Based on last night’s chat it looks like it’s Rashford’s turn to get some stick with some posters saying we should sell him and someone suggested that his breakthrough season was just luck. He’s not playing great right now but the kid turned 20 in October. He’s the youngest first team player and he’s bound to have highs and lows. He needs nurturing and coaching, the talent is there, he just needs to show it and be consistent. Talking of selling him is completely ridiculous.

{Ed001's Note - seriously? The lad showed some really nice flashes of ability last night. He just looks like what he is, an inexperienced kid going through a tough spell. They all go through it at some point. Better he does it now, as he will learn a lot from it.}

The fact is that is high was season 1 and has been low every season since. He needs to start delivering. Like Martial is.

{Ed001's Note - and if you had got your way on this kind of nonsense thinking, Lingard would have been sold long ago.}

Surprise surprise Shan. I know you don’t rate him and I respect that. I actually don’t agree that Martial is as fantastic as most seem to think or that Blind is as poor. Each to their own I guess.

My issue is that we have a history of bringing players through and not everyone is a Giggs who looks top class from day 1. He is 2 years younger than Martial, 4 years younger than Jesse, and 5 younger than Pogba. He’s home grown, a great lad by all accounts and yet we have fans who demand he is a superstar and whinge when his form slips. Let’s remember how woeful Martial was early doors, he has knuckled down and is starting to show some form, we need Rash to do that but we don’t need to heap criticism on him.

Right Ed. The same nonsense thinking that made superstars like Cleverley, Macheda, Welbeck et al. The fact is the class of 92 was the last. I don't have the romance of him being a local lad and all that. For all i care he could be from Saudi, he needs to perform which he hasn't been doing for a while.

On Rashford i am not saying sell him. But treat him like Lingard then. Loan him where he can play week in week out and let's see if has the mental strength to utilize the talent he posseses. let's be honest here, he is behind Lukaku, Martial, Sanchez and even Zlatan in the United ranks. A loan would do him no harm.

{Ed001's Note - Martial? I don't see it at all, he is an awful winger and an ok striker. Could be in the future a very good striker, but he is never going to make a winger until he learns close control.}

ah now, it's not as if you'll ever win anything with kids, that's been dealt with long ago. How dare jose defy the pundits by giving Youth a chance! Even if he is an england international and has three major cup winners medals, time to send him back to the reserves.

I think Rashford is a gem. Pace, power, dribbling ability and can hit a shot from anywhere. Decision making comes from maturity. Saying that he has that selfish streak all strikers need. He has the balls to shoot instead of passing. Not phased by the occasion or big name team mates. I like that.

Too many times our fans want to get rid of players for a big transfer fee or big name. Rashford is easily worth 50 mill in this crazy market. I still wouldn't take it tho.

Everyone on tv making a big deal lf where he will play etc now we have Sanchez. He will play enough games through the season. Jose likes to rotate and keep things fresh. The boy will come good, just like DDG did. Get behind the lad. He could be a key player in the summer for England too.

I thought he did well for the goal. A lot of strikers would have fluffed that. He's an intelligent player, mentally seems strong and has the physical attributes. He still young, on the inexperienced side and his decisions can be off. But that comes with experience. Which he's getting. And he's got players like Sanchez and Zlatan to learn off. Some fans just have no patience.

Are these guys calling for Rashford's head for real? The boy is 20 years old. He has pace and skill to burn. He's learning his trade in the most difficult league in the most difficult position.
So let's hear ridiculous argument and put him up on the transfer list. I can guarantee that City, Chelsea, arsenal, Real and Barcelona will all be fighting to buy him. Make no mistake, we have a seriously talented centre forward here and they don't come along very often. Give him a chance for God's sake and stop this nonsense about loaning or selling him. It's utter tripe.

Not mentioning names but strongly disagree with any suggestions of us selling Rashford. Madness.

It will be interesting to see how they react.
At this moment jessie lukaku and sanchez are probably certain starters. Martial rash and mata are fighting it out for the last spot. But things change very quickly. An injury or if one of them goes on a hot streak they will become a certain starter. Lukaku can get a bit more rest for games. Sanchez because of his versatility adaptability and experience provides lots of options.
At first I thought mata would lose out but I'm not sure that will be the case.
Seater called it last night. Martial and rashford have got to embrace the challenge. Roll up their sleeves and prove that they are worthy of a starting jersey.
In a 60 game season none of them would start more than 40 games usually so that's 40 starts for 6 different player's there is lots of football to be had. Add periera and potentially gomes into the squad it looks good for forwards.

Rashford has 10 goals this season imagine he played the striker roll and started every game we would be talking at least 20 goals no doubt.

All those records for debut goals suggest to me that his temperament is perfect for top-level football. You don't fluke a good season in the EPL. One of the few players at Utd that I hear fans of other clubs saying they really rate, and would love at their club.

Has martial scored in his last 3 or 4 games?
Pogba martial matic etc not even included against Yeovil.
Ready for spurs.

I'd say consistent close control ed. Because he has fantastic close control, just has to do it more often.

{Ed001's Note - I would disagree, he knocks it too far away, but he has pace so it doesn't look as bad as he is on it so quickly.}

14.) 27 Jan 2018
27 Jan 2018 13:21:32
Martial and rash both have 11 goals so far this season could both end up with 20 by the end of the season
Would be a decent amount for a wide player.

Rashford has a real talent and is blessed with blistering pace. He took a huge step last year and seems to have lost a bit of confidence early this season, I think it then affected his on field decision making. It may have happened because there is a psychological change from the talented young newcomer where there is no pressure, everything you see of them is done instinctively and little thought goes into it. Then they move to being a senior player where the pressure is on them to perform. I sense Rashford may have suddenly felt that pressure and is adapting to it. It isn’t a switch that is easy but our coaches will work with him and whilst there is no guarantee, with that talent he should come through it, then we will have a hell of a player.

There is no guarantee of young players achieving the level their talent deserves, look no further than Ravel Morrison but at this time, we should be absolutely 100% supportive of a young very talented footballer like Rashford who also loves the club. Utter and complete nonsense about selling such a talent as a Rashford, who symbolises what Utd aspire to, deserves nothing but derision and scorn.

Maybe we are seeing 2 different things then ed. I know what you are saying, I'd like him to be more consistent, maybe he does mask it well with his pace but I have seen him on numerous occasions, especially when in the box, go passed players with incredible tight control. Pace doesn't come into there for me. But he doesn't do it often enough, because he can.

{Ed001's Note - it is about acceleration that he does that in the box, it was the same thing that allowed Fernando Torres to be so good until his knee injuries destroyed it. Martial's strength for me is his finishing, added to the pace and acceleration he possesses they make him a dangerous striker. He is not a winger at all though.}

Martial can play as a sort of inside forward in old fashioned speak, but is never a winger .
His best position is as a striker.

I see it ed, honestly but there have been occasions where he has showed he close control and skill with ball at feet. I think he is a C. F. not a winger either. but not sure Jose will utilise him there. Yes great finisher. I agree with jred, inside forward. If used as a LW, he will not play hogging the line but on the inside.

{Ed001's Note - but that is the point, it is flashes, I have seen non-league players show flashes of close control, that does not mean it is a strength of their game.}
