So rumours Dave has rejected our final contract becuase he wants 350k a week

Not being funny but if that's true and the club are not offering him another one then fair play.

Time and time again we have been shafted with players getting over payed.

Although he has been a great servant of the club and I would be gutted if he left but so but it. get some kind of profit on him and we move on.

If we get above 50m for him, it will be a good deal.
Invest in a keeper who can pass/ sweep like Ederson.
Personally, I would go for Jan Oblak.

Utd survived and even thrived after the departures of Keane, Becks, Cr7, Ruud, Schmeichel, van der sar, Robo et al, surely we will survive if DdG leaves. He has paid his dues, if he leaves in a respectable manner he will forever remain dear to the fans.

We have other areas of concern that need to be addressed before GK if De Gea goes. Romero is good enough to be number 1 for a season and then if required we can address the GK position again next summer. This gives Henderson a year of Prem football under his belt and a year for us to access other options.

Any money should be used to strengthen the positions where we require work now.

Which club is going to buy him this summer?

We are obviously not going to sell to an english club, Barcelona have ter stegen, real have courtois and navas, neuer at bayern etc.

The big clubs who do need a goalkeeper (juve and psg), would they really pay a fee (say £50m for arguments sake), for a keeper with exorbitant wage demands who they can get for a free in a year?

Club most likely will keep de gea this summer and let him go on a free in the summer if they can't agree terms. This allows us to target areas that need strengthening this window like defence and then buy a goalkeeper the following summer.

Let him go.

Romero and Henderson next season.

Henderson getting cups and Europa should be a good transition/ test to be the number 1.

Your seriously asking if PSG would spend money they didn't have to?

Can't really see United letting him leave on a free. Its different to Herrera because the club fumbled the ball an was late in offering a contract. If de Gea indeed has turned down the offer then they'll try and offload him. Might not get £50m but even £30m is better than £0.

Sometimes our supporters baffle me.

The club bolloxed up the wage structure by bringing in a host of players looking for a massive wage, and then shafted themselves by paying a ridiculous wage for a player just to get one over City.

If you were De Gea, the best player in a poor team, and a bit part player was being paid a record wage, what would you ask for in your contract negotiations?

I’m sure all the heroes on here would like to think they’d be happy to play for minimum wage, and that there’s no reason why players should look for more than £50,000 a week. But the world of football is all about money, and the players are entitled to look for as much money as they can get. The club are the ones who decided to break the wage structure to bring in Sanchez, and now they have to deal with the fallout. So it’s not ‘fair play’ to the club. The club made a massive mistake bringing in Sanchez on those wages, and are now going to lose the best player at the club because of it.

If he didn't have the form he's had for the past 15 months he'd be in a stronger position. He's a great shot stopper but weak in other areas. Improve the defence and midfield and don't concede as many chances on the edge of the area do we need a great shot stopper? Or would a good all rounder do as good of a job.

Woodward made a rod for his back but give in on this and everyone will be asking for the same.

I take the point Danny but surely it’s all about ego. Let’s assume we’ve offered him £200k a week, that’s £10M a year, probably for at least 3 years. How much money do you need? The Sanchez deal has put some noses out of joint but these guys do not live in the real world. DDG probably has more money than he will ever be able to spend. If he’s pining for home then fine, if he’s desperate for a new challenge then fine, if he’s sulking because of what Sanchez earns then not fine.

We’re not talking minimum wage here, we’re taking ludicrous amounts of money. I’m not picking on DDG, he just happens to be the subject of this thread.

Danny are you suggesting that the club compound previous errors and nake a bigger rod for their back.
A mistake was made (probably several) now its time to correct it not make it worse.

14.) 22 May 2019
22 May 2019 19:28:37
Well it is fair play Danny as you said we have been shafted because of high wages

Its about time the club actually stood firm and didn't give in to player and agents demands.

Especially when he hasn't played to a level to earn that kind of money.

15.) 22 May 2019
22 May 2019 19:48:34
De gea hasn't played to a level to deserve that money, same as sanchez? Is this the same David de gea I've been watching over the past 5 years.

They messed up, but correct it by getting rid of the high paid flops.

Good rumours do have some substance, but not from the rag that is the sun. That's just a load of crap.

16.) 22 May 2019
22 May 2019 20:16:25
Of course it's ludicrous money. But I never see people complaining about how many millions actors make for one movie. Like it or not, footballers are the talent, in an industry awash with money. I've no qualms with working class lads getting what they're worth. It can be a short career. Get as good a deal as they can. We all do it to a greater or lesser degree in our respective workplaces. I'd rather the money go to them, than agents and bureaucrats.

Of course, they have to be worth it in the first place. And DDG is, in my opinion.

17.) 22 May 2019
22 May 2019 20:29:26
The point of all this is that the money will either go to the players, or the shareholders. If every player took a pay cut, it wouldn’t result in any benefits for supporters, it would just mean more profit for the clubs.

Clubs are, year on year, posting record profits. Why shouldn’t players be looking for the highest wage they can get when they’re the reason that people watch football?

Players are called greedy for trying to maximise their wage. Clubs are called shrewd for trying to maximise their profits.

United have to do something about the wage bill, and De Gea is going to move because of this. But we shouldn’t be talking about the club standing up to greedy players. We should be talking about how mistake after mistake over the last few years has created a situation where the club can’t afford to keep its best player.

The sensible thing to do is make sure that players who have proven themselves year after year are the top earners at the club. Otherwise it leads to situations like this.

22 May 2019 20:41:37
I've no issue with whatever any player gets, that is for the clubs hierarchy to decide

I just want to see players in a United shirt who give it their absolute all. Couldn't give a hoot what they get paid. De Gea is well within his rights to look for more money or equal to what other players are getting at the club. He is more than deserving in my eyes.

You're only worth what someone is willing to pay.
