Am I the only one who finds the timing strange?

Fellaini leaves and his wages are off the wage bill, and Martial signs a no doubt increasing his wages on the same day.

Just a coincidence or is there more to this?

Are the contract extensions of players being held up due to a bloated wage bill? Is it a case of having to balance the books? I wouldn't put it past Experience Woodward to be honest. If so it's worrying with the likes of DDG, Herrera and Rashford all being key players who need their contracts extending.

If we have maxed out our wages and it's gotten to the stage where we have to sell, in order to improve our better players contracts, then that is woefully short sighted considering the amount of players that are expiring.

We didn't spend much in the summer and we haven't spent anything in the January. Wage wise we might be nearly tapped out but in terms of money for transfers, we must be flush.

But as ed002 says, the money is not worth talying about.

I am disappointed we haven't strengthened in this window though.

I think you are right to an extent but i think wages being offered to players do not depend on players leaving the club.

The only thing odd about the timing shappy is that its 5 years too late in happening.

I did post before AM signed that fellani leaving frees up money to offer others

002 stated long ago that we were in FFP radar over wages.

Spot on again #002.

We need a good clear out. Too many sitting around on good wages contributing little.

We have one of the lowest wages to turnover ratio's among top European clubs, hard to believe we would be holding up contract extension for player sale.

{Ed002's Note - The ratio is irrelevant.}
