My thoughts on the right wing:

I think it is overly simplistic to analyze Pogba by checking if he is a def min in a 4-2-3-1 or playing on the eft of a 4-3-3 (as a #8). He certainly looked quite happy to move to the right side for France and also play a defensive role.

Here is where the right wing comes in. For quite a few years now, we have not played with a genuine right winger, whose pace is a real threat down the flank. Both Mata and Lingard have lined up in that position but their natural game is to float around the pitch and play in between the lines. The downside of this is that when a back or midfielder wins the ball and wants to play direct, a ball in behind is never an option, and our play slows down.

If we have players with pace right across the front line, we will have options for the center mids to play passes in behind, or else the opposing backs will have to drop off and allow space in front of them. Sir Alex always set out his teams in that way.

And finally, players like Martial and Rashford ought to be able to learn to play RW. Give the width and be a threat for any balls played in behind the back line.

Great post mate. For me it’s an area that has been desperate need of addressing for a few seasons now. My preference would be to bring Lozano and Perisic in with Sanchez shifted to the number 10 behind Lukaku where he can be a true goal threat.

We've all been saying this for three years, in fact we don't have wingers full stop!
