So Jm extended contract till 2020 with another year option- shows a commitment to the club and hopefully stability- love him or hate him its got to be good news that we won't be having managerial upheaval shortly (fingers crossed)

Good news if he does the job. I see the benefits but I remain to be convinced by him, I would still liked to have seen us wait until the end of the season.

Christmas wasn't that long ago and we were awful during that period. A few decent results and major signing and that all seems forgotten. I don't want to put a downer on it, but it isn't all good news based on what has happened before, it's just wishful thinking that makes it a good move for us fans. Obviously it does stop rumours etc until the next dip and petulance display.

The club tried a long term deal,6 years with Moyes, likely to try to convince players and it didn’t work.

This, however, is a good move, long enough to make everyone including the players, aware the club trusts him but not too long. However even though the negative fans want to slant this, yet it is a good move, it gives stability, we have the best chance to get where we want since SAF left. I feel a sense of confidence seeping through the club for the first time in years

I sense Jose has found where he has a challenge, a project and has warmed to it. People seem to think there was a meltdown at Chelsea yet miss it is a club that doesn’t support its managers. A managers authority needs to be supported because if it isn’t you get chaos and now it is happening again at Chelsea. SAF didn’t manage through being nice to everyone or being popular he did it by being a leader and earned that support which became unwavering, Jose hasn’t had that level of support in previous roles, let’s see how he does now he has more than he has had before. I am confident.

Dangerous to be criticizing the great JM James, especially after some career defining results against Derby, Burnley and Stoke recently. How quickly our fans forget the negative antics against better opposition and how difficult to watch a great many of our games have been - half the people on here were getting very worried about Jose just a few weeks ago.

The second he goes it will be all guns blazing, like with LVG, but for the time being the chequebook has been opened (AGAIN) and all is right with the world. That's why I want to wait and see, we have parked the bus against the top teams and have put on turgid displays against the weak teams (for the most part), but to most of our fans that justifies extending his contract now, how desperate we have become! Rewards handed out for average, is not what makes for a happy future, the carrot and carrot approach has served us so well for the past 5-6 years, may as well keep doing it!

Or, we have been the best of the rest in a league where City have set a new benchmark.

Jose has been frustrated because his front 4 have been hit and miss (understandable given age) and now Sanchez will hopefully add a cutting edge and more importantly consistency to a very promising young attack.

Soak up the optimism Beast, the tide's a changing!

Red Man, I think we are making progress and I’m pleased any uncertainty has been removed but to suggest there wasn’t a major issue at Chelsea is a bit of a stretch. Quite simply the players stoped laying for him, or at least a lot of them did. The slide and then miraculous r covers after he left tells us an awful lot. We can only hope he learnt from whatever happened and it does seem we have a very happy camp right now.

AJH

If you let the players run the club and by all accounts some at Chelsea were allowed to run moaning to the owner it will not end well. Can you imagine any players going over SAF’s head? No. If the manager is undermined it will fall apart and that goes for any manager.

It looks like it has started to happen again at Chelsea, maybe there was more to it than Mourinho.

Perhaps it’s the owner who wants to get involved in “everything” that’s why it happened like it happened at Chelsea? So it’s a blessing in disguise when we have the Glazers not too many involved in the day to day running? It’s more professional like an American corporation than a private Russian local company 🤣🤣
Just my humble analysis.

Personally Beast it is the fact that he has turned round a slide to Liverpool style mediocrity whilst challenging for and winning titles. Is the football beautiful- mostly no but we're getting better, his signings have improved us and suddenly everyone is venting bile at us instead of laughing. In short Jose has made us relevent again.

I think we are somewhere in the middle between redman’s and breasts view. I think the new contract is a very shrewd and necessary step as it provides us stability for the first time since Sir Alex left. Now yes we have not played the most beautiful brand of football but it is clear to everyone in the football world that we have improved hugely in the last 18 months. We are attracting world class players such as Sanchez that would have only been a pipe dream 2 years ago. We are city’s closest challengers and and we have that good feeling back which I haven’t felt in years. We were in real danger of slipping into a Liverpool lull where we would have slipped into obscurity and mediocrity. And Jose deserves praise for stopping the rot and therefore has been awarded a new contract. For all our success and money we have spent since the Fergie years, our squad was terrible and unbalanced and Jose has worked to fix this. There is no other manager in world football that would have been able to turn us around as fast and efficiently as Jose has. He does not get the credit for improving players such as Lingard, martial, Jones and even smalling and young. Shaw is starting to show the potential we know he has. The football has not always been pretty but I’d much rather be in the situation that we are in now than say spurs, Liverpool or arsenal who are below us.

In short, Jose has done very well to get us to where we are and deserves a new contract. He looks happy the last month and it’s great to see. Football style must improve and I think it will so let’s just be patient and let Jose see out his contract. The club looks professional and organised for the first time in ages and that is great to see.
