Rip Jack Charlton. Thanks for the memories big Jack. Not many men of that caliber around now.
A world cup winner and took an Irish team and put them up there against the best teams in the world.

I was about to post the same Leahy.
Jack gave Irish soccer its best 8 years ever.
I went to euro 88 and itialia 90 midway through the opening group and stayed for every game inculding the wc 1/ 4 final. That night in Rome will remain as the best football experience i ever had as a fan even though we lost just pipping noucamp 99.
Also went to usa 94 i remember beating the eventual winners italy in the 1st game in the giants stadium.
Jack was made an honorary irish man and although mad as a march hare and potentially the worst style of football ever he will always be remembered as a great great manager and man by everybody in Ireland .
RIP Jack and thanks for the memories❤❤.

I'm tea total Danny. must have been other reasons😂😂
Best years of my life as a football fan really good times. I don't see them happening again for our national team for quite some time if ever.
A 1/ 4 final place in our 1st ever world cup. 1 million purple on streets of Dublin to welcome home a team that competed way above their level. Fans that did the country proud too and fans that are welcomed everywhere because we know how to party repectfully.
Win or lose.

There was something so poetic about those Irish sides led by Jack that almost mirrored society.

The economy was in the toilet. Not a lot to look forward to but like the national team, our heads never dropped. Everyone was in it together pulling in the same direction.

That national team was a beacon of light for a lot of Irish going through difficult times. Like Ken said, 1 million on the streets is incredible.

Jack, Ireland and the fans all lined up perfectly and not one Irish fan doesn't look back on the countless results, goals and stories with a smile on their face.
