I watch the warm up with interest. Just observations.
Bruno was excellent in warm up, good accuracy and as they say practice makes perfect he banged a couple in from the distance he scored from.
Hojland, like against Liverpool was ordinary in the warm up, missing the target several times and even slipped and fell over.
Young Wheatley in warm up where they do one touch in a circle, saw he had quick feet. When he came on he seemed to run on his toes, glide and closed a defender down so quickly, tall looks a good prospect at first sight.
Antony Backwards should be his name. Notable live how he never challenges the full back, never tests for pace, just turn and pass back.

I’ve noticed that Hojlund slips a few times in games when he’s about to shoot.

A while back I posted a link waxing lyrical about a young talent in Australia called Nestory Irankunda and to keep an eye out. Bayern Munich swept him up and he heads to Europe in a few weeks after the A League season.

But before he goes he will be representing the A League all stars against Newcastle United. Now he may well be outclassed at this early stage but hopefully he can put in a good showing.

This kid has it all. Size, speed, skill and arrogance.

Ethan Wheatley: "Bruno pulled me to the side and told me I’ve got nine minutes to try get you a goal. "

You can keep your hate. This man's my captain. He cares more, and shows passion, and has a greater determination to win than any player we've had in a long, long time. And he's banging in goals and staking up assists.

He does have leadership qualities, people would be blind to deny that.

Unfortunately the play acting and petulance overshadow how good he is. Although he’s back in form recently, and nobody on here can take his numbers away from him.

For me he’s our best player, somebody who would thrive under Pep, and we should be looking to keep him.

The argument is that in a better-performing team those negative traits are less prevalent so his antics are really a by-product of the current state of affairs. Last season we called them passionate and defending the club, this season they're adding fuel to the fire.

25 Apr 2024 08:32:36
Leaders don’t lead when lying screaming on the floor whilst the opposition storm forward. Lead from the front is an old saying yet where has he been? Why did Hojland have to stand on his own after scoring a high pressure pen last week, where was the leader then?
Bruno runs a lot, but doesn’t appear to be in any structure, does what he wants, freedom with responsibility. Sets an example for energy but not one to go into a battle with, not a leader for me,

25 Apr 2024 08:51:38
Doesn't appear to be in any structure? Does what he wants. Whose fault is that I wonder?

Yes Keefy but I wasn’t starting that argument on this thread!
Hope you enjoyed being there live, I did. Will post on that
Bruno gets plaudits but is not disciplined, runs an awful lot mind you. Warming up his shooting was good, scoring with similar shots to what he did in the match.

Problem is Redman, and I agree with you as I posted about it, had he run up and celebrated with Hojlund after the Penalty, fans would be saying it's embarrassing and he needed to show class towards Coventry like Maguire, he didn't and now people (You ;) ) are questioning his leadership. Now he could have achieved both but then you could argue why didn't Maguire go to Hojlund.

Fernandes is a target for the fan base because of his antics but he's the one player who is always available, the one player who will stand in front of the camera after a game, he was on 1 leg playing CB v Liverpool which no one mentions. The lads stats are, outstanding in what people are saying is an unstructured team, more G/ A this season than Odergaard and De Bruyne will lesser players around him. I'd be fairly confident fans would take Guimaraes, Saka, Maddison, Jota, Salah in this team yet they are all guilty of these traits Fernandes shows.

Traits that we don't like is common in the game, a reason enjoying football becomes harder and harder each season along with VAR but I think we need to, not look past it but praise what he does as much as we criticise what he does. I have a list as long as my arm on players I personally want out of the club this summer and Fernandes is not on it or would be right at the bottom of the list if he was.

Ports spot on. Yes his moaning and play acting at times is unnecessary but he clearly cares and tries every game. If all other players in the team had half his work ethic Utd would be playing much better and not losing so much. Also as pointed out as there is no clear playing structure he often feels compelled to run all over the pitch to cover for where other players should be.

 2

25 Apr 2024 11:32:03
Can't be critical of him last night or indeed for effort practically every week.

 2

25 Apr 2024 12:11:14
Agree, can’t criticise his effort and at the game you can see his running even more but it needs to be channeled, he needs coaching to be in the places where he can do most damage and not lose structural integrity of our set up. Looks like as Captain he is trying to be seen to do the most, his running stats must be ahead of everyone.
I just don’t understand why we blabbed £60m on Mount who plays in the same position and is injured a lot.

 0

25 Apr 2024 12:32:28
Yeah Redman, if we'd spent that £60m on either a mediocre left back and mediocre center back, or a decent DM, I think we'd have a good chance at having made CL places this season.

25 Apr 2024 13:14:06
Yes Redman. Enjoyed being there. Stretford end seats. Going back for Burnley game.

Former Netherlands international Wesley Shhhhhneijderer has said he hopes Manchester United lose next month's FA Cup final 5-0 after Antony's post-match behaviour against Coventry City in Sunday's semi-final at Wembley.

Maybe he could come out of retirement to show us what he can do. Although I'm pretty sure we signed him a few times in the past.

24 Apr 2024 17:53:35
What Antony did isn’t even that bad. Anyone would think he started windmilling in the direction of young children with the amount of attention it’s got. People need to get a grip of themselves.

24 Apr 2024 18:29:52
Wazza,

He came on at 3-0 against a championship side, didn’t take a penalty in the shootout and then cupped his ears like an absolute weapon. It’s not THAT bad but it’s absolutely embarrassing.

24 Apr 2024 20:54:04
GtS, correct. You've explained exactly what happened.

So why is Wesley Sneijder commenting on it? Does he have nothing better to contribute?

25 Apr 2024 08:43:52
Very disrespectful from our long term transfer target.

The more I read about Ruben Amorim the more I think INEOS should go all out to get him into Old Trafford. He sounds like a very humble, likeable bloke who is always trying to learn from his peers in the game. Apparently very intelligent with excellent English.

A lot of fans probably thought the same about ETH before he joined.

I am past the point of caring about who is at the helm next season. As long as we avoid Southgate and clear the toxicity and uninterested players from the changing room, I will give anyone a chance.

 5

24 Apr 2024 17:05:05
We have empirical evidence that no manager will succeed without a change in the management structure, a process which is at its very beginning. With the Euros in the summer, time for transfer activity will be limited. We are not going to be in the ECL, which will be a turn off. If ETH is fired at the end of the season then the new manager will have virtually no time to give his input into the type of players he would like to see. If ETH is staying, which seems unlikely, then he is the one who will be influencing the new transfers. If the club doesn't trust in his ability given a new structure around him, then that would be a mistake. Add to that FFP issues. So, I think one way or another, this transfer window is going to be very difficult to make an enormous amount of squad headway, and patience will be needed, whoever the manager is.

(And yes, there was a pretty big contingent of supporters here advocating for Ten Hag two years ago) .

25 Apr 2024 08:29:46
We've had some massive managers in the last 10 years who've done the lot, and they got swallowed up and failed miserably. All any new guy is going to do is go back to the start and add a couple of players in his own vision, except this time he'll have ten Hag's misfits in the world's worst jigsaw as well as all the others.
Surely we have to see where we are after one more window. We can expect 3-4 in at least and anywhere up to 8-9 out I reckon. Let's see where we are once we're back at full strength with those transfers in/ out.

Buzzing to be in another cup final. We will be underdogs but definitely in with a shout. City are human. can't say there's much positivity around the team at the moment but we have players capable of big moments which i think we will have to rely on as we can't expect to dominate the game. Chance for someone to become a hero and add another trophy to the cabinet - massive opportunity!

 4

24 Apr 2024 15:39:55
01jamham2 - what makes you think we have a shout we struggled badly against a championship team should have lost the game and would have if VAR did not intervene, i think we might get battered and it might be the biggest loss ever in a cup final. We are truly awful at the moment.

 2

24 Apr 2024 16:11:03
Thats the spirit!

I agree we haven't been good recently, but sometimes the underdog can have a good game. On form, I expect a city win - but anything can happen and there's a lot of talent in our squad.

 3

24 Apr 2024 16:33:25
I agree we were lucky dio and could have easily lost the game, but I think to say we struggled badly is a bit of an overstatement.

We controlled the game quite comfortably for 70 minutes and allowed them an easy goal from too much space. Their second goal came from a horrible deflection and their penalty was a controversial handball, given the appeals and lack of consistency from VAR from other games over the weekend.

I'm not trying to downplay the issues, but Coventry had huge momentum in the game through desire and had a great tactician in Mark Robins. We were naive to assume they would just roll over and accept defeat at 3-0 down, their previous game against Wolves is evidence they will fight to the last breath.

 4

24 Apr 2024 16:35:18
Dio, we were very good for 70 or so minutes Vs Coventry. We just broke down completely at the end. Saying we struggled and should have lost doesn't really paint the full picture now does it. Any other day we win by three or more goals. Anything can happen in the final. City are massive favourites and all pressure is on them.

Well done to our u18s. League and cup double this season. great work lads and hopefully a few make the breakthrough over the next few years.

 5

24 Apr 2024 12:57:04
Yeah great to see! Seems to be a good pathway into first team squad at the moment. U21s had an average year but is quite a young team by all accounts, so maybe some of the U18s will make a difference in U21s next year. Always great seeing academy lads lining up in the first team.

Has PGMOL turned into an impossible to overthrow dictatorship?

Great read. Completely agree with all you say!
Something really has to be done for the benefit of our game as we will lose it otherwise. Need everyone to challenge it correctly and with intent ie clubs, supporters pundits and broadcasters. then something may change.

Great post Ed.

I can’t make my mind up if it’s corruption or incompetence. I would prefer the latter but somehow I can’t convince myself.

What’s most disappointing is the pundits. I had hoped the likes of Colleymore would be on the side of the supporters. This whole subject makes me realise how much we miss the old-guard - the likes of Jimmy Hill who would be championing the cause for supporters. I completely agree with the way the media, and even journalists like Henry Winter, are condemning NFFC. What have they done wrong? Nothing. Other than raise concerns that the public have had for months and months and months. It’s ironic that Gary Nev, who I’m seriously starting to dislike, accused NFFC of behaving like the mafia. I think that accusation is better directed towards the PGMOL.

I wonder if anybody has seen the video doing the rounds of the 4th Coventry goal on Sunday? Video is on X posted by EPL Bible. The still frame used by VAR does not in anyway match the video filmed by the supporter who was level with the offside decision. AWB’s position relative to the cut of the grass is completely different. I hate the fact I’m raising this as I sound like a conspiracy theorising lunatic. I just want a plausible explanation so I can say ‘Okay’ and move on.

I had hoped that a football regulator would help get the EPL, FA and PGMOL inline. Improve transparency. The problem, just as in other industries, is that the regulator becomes equally incompetent or corrupt. We see it with the railways, water companies, OFCOM etc. I don’t know what the solution is other than fans boycotting games and TV, and we know that will never happen.

I fear this is just the beginning. Cup Final in USA. EPL matches in Saudi. Corporate boxes growing. A deep-football state rigging outcomes to support the needs of TV companies and advertisers. Ask yourself. How many supporters would tune into an FA Cup final featuring Coventry against City compared to United. That's a lot of advertising revenue lost by some influential companies.

It’s a sad period for English football. I only wish supporters could better mobilise themselves to take action on matters like this. Even if I'm so wrong on some of the above, you have to ask yourself why is football one of the few walks of life where there isn't corruption?
