A new season is upon us and it is safe to say, we are all excited and optimistic and hopeful that we can win the trophy that matters most, the Premier League. No reason why we can't and especially if we can add a winger and left back to our ranks.
I am posting with regards an article I read today about the atmosphere at Old Trafford. The article rightly states that the ground is quiet though large parts of the home games. It seems that a small group of fans have met with the official at OT to address this issue. But the article states that the officials do not understand the nuances of the average football fan, the need to go to watch our team and generate as much noise as we can to become the 12th man.
In the early 70's, when United were playing the worst football I've seen them play, we used to generate three times more noise than we do now. I think success sometimes makes us all a bit complacent. I think the club needs to address this issue immediately and return the atmosphere to what it was in the old days. I stand in the singing stand, and no one shuts up for 90 mins.
I particularly dislike our announcer, who in my opinion should've been replaced years ago. We all start singing just before the teams come out, then as they do, the music is played at ridiculus levels and drowns the noise of the crowd, then the worst thing happens, they stop the music, by which time the crowd had stopped singing as they can't hear themselves and the stadium is quiet just as kick off is about to happen. The most ludicrous bit of how kill an atmosphere. So let's hope the club can listen to its fans, and let's hope we make a noise in all the matches to help the team in the times they need us.
good luck to all players and to our management and let's hope we are lifting the PL trophy come May.

SchMidfield. I think one of the issues is that going to Watch Manchester United is now a big family day out and also a tourist attraction. On matchdays the ground is full of young families that want to enjoy the atmosphere, but won't necessarily create it.

Agreed Cumbria. It's such a shame to see the ground so quiet in most matches. We can help the team so much.
I love the way they do things at B. Dortmund. The announcers really get the crowd going. The clown we've got at OT is useless.
The atmosphere for the big matches is so good. The small teams come to OT these days and settle so quickly and before you know it, we're struggling to score. If the crowd get at them early doors, then the visiting team will get nervous.
I hope the club can sort things out.

I think the crowd responds to good football, and this past few seasons we haven't witnessed it at OT. On its day it's the best atmosphere in the country. People always say how the atmosphere at Anfield is good, but if you watch, they sing before kick off, then it's mostly silent.

{Ed007's Note - On it's day? 20 years ago maybe but OT is nowhere near the best atmosphere in the country, Crystal Palace put most EPL clubs to shame for a start.}
