Just my view on whether we should or should not sign Ronaldo. When the news first broke about Juve’s interest I fully believed we would go in and finally bring him back. I was very excited at the prospect of seeing him back in a united shirt. But now that I’ve had a few days to digest the information and think about whether or how it could work, I’m quite happy we haven’t gone in for him.

It’s very much a head v heart debate for me. My heart romanticises it and tells me that he will come back and win us league, which he may well do so because he’s a goal machine. But my head tells me that he would potentially disrupt the likes of Lukaku and that we would have to set up a certain way to accomadate and get the best out of him.

Jonny8 makes a great point down below that he would be a Keane like figure in the dressing room. His sheer will to win and his unbelievably high standards are something we do greatly lack on our dressing room. He always leads by example and he would inspire and push the youngsters to new heights. When I think about this I feel for 88m we must go in for him.

At the end of the day, if we were truly interested in him I think he would not think twice about rejoining us. However, there are far more pressing areas to fix (rw, lb) and so in some ways I’m quite pleased that we haven’t gone and spent a large amount of our budget on a player we perhaps do not necessarily need. If we do not end up signing a rw or lb and do not get Ronaldo either then I would be pretty disappointed. But I do feel that ship has sailed as fans such as myself should move on and wish him well.

Thanks Park.

The real question here is whether the players we have could actually be good enough if the realized their potential.
I think that’s a yes.
And then it is whether Ronaldo would be enough to straighten them out.

It could easily be money better spend if Shaw gets his act together and Pogba does then signing Sandro and Milinkovic-Savic.

Not saying that’s the case, just a point to consider.

And signing Ronaldo will boost our revenue stream mir then signing Sandro and Milinkovic-Savic.
That’s a big plus in Ed’s book and should be in ours as well if the result on the pitch is the same.
