See some talk of Chelsea looking at Declan Rice as a centre back. wouldn't be a bad punt for us! Koulibaly is 29 and would cost in excess of 70 million. Rice is younger and cost much less. Cool on the ball and great pass on him? Only a thought.

Do you think he'd cost less? Not so sure. Maybe we could use lingard or jones as makeweights. Very good cb and improving in midfield and could provide cover for matic in dm.

He would be a player who kills two birds with one stone, improving both our CB and CDM options.

However with Matic, Fred and McTominay fighting bit out for what will be one position unless Pogba leaves I'm not convinced we will sign a CDM this window. While we currently have Maguire, Lindelof, Bailly, Tuanzebe, Smalling, Jones, Rojo and Mengi for CB. So I would expect at least three of that eight would need to leave before we looked to bring in another CB.

So great player, but at a 60m+ price tag for two positions we have plenty of cover in I think is a luxury which we can't afford atm with so many other areas of the team needing improving.

Square peg for a round hole springs to mind. We've suffered enough with that in the past and if I remember rightly, it didn't work too well.

If we want a defender, then let's buy a defender. Likewise for a decent DM. Is Declan Rice really good enough at either to helps us kick on a level? I'm not convinced myself.

As Ken stated using the likes of lingard and Jones as part of the deal would help with that! I read this week Moyes may move for the likes of those 2 for next season?

Was listening to an ex player on Talk sport about Rice. Canr rememeber who but was somebody who normally talks sense. They said Rice has played as a centre back in the West Ham youth teams and knows the position and its requirements. More than that he has the physical attributes and intelligence to play there. It may be that he needs good coaching to ensure a proper transition from midfielder but he is young and I think long term could be really good. The problem for Ole is that success is demanded short term.

If I was signing a CB right now it would be Jose Gimenez, if I was signing a CDM right now it would be Florentino Luis.

There are other interesting names who could prove to be great signings, Gabriel of Lille for CB or Sangare of Toulouse for example.

Yet I suspect CB and CDM to be looked at next summer, so who knows who will be on the radar by then.

However, its RW and CAM that is needed this summer, then possibly a replacement for Pogba if he leaves.
