Can those who are already so negative and writing us off to 6th place or lower please tell us why? Currently our first 11 looks something like.

DeGea
Wan bissaka - Maguire - Lindelof - Shaw
McTominay - Fred
Pogba
Rashford - Martial - James/ Sanchez

We currently have:
Romero covering DeGea. Dalot covering Wan Bissaka. Smalling, Tuanzebe, Bailly, Rojo, Fosu-Mensah and Jones covering CB. Young covering Shaw and Darmian who can cover both full back positions. Matic, Mata, Pereira and Lingard covering in midfield and just behind the forwards. Then Gomez, Chong and Greenwood as youngsters who will get a decent chance throughout the season I'm sure.

Now looking at the squads of Chelsea, Arsenal, Wolves, Leicester, Everton etc, none are better than what we have currently. If we could bring in another midfielder or forward tomorrow then that would make us even stronger of course, but as we are i don't see why there is so much negativity and drama. No we aren't perfect and are still a good few windows behind City and Liverpool, but people saying we are an injury to this player or that player away from 6th place or worse need to explain why this is any different to the other sides around us. Most of these teams have one or two very important players who if injured would affect the team hugely, so that is normal and can happen to any of the teams in the league, other than city really due to their strength in depth. That's football, and the team whose so called 'lesser' players stand up and be counted during difficult times will likely finish above the others. I believe our 'lesser' players are better than those of the other sides and so we should be better equipped to cope over a long season.

We have a happier looking squad. I have no doubt that they will be fitter. The football will be more attacking and the pressing will be better and all in all it will be an improvement over the last few seasons. It all adds up to being a better season than so many on here are predicting or wanting by the sounds of it.

Anyway, I've posted far too much in the last few days and its all getting a bit silly again, so i will retreat to the shadows once more. let's hope the negativity dies down once we win a few games and then people can get behind the boys. Top 4 and CL football next season, then a good summer window next year and who knows where we will be come May 2021.

I think we should make top4 but i also agree with the concerns of Ed and others. Rhere is a very good chance our attacking players. might not perform and we might struggle to score goals.

Its a massive season for. Martial and Rashford if Lukaku goes. It could very well be a career defining year for Rashy and Martial.

stopped reading after you wrote Jones, Rojo covering CB and Young covering Shaw. Good luck with that mate. Its not about sounding negative, its about seeing things as they are. one or two injuries in that think squad and we are in trouble.

You can never post too much Brendan.
I think arsenal have strengthened not as well as ourselves but a very good lb and winger.
Chelsea lost hazard but have pulsic in.
The rest are miles off imo. I expect Everton to blow got and cold with a new team. Wolves to slightly disimprove Leicester to struggle a bit for goals they will miss maguire too.
Spurs have bought well. But will miss rose and trippier more than people think. Status quo with last year
Big mistake by Liverpool not to reinvest while at the top. They will be 10 points off last years total imo.
A good start is essential over the first 10 games. No better way to start than to beat a top 4 rival straight off the bat.
My target is 15 points better than last season i believe that is very achievable.

Brendan, you are not crazy, could not agree more. The constant nay saying is getting ridiculous. Also hoping that some perspective returns to the page once the European window shuts and it just gets back football.

I hope we beat Chelsea, or I feel a few posters may explode in a glorious explosion of proof positive that we are indeed going to be relegated.

It's a sad reflection of how far we have fallen that we are even discussing whether we might be beaten to a top six spot by the likes of Wolves and Everton. That in itself is a sad indictment of how bad things have become. All of us on this site want Utd to succeed. None of us believe we have a divine right to. There has to be realism though and the sad fact is that City Liverpool and Spurs have a better first team than we do. Their squad players are also better. We do lack top quality creative and defensive midfielders. Shaw is suspect defensively getting caught out of position far too often and he is targeted by good teams. Watch this season and you will see. Young is a decent player but his best days are behind him and he never was a top defender. Defensively we lack cover too at centre back. Nobody can say with honesty that Smalling and Jones fills them with confidence. With VAR this season Smalling will be walking a tightrope because he always seems to hold players. Up front we do not have a player who you just know is going to get you 25+ goals a season guaranteed. Rashford is probably the one player able to get close but he is not going to score without service. And what happens if he gets injured. Its so telling that no too European players want to sign for us anymore. They are not blind.
