Morning All

I appreciate some will read too much into beating a poor LA side, however, it is good to see Rashford scoring. He is at an age where he needs to take the step up physically and mentally this season if he truly wishes to be a top player. It looks like he is working on his physique and we will find out on the mental side as the season progresses, especially if our player goal scoring options are limited and pressure is on him

The midfield role is interesting, always felt TFM has potential there. The blend is important rather than the biggest name but quality is needed.

I believe Lukaku is a good signing but am I alone in feeling we are still light on potential goals from forward players? There is a lot of focus on Lukaku and Rashford whilst Martial, undoubtedly talented, had a lean season last time out. I believe we need to fill the number 7 shirt with a Bale or Sanchez if we seriously want to challenge the top of the league. At the moment the addition of Perisic doesn't add enough for me.

The player filling the No7 shirt will define our season and I would be disappointed if Perisic is seen as the answer.

I agree with that summing up redman and I would love to see a bale or Sanchez wearing the number 7 shirt . We were a mile behind Chelsea last year but with our additions we are man for man a pretty similar level to them now apart from the fact they have hazard but that makes a huge difference hence in two of the last 3 seasons they were so dominant when he played well and a poor season the one he didn't. A bale / Sanchez type would give us our own version and a match for them having hazard. No clue if we offered enough if we could pull it off but seems perisic interests us more at min.

{Ed004's Note - But is it time for one of Martial, Rashford or Mkhitaryan to step up and be that difference maker this season?}

Ed04 I would agree with that it's not always about signing mega names.

{Ed004's Note - It really does depend on the way we play as a team. If Jose intends to play the formation he played last night I can understand why he wants Perisic as he will be a massive upgrade on Lingard. Sometimes it's not just about signing star players. Perisic would fit in perfectly were Lingard played, Dier/Matic would be good signings for that central cb spot with license to move into midfield and Aurier would be brilliant competition for an ageing Valencia. I'm not sure we have the space for another attacker although it would be hard to say no to Ousmane dembele, Griezmann, Bale, Sanchez etc type player}

Personally ed I think it is. All 3 can have just as much impact at United as Sanchez at Arsenal if they fulfil the potential talent that they have. Miki has already shown what he can do but he needs to do it consistently at his age now. I'd rather give them a chance this season than spend another £60m on Sanchez. Let's get a quality CM, Winger and RB and see how the rest do this season.

{Ed004's Note - Was really impressed with both Rashford and Mkhitaryan last night while Martial showed glimpses (at least he was putting the effort in). If we play 3 up top we currently have a lot of options and sometimes continuity is the best way to win things and I can't see any of our players wanting to sit on the bench the vast majority of the season}

We are Perisic is coming and he will be greta for us.

Agreed ed, Aurier, Matic/ Dier and Perisic, although not people's fantasy football signings, would give us a very strong, well balanced group of players. More than capable of winning the PL if they perform as they can.

So you think Aurier or Valencia for the RWB slot then Ed? Maybe Jose is trying this formation out as he may switch to it during games if needed perhaps.

{Ed004's Note - Well both can play rb or rwb so it gives Jose options. Would have preferred Semedo however, Aurier fits in with all the other strong and powerful players we have signed so far under Mourinho}

The DM will also allow Herrera and Pogba to get forward more, as demonstrated last night: with perisic constantly putting crosses in, Martial, miki and Rashford attaching also, should create a lot more chances. Would like to see Rashford given chance to put them away though.

{Ed004's Note - I think CDM is going to be our most important signing this summer (bar Lukaku signing) because it'll be needed to give fullbacks opportunities to get forward, protection for cb and allow more freedom for Pogba and Herrera}

every team needs a greta x-files. i think we have two styles in the team, one that can pass, link up well and move up the pitch with speed in counter attack and another which relies on our aerial ability, jose used Feliani to great affect last year, and while it wasn't pretty you play to your strengths, i think Lukaku and Feliani will terryify most defenders as a duo, but i also see Rashford, mhiki, martial, mata and Pereira, to an extent, being equally terrifying.

{Ed004's Note - And then you have players like Valencia, Bailly and Pogba etc that suit both styles - excellent technically as well as being extremely strong and athletic}

Red Man, I agree with you, we have lost Ibra's goals and gained Lukaku's goals so not a lot of difference in the goals dept.
I'm hoping that one of the following happen if we are to make a serious title challenge;
a) Playing Lukaku allows us to play with more pace, which will result in more goals as we won't allow the opposition to get everyone behind the ball when we attack.
b) Collectively we see more goals from Rashford, Martial, Pogba, Mikki etc.
c) We sign a player that allows us to change formation, giving Pogba and Mikki etc more freedom to be influential in the final 3rd.
d) We sign a Sanchez like player, the downside is this would most likely limit both Rashford and Martial's playing time.
At the moment I'm not sure where the extra goals required to be serious challengers are going to come from.
We have plenty of time left in the transfer window and have no doubts that Jose will have a solution in mind, after all he regularly said last year about our lack of goals.
