Er-am i missing the obvious here, surely next season will be considered a success if its a top 3 finish? if 5 or 6 players do come in won't it take at least 10-15 games for them to bed in and for jose's philosophy to be imprinted on the team (bearing in mind i'm hoping for a more attacking approach? ), nothing would make everyone happier if the team hit the ground running, but surely what with the world cup and new signings joining after a delayed holiday, i'm going to guess next season will be a 'transition season' with maybe a cup or dare to believe a good campaign in the champions league? hopefully jose and his new inner circle will prove me wrong big time.

1.) 05 Jun 2018 14:33:32
The players that are at the club all ready will of all had at least 12 month to get the philosophy so we should in theory improve .

2.) 05 Jun 2018 15:35:25
Yeah you are missing the fact we aren't Arsenal mate.

3rd year in is the 'prove it' season, not another transition season. Every top club has to contend with the World Cup. Most top clubs buy several players in the transfer window.

Jose's philosophy can be learnt in 94 minutes, just have them watch the film "127 hours", survive the onslaught, dismember your heritage, and grind it out until the bitter end!

Since when has the financial targets of the club been the targets of the fans? I don;t care where we finish personally, I'd just like to think the past 2 years of dross football have been building to something pleasing on the eye and bringing in entertainment value from the massive investments we have made.

3.) 05 Jun 2018 15:53:10
No excuses this coming season. We have to perform and we have to challenge for the title and at least quarters for the champions league. If we are not performing to where we should be with the money spent, then it is time to start looking at a different manager.

4.) 05 Jun 2018 18:47:17
There should be no more excuses next season the manager will have had the length of his original contract, unlimited funds and the complete backing of the board.

Next season is time to stand up and be counted and I think we will unlike most on here I could care less if we make big money superstar signings I kind of like the look of the signings we've made today for example they seem the kind of signings made for the sake of the team not just to sell shirts .

Personally I think we will at least win the title next season and have a right crack at the UCL, but if we don't I think the blame can only land at one person's feet.

5.) 05 Jun 2018 19:13:15

6.) 05 Jun 2018 20:41:13
Sorry jred you've lost me mate?

29 May 2018 21:11:57
There seems to be a bit of a rumour about grealish being looked at, good player and worth a punt i reckon.

{Ed025's Note - thats all united need CO82....another young guy with an attitude problem mate..

1.) 29 May 2018 23:02:01
Ed025-where is the love! by all accounts that injury he had which kept him out for months has apparently woke him up.

{Ed025's Note - leopards and spots and all that CO62, he thought he was the bees knees at villa on 8k a week imagine what he will be like at united on 100k a week?, after depay and martial you would thing they would have learn,t something mate..

2.) 30 May 2018 07:18:10
Looked a handful and more hungry grealish look at depay now tho back to the type of form that made united go out and buy him i'd like to see young english or British players given more of a chance at top teams!

3.) 30 May 2018 08:32:55
Not for me. Goes down far too easily and then rolls around the floor then all of a sudden is absolutely fine. Likes to look good with his hair. Gomez and Chong are already at Utd and are younger and better.

4.) 30 May 2018 09:58:09
I can't believe this story has any legs at all. Grealish is a decent player for Championship, Lower level prem. Snodgrass style.

He looks decent because almost everything is played through him - does anyone think for one second he will touch the ball half as much at a top club? He is also very wasteful, for every decent thing he does, he seems to give it away or makes the wrong decision 5 times.

I'd be frankly amazed if we attempt to sign him, and this comes from somebody who has almost zero faith in our transfer policy!

That's without considering his ego/ attitude problems - although he may fit in nicely on that front!

5.) 30 May 2018 10:19:12
It’s most likely just media rubbish beast. It seems the media have no real clue who we are in for, as the Dallot interest seems to show. They seem to be going by the mantra that if you throw enough crap at the wall then perhaps some will stick. The club knows it’s targets and they have a plan in place. Trust the process.

6.) 30 May 2018 14:09:08
50% of Villa fans think he's decent the other half seem to think he is a big headed show pony.

If someone could harness all the good parts of that kid Traore at Mboro he would be worth a punt. he is like Zaha on acid at the moment but there is a very good player in there somewhere.

7.) 30 May 2018 20:24:25
Villa need 45m to avoid penalties next season on overspend in efl rules what better way to sell grralish for as much as possible by putting out reports that united want him for 30m. Villa need to raise cash.

8.) 30 May 2018 20:38:23
Not a nice guy class82. he's not that talented either.

9.) 03 Jun 2018 02:46:08
We nolonger need these young boys, let's go look for players like Griezman and Bale.

{Ed0333's Note - Am is the only one that thinks Griezmann and Bale aren’t the world class players that everyone thinks they are.

25 May 2018 20:57:24
So the u23 captain Riley has signed for bradford its reported, i wonder if the great and the good at old trafford have included a sell-on clause at the very least, otherwise shades of pogba spring to mind.

1.) 25 May 2018 21:11:47
Shades of Pogba? He signed for Bradford.

2.) 25 May 2018 22:41:56
Mancman that reply made me laugh.

3.) 26 May 2018 00:14:36
You got to be kidding classof82? Riley is decent but is not somebody we will regret selling.

4.) 25 May 2018 23:43:38
. of Turin.

5.) 26 May 2018 01:05:27
😂 sell on clause, brilliant.

6.) 26 May 2018 18:05:17
He's no great shakes.

03 May 2018 21:20:13
Hey Ed-have you heard anything about dave the save buying a house in madrid, its been reported by a few supposed 'insiders' at los blancos apparently, bearing in mind the idea is to strengthen, surely jose wouldn't entertain this deal would he?

{Ed001's Note - not sure how this is related to anything. He has more than one house already in Spain, as do a lot of the Spanish national team, I assume it is a financial advisor that was involved with the squad that convinced them that property is a good investment. Sergio Ramos has a house in the village near to where my parents live, but I doubt he is returning to Sevilla any time soon.

Madrid would love to add him, he would like to go home, but they have a lot of players they need to replace, so I doubt they will go for him this summer.}

1.) 04 May 2018 19:03:21
Edoo1-cheers for that, hope your right, i also hope jose thinks about giving sam johnstone a go between the sticks, i think he's matured a lot this season at aston villa, and he seems to have grown into the position of being number 1 there.

{Ed001's Note - I think he will leave to be honest, probably for Villa, on a permanent deal.}

2.) 05 May 2018 06:42:17
Ed001-i think your right, but i wouldn't be surprised if another prem. club sneaked in and nabbed him, even if he cost 5-8 million he'd be a bargain., i reckon henderson might be sold as well, bit of a shame, but that's showbiz i suppose.

{Ed001's Note - maybe, but he seems quite settled at Villa. I would say it depends on them clinching promotion this season.}

19 Apr 2018 14:16:10
So, firstly, not in any rumours columns in the papers, not heard off the radio or on the internet by dodgy journos' or bloggers, but i was feeding some of the pidgeons (as you do), and one starting having a chat with me (after 4 tins of tennants i'm telling you we can all speak to the animals! ), and he said that a player jose is looking at is none other than marco arnautovic (spelling? ), jose had him as a youngster at inter milan and has kept a friendly interest at how he's progressed, so for all those who are going to dig me out about listening to rumours merchants on the radio or newspapers, you'd be wrong, all i can say is, when was the last time a pidgeon lied about a potential player joining! lol!

1.) 19 Apr 2018 17:47:45
If it were a Seagull you were talking to I'd have a bit more confidence mate.

2.) 19 Apr 2018 19:14:39
They’re all called Stephen you know.

3.) 19 Apr 2018 19:16:34
Your defiantly for the birds 😀.

4.) 19 Apr 2018 19:24:18
Avian flu must be doing the rounds again.

5.) 19 Apr 2018 19:35:10
What happened to Ronnie? The king is dead, long live the king.

6.) 19 Apr 2018 19:57:52
Speaking of birds what happened to Ngiak?

7.) 19 Apr 2018 21:52:16
Be careful with pigeons they're manufactured as spies. They're everywhere watching and listening to everything.

If you don't believe me, answer this. Who's ever seen a baby pigeon?

I'm tellin ya. They're not to be trusted.

8.) 19 Apr 2018 22:24:46
Can believe I’m saying this but I miss Ronnie.

9.) 19 Apr 2018 22:33:00
Ronnie will be back in a couple of weeks.

10.) 19 Apr 2018 23:52:15
Is he on a de-tox? 😂😂.

11.) 21 Apr 2018 09:56:53
Ronnie is on a scouting mission looking at Peru under-14s versus a Sri Lankan XI. I expect ED002 will be giving more details of the promising young players on show in the next Sharkopod.

As one or two have alluded to, shouldn't old ed deadwood be being looked at?

1.) 21 Aug 2018 22:00:55
Do you find him handsome as well?

2.) 21 Aug 2018 22:20:17
But not touched, no touching.

3.) 22 Aug 2018 01:58:30
Lol-i think need to scarper down to specsavers quick.

20 Aug 2018 03:33:46
There are those in journo land who have it on 'jibba-jabba'authority that the dressing room is split, that the reason luke shaw is staying is not because he wants to 'fight for his place', but because he's been advised that jose won't be in charge by the end of the season, seems the papers are waiting for the fall-out from the amazon documentary to run its course to see what happens, to me the constant disparaging stories about jose smacks of some journos' wanting payback, but somehow i think the lack of support from the directors upwards is a silence that's defining, nows the time to voice support or be prepared for more tosh being reported.

1.) 20 Aug 2018 11:03:22
Our great club has become a joke. Instead of discussing how we will conquer Europe by beating the great European teams. We are here discussing rifts, bust ups, boredom and people wanting to leave. Our club is becoming like a class in a secondary school. Why would a top world class talent want to join us when we like this. We need a new manager 100%.

2.) 20 Aug 2018 11:50:11
MissingFergie. As i and some of the others have alluded to in the past 2-3 years, the club needs a shake up from the top down to the playing staff and manager.
There is no quick fix or a silver bullet I'm afraid. The owners have to get their priorities right. They have to invest time in the way the club is run on the pitch, not just off the pitch. Woodward has been a complete joke in the transfer market and we clearly need a more professional approach. When David Gill was in charge, most transfers happened seamlessly.
The manager doesn't want to be here and it shows in the way he behaves and talks. Yet, we rushed into giving him a one year contract extension. Why?
It seems the whole place is rudderless and no one is in charge. A new manager might paper over the cracks, but will not solve the problems completely.
The club structure has to change to focus on the footballing side as much as they do the commercial side. Director of Football will be a good start, but we need to sort out the manager's intentions first before we appoint a DOF.
Is Mourinho staying or is he getting the push? If he's unhappy here, and if the dressing room is split, then the board have to act and act quickly and get rid of him.
Appointment of next manager will then become crucial. We need someone who is happy to live in Manchester (and why not, as it is a great city) . Someone who understands and respects our heritage and plays in the right way. Someone, who is assertive but not divisive. And most importantly, someone who can spread the word and attract the right players to our club and can work well with the DOF.
Until this happens, we will be playing second fiddle to City and Liverpool unfortunately.

3.) 20 Aug 2018 15:00:42
I agree completely with the first part of your post, but I don't think things would be solved by a new manager. The Glazers are interested in money, not glory. They have loaded a massive debt on the club and take millions out every year for themselves. Whilst Fergie and Gill were at the club, the effect of this was hidden, but now we have Woodward who is also a money man and is hopeless in the football world. Both LVG and Jose have complained about not being able to get hold of him to talk. Unlike the Abu Dhabi team over the last 10 years, there is no plan to improve - just to stay high enough for the money to keep coming in.
Sorry if this is depressing but I really feel this is the case.

4.) 20 Aug 2018 21:54:35
That’s the point of the DoF surely. They decide who the first team coach is ultimately and is a good stooge for actually making a decision.

Two years in and we still don’t know our best 11, formation or style Of play under Jose. I am a fan of his but he
Does not fit our club. Time to make a younger, longer term change and back then. G Neville, Giggs, Poch, Jardim whomever. As long as we entertain and go for it.

06 Aug 2018 23:17:19
If memory serves me right;didn't pogba's agent, mr. raiola say just before the world cup that united were 'lucky' to get mr. showbiz for 100 million and that it should have been at least near 150 million? now bearing in mind old lofty had a good world cup surely his value should now be north of 150 million, now if the club do decide to cash in, and woodward gets anything less than 150 million, then there's something wrong with his abacus, or take 100 million and 'x' amount of players to the value of at least 75 million, simples! -but something tells me woodward has the hard-nosed poker face of mr. bean.

1.) 06 Aug 2018 23:41:10
Just out of interest, do you think he’s worth more now that when you signed him?
When he came he was good with bags of potential, some question marks maybe but time to improve them.
Is he not now just older and probably no better?
Plus I don’t think you will get 150 million for a player you want rid of?

2.) 06 Aug 2018 23:43:11
Cheers Ed for getting my spelling of 'raiola'amended, but there's still a part of me that thinks on balance, i got it bang on!

{Ed004's Note - Just don't want it descending into anarchy around here}

3.) 07 Aug 2018 08:53:04
Firmane - in simple numbers yes he is definitely worth more - this is thanks to the Neymar/ Dembele/ Coutinho transfers changing the market.

06 Aug 2018 11:25:35
I was talking to a more mature united fan about waiting for some late deals hopefully being done before the window closed, at which point he slamed his his pint onto the table, gave an angry grimace and said simply, when SAF and kenyon were there, they got business done as soon as the window opened after identifying targets throughout the season and maybe putting out the 'feelers'to agents before the window opened 'allegedly', now bearing in mind woodward isn't jetting around the world every 5 minutes, why couldn't he show some cunning and follow a successful formula, seems the only manager who has followed that formula is klippety klopp, i'm hoping woodward pulls a rabbit out of the hat, if not, then you really blame jose for wodwards' posturing.

1.) 06 Aug 2018 11:43:59
Your more mature united fan mate has a poor memory.

2.) 06 Aug 2018 12:21:41
Slamming down pint glasses isn't particularly mature behaviour.

3.) 06 Aug 2018 11:47:51
Especially with the price of ale these days Danny!

01 Aug 2018 01:33:00
Ribalta has chipped off to st. petersburg-will he be missed? has a great reputation for talent spotting at juve amongst others, is someone else lined up to replace him?

Just a quick point, i'd like to know just how much more influence agents now have on players routines, a certain agent revealed he liked his client to be looking for a move with about 18 months left on his contract, (whether he was happy at a club or not! ), so as to get his cut of the transfer pie or to talk up improved terms and bonus' to get his cut, mix that with increased commercials potential and branding, its like the player hasn't enough time to play football!

I think its a case of when, not if unfortunately, SAF was right about his agent for sure, when he does go, he can take his roller and his chauffer and shove it.

Like keano said about boateng on itv "a players' not right in the head if he's got 650 pairs of shoes"--nuff said!

{Ed001's Note - nothing wrong with liking shoes, if that is how Keane judges players it is no wonder he made a crap manager! Michael Jordan loved his shoes and clothes but he never had a problem getting his head right to perform. This is the kind of idiotic thinking that holds football back in the dark ages. It is ok if they want to go and drink 25 pints a night but buy a pair of shoes and you are crucified.}

All hail the Wig, could be the best bit of business done this summer by jose in keeping him, now he has a specified role he looks different class, never going to be a flair player, doesn't need to be, the way he sits between the cbs and neutralized the danger was top banana, no nonsence like the shampoo and conditioner he uses! -just a side note, i like the way watford's doucoure went about the game, might be worth a chheky bid?

Shappy-if you asked any villa player if they'd take terry back, they'd bit your hand off for him, on a footballing level, i hate to say it, he'll make a brilliant manager, and that you can take to the bank.

As a person, he's marmite, BUT, when he went to villa 99% didn't want him, but fair play to him, he got the defence organized, improved the attitude of the players and got them playing for the jersey rather than trundling along, he also brought a calmness and reassurance as well both on and off the pitch, and not to be ignored was how he helped the younger players realise being a professional footballer is a privilege not an entitlement, so yeah, he could do a job at united but it would never happen i reckon because of his love for chavski and the history with united.
