I think our team miss a player in Roy Keane mould, a Vidic, a Ferdinand. We are missing the passion that these would have brought to the team. I remember games when Roy single handedly dragged the team to victory. If a tackle has to be made, he would be there, if a loose ball demands attacking, Roy would do it. He always lead by examole. May be that's why he was feared as well as respected within the team.

We miss a player in his mould, so my question to fellow posters is, who would you see most resembling Roy in today's game. In attitude as well as in terms of quality.

Agreed programmer. Can’t think of many players that fit the mould but red79 is spot on. Vidal would be that sort of player.

Question - was Zlatan that voice on the pitch last year? We seriously lack a leader and although he isn’t good enough to play for us now, Zlatan was definitely a player who dragged us through tough matches. The efl cup springs to mind.

I agree Shappy but the OP stated, "most resembling", not identical. I googled Nainggolan to check the spelling and a picture of him came up which very nearly precipitated a change of underwear. He's scary that man. Not as scary as Keane mind.

Certainly, Cantona kicked an arrogant fan, Roy used to give it back to Viera every now and then. I also can't think of any player in Keane's mould.

I agree with mbd that SAF used to instill that drive and passion in players which is now nowhere to be found. But then SAF also had an eye for such players.

I wish he gets to management again. ;)

Radja Nianggolan, Hamsik they have that edge according to me.

There are few if any players at the top of the game who have that aggressive dominant streak. In modern society there is a very very very fine line between being a vocal motivator and an aggressive bully.

That plays a massive part in modern football. Vinnie Jones was saying the other day he went into the Liverpool dressing room as a guest of Gerrard's before he retired. He said there was no atmosphere, no banter, nothing. Just a bunch of blokes with their headphones in staring at a phone screen.

You can only shout aggressively at a teammate if you have a certain kind of relationship with them without it being considered bullying.

I don't think many players within a team have that kind of relationship anymore. As such we as fans no longer see it happening on the pitch.

In my opinion if we are to be a success in the future we have to accept how the world is now, embrace it and grow and adapt to it.

I see too many posts recently where people keep hankering for how things used to be. Reality check here people Liverpool have spent nearly 30 years in the footballing wilderness chasing how things used to be rather than embracing how things are now.

Never in human history has progress been made by looking backwards.

I think Sanchez is that kind of fella, very vocal and demands the best. Think next season he will be our most important player.
