Alleged £55m bid submitted for Alderweireld. Levy has responded by saying he wants more. what's everyone's thoughts? Would you pay more than £55m for a 29 year old defender.

No. Not really, due to his fee goes down to £25m next season.

In todays climate, 55 mil for toby is a steal IMO.

No and never esp when we already have 5 centre backs 6 if you throw in tuanzebe. Also don't want to spend all summer negotiating with levy. We have made an offer, he has said no, time to move on .
Someone to play wide right a bigger priority imo.

Toby wpuld be a very good signing for us. We would have 3 definite CBs in bailly, lindelof and toby.

The other CBs, have served us well BUT tbey are not the level we need to progress in the CL for example.

Those claims are now backed up by Belgian paper Het Laatste which suggests a €79.8million deal could be tied up in the coming days.

A clause in Alderweireld’s deal allows him to leave for just £25m next summer, but Mourinho’s determination to land the player and partner him up with Eric Bailly will see the move go ahead imminently.

Thats a report in belgian media today.

If Andy Carrol got sold for 35 mil and Bonnuci for 42 mil then Toby for 50 or 60 mil is a steal in todays inflated market.

If we ge three really good years out of him and he helps make us defensively sound and allows the midfield and attacking players to flourish then it is money well spent. That said I am hesitant about spending that sort of money on a 29 yr old going on 30 Yr old. I would worry that he will have enough pace to keep up with the lightning quick attackers of eg City and Liverpool. I would rather we gave our younger players like Tuanzabe a go first and also Fosu Mensah. If they are not good enough get a top rated 25 or 26 year old.

Anything over 55m is way too much. But then Toby for me is the best cb in the league. He is the sort of experienced head at the back we need. People will point to his injury record but up until this season he has rarely been injured. He was fit for the business end of last season but wasn’t played due to not signing a new contract. Let’s hope we can get it done.

He is one of the best CBs in the Prem, in the conversation of the best. We are Tottengam's rivals, we will have to overpay to get him.

He could well be the missing piece of the jigsaw at the back, someone to build the defense around. A player with experience who is a leader.

If Jose has made him number one priority, get it done Woody!

Thats ridiculous money for a 29yr old. Sorry, i would not want us to get involved at those sort of prices.
And if levy wants martial, then ee should quote him £150m.

Could do with recouping some money off rojo, blind etc.

don’t most centre halves come into their prime around 28/ 29 years of age, a little wiser and assured. vida and rio were formidable at that age and bruce and pallister were 35 and 33 before they left us, berg and stam were 29 and 27 when we won the treble.

Paersonally im not at all worried of his cost. Its not my money. i bought numerous united jerseys over the years. i've been to games. I watch the adverts . i've contributed my hard earned shillings. im a consumer of uniteds memorabilia. If this guy gets four years of good defending (minimal cards, injuries, politics off field etc) its modern costs which will be covered by a sleeve or training jersey deal - or a far east or american tour. My money pays for mortgage, schools, petrol like us all regular joes. after that i want united to come back to dominance.
