Transfer fees are now completely out of control. £45M for Sigurdsson, over £50M for Kyle Walker and now Leicester want £40M for Drinkwater, to name just a few.

Given what we are seeing we have done well to nail down the 3 we have bought even if 2 of the prices were high. However, Lukaku is a proven EPL goal scorer and we have all see the class of Matic.

My issue is the ridiculous prices being paid for 'run of the mill' players. Andre Gray went to Watford for over £18M and Leeds are allegedly asking for £20M for Chris Wood for whom the phrase run of the mill is something of a compliment. I'm start no to understand why some fans are turning to non-league and going back to basics, the money being splashed about today is sickening. That is all.

Tony I agree with this post to an extent. I hate transfer fees with a real passion. I would rather see player trades and draft picks any day of the week than let the elite buy more to keep the little guy down.

Essentially the 1million pound player has become the 20million pound player overnight but let's not forget United have had a big part to play in this.

The more money in the game, the bigger the transfer fees. Lukaku cost us about 13.6% of our annual turnover. Vernon was apparently 20%+, Ferdinand and Pogba just under 20%, Rooney 16.5%. Zidane was 54% of RM's income in 2001, which is a good deal more than PSG are paying for Neymar, at closer to 40%. Tevez was 52% of City's. C. Ronaldo to RM was 23%. It sounds ridiculous perhaps, but the ratios don't seem to have changed much.

I agree with a lot of what both of you are saying AJH and maze. I don't know what the answer is but something has to change. I would like to see a situation whereby no player can register for his new team until the fee has been paid in full this would reduce fees substantially and that no olayer can move club unless he pays up the remainder of his contract to the selling club or no entitlement to any pay off or signing on fee. Sounds ridicules i know but something radical has to be done.
Also perhaos a ' football tax' could be introduced with all clubs having to pay 20% of any fee to the fa to be distributed to lower league and grass roots football.

It's business. Players will go for what clubs are willing to pay. Clubs will pay what they can afford to pay or risk going out of business. Customers fuel what clubs can afford to pay. Technology has empowered a global industry and the game will move further away from its pre-technology traditions further still. Don't like it? Don't be a customer. Simple.

Football is a bubble waiting to burst, when it pops we the fans will be better off for it. Cheaper shirts, tickets, cheaper TV. Whilst the figures rise in football for transfers and salaries. We pick up the bill, people aren't going to allow themselves to be screwed over forever it's enevitable people will be priced away from the sport.

I don't understand why people keep moaning about transfer prices, it is basic economics, the new tv deal means every club has more money and when everyone has more money then prices increase, that's how the world works, not just with transfer fees but with every single thing in the world. You have a problem with that you need to find yourself a new planet and a new species to deal with.
