Ed001 I appreciate being a Liverpool fan it may be a difficult question to answer but what is your opinion on Van Dijk?

Personally I wasn't all that worried from what I saw at Southampton and Celtic, but he has improved the Liverpool defence no end. A lot of people are saying he's the best in the world - would you place him in that category?

{Ed001's Note - I would say as out and out defending no, he is not the best. However, as an overall package in the modern game, his pace, power, aerial prowess and quality on the ball puts him right up there as, at least, one of the best. The problem he had with Saints and Celtic was his tendency to stroll and lose concentration in matches. That has been absent this season and Liverpool have benefitted greatly, especially when he is next to Gomez. Having to talk the youngster through has kept him alert and at his best.}

I agree re the concentration. He also appears to have risen to the challenge of playing at a big club with big history. I think the partnership with Gomez looks good for the future - tbf the back 4 and keeper barring injuries looks to be pretty settled for a good few years.

VVD has been really good for LFC. His individual performance aren't the whole package, he has provided stability and consistency to Liverpool. I must admit I got it completely wrong with his transfer. I thought he wasn't that great at Southampton and I thought he was good because of the defensive structure and Fine at Southampton but now he is genuinely one of the best CV in the league and world.

{Ed002's Note - You seem to forget a little over a year ago he was on strike for getting involved in an illegal approach by Klopp. That puts a very significant blob on his CV.}

Who would you say is the best out and out defender in the world Ed001? I'd go for Godin (though slightly regressed this season)
