonderful technique, great understanding and reading of the game, vison, passing. The only thing he needs to improve on is his shooting.

Apparently Ancelotti want's him at Bayern and tried to get him while at Real as he rates him as the best young midfielder in the world.

He has Pirlo's ability to control a game through technique and intelligence but with Gattuso's drive and tenacious nature.
