Looking forward to next season now as this season is not certain. If we can get players in and start playing again then we need to be buy 3 to 4 decent players to make up the squad in my opinion.
Another central defender
another good midfield player
A right winger
A striker

I wpuld like us to buy Kouiibaly
Niguez, Sancho and Calvert Lewin

Any suggestions or disagreements?

No chance of Saul, Sancho and Koulibaly in one window. That’s close to £300m. It would be nice but no chance. I’d take anyone of those mind you.

Not sold on Calvert Lewin. He works very hard, but not sure he’s going to be the type of centre forward to hit 25/ 30 goals a season. I’d be happy with ighalo as our plan B as it gives greenwood more chance of regular game time too.

I think a lot depends on out goings.

Jones, Rojo and Smalling could all leave. But of only 2 of that 3 leave then I don't see us signing a CB this summer. Not when we already have Maguire, Lindelof, Bailly and Tuanzebe in the first team, plus young Teden Mengi in the youth set up.

While who we target in midfield I feel will be dictated by whether Pogba leaves or not. I think we will sign a CDM, regardless. But if Pogba leaves I can see us signing a more creative midfielder as well or we will be an injury to Bruno away from struggling to create again.

I can see us signing a CDM, RW, ST with maybe a versatile AM.

Partey
Sancho
Ighalo

With someone like Cantwell if Pogba leaves would be my ideal summer.

Are we interested in Partey? Perhaps one for 002 that. But it seems clear to me Sancho is the priority. Right wing has been a problem for a while now so understandable.

I agree with shappy on this thought I do like Cantwell, if we could have him to replace Lingard. I’d be happy with signing him but attacking midfield wise unless Lingard or mata leaves I don’t see us going for one. Bruno will be first choice, so Grealish doesn’t make sense to me. Cantwell is a good option though. Disagree with your other posts opinion on buendia though shaps. Good player but that’s all, we need top quality on the right.

{Ed002's Note - Matic has had a one year extension on his contract so the pressing need for a DM has gone plus there are three of four ahead of him in the picking order. Thomas Partey (DM) Atletico Madrid are not looking to let him leave but AM are in a significant debt issue and know that Llorennte, Saul, Partey and Lemar are the options to open up the opporunity to raise money - yet the interest of sides is a light year from serious. They may be able to ease the immediate strain with the help of Chelsea. Manchester City have had a discussion about Saul but he could easily be priced out of a move.}

Sancho and Saul alone would be enough imo.

With Sancho, Our attack instantly becomes more potent and balanced.
The midfield can control games with Saul.

Thanks for the reply Ed. With the extension do the club see mctominay and/ or Fred as being able to cover the deeper position? Matic can still play a role but as we have seen he does need a run of games and his age isn’t on his side. I know it’s been request for a full rundown of targets but DM wise are we looking at the position? Don’t need to name names but it is for me priority after right wing.

{Ed002's Note - Nothing has changed. The targets are largely the same - they are not going to add a dozen players.}

Apologies 002 I misread the first line ala targeting DM.

I do not want Koulibaly. He makes too many mistakes for my liking. Sancho or someone like him as an offensive right sided player is what we have lacked for ages. In midfield if anything happened to Fernandez we would have a problem creatively.

We do our little wishlists every time a window opens. We need X, Y and Z player, name the best ones or whatever flavour of the month and then watch us fumble about during the window.

One of the good points having Ole in charge is he will not rock the boat. He'll be quite happy with whatever he's given to work with.

In regards to defenders, I can't see us signing anyone. Pogba will sign another contract since there is no one looking for him this summer and stay for mother year so I can't see us signing a midfielder. We'll take the cheap option and sign Ighalo. The Sancho deal should already be in the bin considering the cost. Ole will talk up the return of Sanchez.

Can see the club and Ole justifing the lack of signings on the pandemic.

The goal is top 4. The owners don't care about winning the league so we'll see a small investment with Ole smiling every step of the way.

Much like when there was talk of Kane signing, the finances behind signing Sancho are crazy. Despite this, I want to see the best players playing at United and also players who would entertain. Sancho is a brilliant player who would improve the team and provide moments which gets fans off their seats (when they are eventually back in stadiums) . I'm sure he'd combine well with the likes of Bruno, Rashford and Martial.

On the other hand, while I can't say I know what the costs would be for Zakaria, Chiesa and Ighalo, I'd imagine when compared with the fee for Sancho, all three could be signed and there would still be funds leftover.

Either way, the team improves. The biggest issue for United this summer may not be incomings though. We have Sanchez, Smalling, Henderson, Rojo all out on loan and a few others who haven't had much game time. Pogba wants to leave and we seem to be desperate to keep him. They may be difficult to move and subsequently, our bloated squad will only become more bloated with more signings.

Rumour has it that Sancho wants Champions League football. That is something we can't offer him even if we do pay the £200 million to get him.

It looks like Partey's agents are working hard at trying to get us more interested in Partey than we are currently. From what is seen it more talk about him wanting/ preferring a move to us rather than us chasing him.

Which would be a shame in my opinion as I feel he would be a great fit. Strong defensively and plays the ball forward quickly and accurately. He would suit our more counter attacking style. Win the ball when the opposition are pressing, then quick ball between the lines to our forwards breaking into space.

I'm not a huge fan of Koulibaly, he dallies a little too long on the ball, which you might get away with in the slower paced Italy, but in the EPL you'll be robbed. I also think the asking price at his age is far too high, especially for a player who isn't proven in a top league outside of Italy.

Sancho should clearly be the priority, I doubt we'll get a better chance to sign him. With many clubs struggling financially and the ones who aren't have other priorities. While it could be argued that RW is our biggest priority this summer. He's young, English and has huge potential.

That said even we have our limits, while it's also important not to be crass during a difficult time. We have seen the negative backlash from EPL sides furloughing their staff. There is a PR side to transfers this summer that needs to be considered more carefully than ever before.

So we do need to consider other options in case Sancho is beyond us this season. We can't afford to not bring someone in for that RW position this summer. As I have already said that needs to be our number one priority. So if not Sancho then who?

There is a lack of genuinely world class right wingers. In a football landscape where you want inverted wide players, you have far less left footed players to play RW than right footed players to play LW.

Sancho for example played most of his youth career on the left. He only plays on the right for Dortmund as that was where the opportunity in the first team opened up. The rest they say is history. He is a rare example of top class right footed winger playing on the right.

Emi Buendía is a good option who is EPL proven. He has been outstanding this season and statistically matches up with the best in the league despite playing for the side rooted to the bottom of the table.

Would I pick him over Sancho, absolutely not. But if Sancho isn't available are there many better options available? It's tough to find them.

Hi all and you’re all well.

Mumbles you mentioned £200m to get Sancho and he won’t sign unless we have Champions League. Appreciate the Eds will be more in the know but figure I've seen quoted was €100m so £87m.

And are we not technically in a Champions League spot in 5th (actual position and same per UEFA points per game / merit suggestion) and City are banned for 2 years from Europe?

I can only see the City ban being reduced but still expect them to serve a season suspension. FFP is a complete mockery if they’re found guilty and no meaningful sanction, ie not financial, is brought to bear.

Hey Halesini. His agent wants an estimated €50 million, plus want Dortmund would expect and a signing on fee for the kid. Might not be £200 million but it wouldn't be far off.

Chelsea are the canary down the mine. Normally when they don't want any part of a deal it's because it's not a very good one.

The same emi buendia who hasn’t scored a single goal in the premier league this season? He may have 7 assists but not what we need in my opinion and certainly doesn’t match up statistically with the best in the league lol. We’ve got someone who assists but needs to work on scoring in Danny James. We need someone who can contribute goals as well as assists.

Thanks Mumbles. A cheeky 50m for an agent. I think I should assess alternative career opportunities whilst in this pandemic!
