Another good article. I hadn't realised Setien had been released by Betis.
He will get some good offers.

{Ed001's Note - big mistake by Betis that.}

Honorable mentions;
Massimiliano Allegri (what he did with Juve),
Fernando Santos (Portugal winning the uefa League),
Ronald Koeman (reviving the dutch team),
Mauricio Pochettino (building a solid spurs team),
Erik ten Hag, (Incredible CL run by Ajax)
maybe even Djamel Belmadi (Algeria winning the Afcon)

{Ed001's Note - I have to be honest, only ten Hag out of them I even considered. Poch always fails when it matters, Koeman plays boring defensive football and has a terrible attitude which is why he flops at bigger clubs, international football is awful so Santos and Belmadi are not proving anything to me (even Southgate could reach a semi-final and he is terrible). Allegri took over the best team in Italy, had huge amounts of money to spent and stood still with Juve. Not sure you can really include him on that basis. You need to overachieve to be considered, not just achieve, imo.}

Insightful reply Ed. didn't know about Koeman's attitude, is it part of the reason he sort of flopped at Everton? I added him because the dutch have been getting some good results since missing out on the world Cup.
I also agree poch fails when it counts most, but do you think some one like Pellegrini would improve spurs, personally I don't think so.
But I do get why you have excluded national team coaches. Similarly why some coaches are wary of performances of players at international tournament as indicators to sign.

{Ed001's Note - yes mate, at Everton the manager is expected to be fully involved in the community work the club does. Koeman refused point blank to do any of it at all. Nothing.

I think Pellegrini would have won the title rather than Leicester if he had been in charge of Spurs. That would surely be an improvement over anything Poch has done?}

Thanks Ed, I feel better informed after this. Have a few dutch friends here who rave about Koeman, can't wait for the weekend to dish this out.

{Ed001's Note - he has done well in their league but that is not the highest of levels.}

Ed1 you said “ Poch always fails when it matters “
Yet you put Klopp down as the best manager yet he has a terrible record of failing. Losing so many finals before finally winning one against poch who in your words “always fails when it matters” so that’s not really a big achievement for klopp then is it? As you said at the start tho your probably biased.

{Ed001's Note - exactly. I am biased towards Klopp, but he has also proven himself a winner in the league in Germany, while Poch has never won a thing. The big achievement for Klopp was keeping that insane pace up in the Prem and still reaching the CL final. None of the rest could do both. Not City, nor Spurs.}

Where's Mark Hughes, ed?

{Ed001's Note - he was just below me on the list. Somewhere around the 6billion mark....}

I think you may have forgotten about his stint at QPR?

That would be an interesting one - worst managers of the premier league era to have managed a certain amount of games.

{Ed001's Note - that would be a tough one to pick them! There are plenty to choose from.}

That is very true ed1. As much as I dislike Liverpool it was impressive to keep that pace going till the end of the season.

{Ed001's Note - especially when the players were distracted by the Champions League. Those games against Barca could have easily killed league momentum.}
