The Sancho deal is inevitably turning into a saga. Perhaps one of Sneijderesque proportions. Am I right in thinking Chelsea are the only club actively pursuing Havertz though? Appreciate mentioned previously that Havertz can play multiple positions as a creative and attacking threat. More than Sancho?

There doesn't seem an obvious need for someone like Havertz given the outlay on Fernandes in his more favoured central orchestrating role but I think Bruno could also play more as an No.8 also. Grealish for £80m or Havertz for similar is surely no contest as to who we should be in for. Giving Chelsea a free run at Havertz is a huge mistake.

I'm less convinced how much money we have available for transfers will cover what we need (RW, CB, AM/ CM) and strongly suspect we will blow all our budget on Sancho IF we sign him.

Shifting Sanchez off the wage bill is a significant piece of business for us. Hopefully the signal that 6 or 7 who we all know whose time should be up will also be on their way out. Strongly suspect there is only budget for one major signing and anything else depends on thinning our oversized / overpaid herd.

{Ed002's Note - No other side is looking to Havertz. Manchester United's interest is in Sancho, not Havertz.}

Thanks Ed. Think we are missing a huge trick not expressing some interest in Havertz. Will be a Hazard type impact at Chelsea.

Utd won't pay £80 for Grealish, RW winger is a position utd need to address. And going for Sancho shows Ole knows what he needs.

Why the obsession with Havertz? Are you fed up of Bruno already.

Sexy name Kai Havertz isn't it lol.

Bruno and Havertz can play in the same team. Just like Kevin de Bruyne and David Silva can. Not all teams attack us and we don’t need many players with tons of pace. We need players who can cover multiple positions with quality and Havertz fits the bill.

Why would anyone think we could get this deal over the line in a few days? We have been told, on here over and over how complicated it will be, vast sums of money involved, intermediary doing the deal and 2 stubborn clubs that don't want to give the other an inch.

Dortmund are in control here and if we pony up what they want eventually we will get the player, i'd say its almost certain we will pony up, but its poker between the 2 clubs atm, did anyone really believe the aug 10th deadline? Imo it will go way beyond that but we will still end up with the player, we need to have a bit of patience and show a bit of faith.

Deano, I don't see why you say that Dortmund are in control. We may want Sancho, but have other players we can go for. Dortmund don't need to sell, but Sancho wants to leave. If they don't meet us half way, then we can walk away and Dortmund will have a player who does not want to be there and he will have played another year of his contract.

csf, its obvious all our eggs are in the sancho basket, he is exactly the type of signing the manager and club want, although i agree to an extent with what you say, I still believe we will get him but wouldn't be completely shocked if we loaned coming and revisited this next summer, I hope we don't, I hope we pay, he is the next step in my humble opinion.

He sure does deano. I've never known a journalist like him. A very good documentary about him on YouTube. A day in the life or something to that effect. He is relentless in his work and is incredibly accurate.

If its true and there's a 50m agent fee plus 120m for dortmund then it won't get done will it.

Dortmund put a 10th August Deadline on it so Utd not getting this done by then are they.

If they are Deano, then we are more amateur than Ed002 says. Are you sure we are "one target" United or do the press have an agenda?

Surely nobody is believing the 10th August deadline as anything but a negotiation tactic.

How the world moves on. Are we really talking about a $50m agents fee? And no-one was even a little bit sick in the back of their mouth?

Think what some lower division clubs could do with $50m. Not too long ago $50m was the astronomical Torres fee, now it is just the grease for the agents wheel.

How can this continue, detatched from all reality. C.V. decimating the world, millions of people worried about their financial security. But the football machine goes on.

{Ed0666's Note - didn’t Sanchos agent drop his fee rate?

I hope so ed, I have no idea.

{Ed002's Note - The agent offered a lower fee for two other sides. I am not aware of such a proposal to Manchester United at this time.}

csf, i'm not sure how amateur we are, from what I can see we scrape by day to day, I just think the boy ticks all the boxes so we will stop at nothing to get him and i believe we will.

Maybe its just me but I'm not on a complete downer like a lot seem to be, i'm a happier united fan than I have been for 7 years so i'm willing to put a bit of trust in the player and even the other folk behind the scenes, not a controversial opinion but mine very own.
