Liverpool FC have apparently put some non playing staff on furlough. Not having a pop at LFC because they are LFC but I seriously criticise this move. It brings shame upon them and if United ever do the same I will be ashamed. To furlough staff like this before playing staff who are 'earning' hundreds of thousands PER WEEK in some cases is disgusting behaviour. Football is living in a moral vacuum if this is considered to be the way forward.

{Ed047's Note - haven’t Spurs and Newcastle also done the same thing?

@ Ed047 I don't know but if they have then shame on them as well. I can only hope that United and our players show more moral fortitude and don't follow suit.

{Ed047's Note - they have scooby, pretty sure Spurs where the first and there was uproar as Levy was supposed to have taken a £3 million bonus for getting the stadium completed at the same time.

It’s not like Joe Lewis, Mike Ashley and John Henry are skint! 🤦‍♂️

Isn't it just so typical of Liverpool to furlough their staff but offer to pay the difference to make up their wages. What Heroes!

Liverpool a Club that prides itself for being at the heart of the community and proclaiming a self righteous sense of unity and togetherness is now using an emergency Government scheme in a time of National crisis to pay for its poorest workers.

People are dying in our hospitals, doctors, nurses and other health care professionals are working around the clock, some living separately from their own families and putting their own lives at risk whilst Liverpool now mercilessly use Government cash because they can't afford to pay their workers.,

You'll never Walk Alone (unless you work in the Club shop)!

{Ed004's Note - I think the players union is handling it well atm. After coming in for a lot of criticism because of the media attention it appears to be looking to do the right thing. If players agree to a 30% cut on wages the tax revenue lost alone will be staggering. It appears the players want to donate the 30% of their money to help out organisations such as the NHS whilst also paying their taxes as well. Effectively, they are just trying to ensure the billionaire owners dont profit off players taking wage cuts.

On a side note I think it's a good time to praise Ed Woodward because I've been proud of how he has handled a lot of situations lately. I know this could change in a second if he put the staff on furlough - but I'm hoping the evidence points to him not doing this. But the refunding of fans for the away game in Lask, making sure no employee is out of pocket, joint donations with Man City and rallying the side (through Maguire) to donate millions to the NHS is brilliant and something I'm delighted the club is doing. We are very quick to criticise the man but hes been brilliant lately}

Some people unfortunately are simply morally corrupt! Sickening really.

Ed004 - Great reply Ed, I completely agree and I don't blame the players it's the owners, CEO's, the decision makers at Clubs like Liverpool, Spurs, Newcastle, Norwich and Bournemouth who have effectively hung their players out to dry by furloughing their workers whilst continuing to pay millions in wages to their players. It just looks bad!

Don't get me wrong other FTSE Companies are equally culpable but this is a football forum and the game we all adore.

I also completely agree about Woodward, let's hope Utd come through this with a sense of dignity and pride. Not to show off or shout it from the roof tops but because it's the right thing to do.

I'm sorry but if the afore mentioned Clubs now go out and spend millions in the transfer market it clearly demonstrates their priorities and it's not with the fans or communities they so desperately claim they serve.

{Ed004's Note - Agree with everything you've said DLIB}

as much as are rivalry with liverpool. i have to give 99 per cent of there fans some credit here. most are ashamed, disgusted and appalled at what the club is doing. they are sending pettitions to the owners and whoever will listen.

Agreed dazw, similar thing happened when liverpools owner proposed increasing ticket prices and they staged a walk out and got them to back down if i remember correctly.

Shouldnt tarnish the fanbase for the actions of the hierarchy.

{Ed047's Note - definitely, it’s not the fans making these decisions.

This isn't down to the fans or playing staff, from what I've read Henderson is doing something similar t what McGuire is doing, this goes right to the top of the most virtue signalling club out there, it's a disgrace and as much as I hate liverpool (and I do) I feel terrible for thier fans, to be embarrassed and let down like this is unforgivable imo.

This isn't just the scousers either there are fans and staff up and down the country who are seeing thier clubs true colours, its despicable and I hope when this is over everyone remembers.

Glad people have seen the fans are disgruntled, hopefully the owners see it and back down.

They did after the tickets and hopefully they do something after the backlash from this.

We can accept people making mistakes, it’s how you react that can make all the difference.

Crickey Deano, 'hate' is a strong word; its only an inter city rivalry. If you truly hate people just because they live 30 miles down the road then I think you need to have a word with yourself.

I don't understand what all the hoohah is about here. Why are any of you surprised that ruthless billionaires and plcs are acting like ruthless billionaires and plcs?

The majority of the north have issues to resolve with the poorest in society not just Liverpool.

Plus any talk of the title takes a back seat until people’s health is no longer in the balance.

I hope the club’s actions will be taken into account if it comes down to a vote as to whether or not they are handed the title once the season has been scrapped. I feel a little sorry for their fans as I’d be mortified if United tried to pull something like this.

I've had a word with myself manc man and I agree, I hate that club.

Thanks 👍.

{Ed001's Note - that really is sad and pathetic to hate over a game. I am embarrassed for you.}
