Accidental send!

Our front four made poor final balls or the finishing was terrible. Lukaku, Jesse and Rashford all had simple headed chances but failed to even test the keeper. We had a few breaks with 2 on 1 or 3 on 2 and failed to execute to the final pass. Mike's lame cross was one of these, but Rashfords pass to him pushed him far too wide.

Miki was woefully bad. His confidence is in ruins, I don't know how he comes back from this.

Second half I don't know what happened, we started badly and I agree that the players appeared to down tools -maybe Jose gave them a few home truths, or maybe they couldn't understand how Miki stayed in the pitch.

I don’t think the point has been made but seeing Lukaku taken off with a head injury like that can have an effect on players. I recall the David Buust injury at OT and the players were subdued after it. Before the anti Jose police jump up and down there was more to yesterday than that but I have seen it where serious concerning injuries have a mental impact on those continuing a game.

4 games, 1 defeat, 3 draws, crap opposition. Lots of reasons but a very poor run right now.

3.) 31 Dec 2017 19:18:34
Between 25 November 1989 and 21 March 1990, under SAF we played 17 league games, lost 9, drawn 6, winning only 2

That’s a very poor run

Happy New Year to everyone.

4.) 31 Dec 2017 22:06:34
Back in 1872 we didn't even turn up to play Red Man, that was a very bad run! Football has moved on more in the past 30 years than the prior 130, so I don't get the relevance of the early SAF comparisons, especially those before the EPL and Utd had recovered to their rightful place.

A place the latest batch of managers are doing their utmost to destroy from the looks of things.

Happy New Year one and all, it's been another hard watch 2017, but hopefully the club will change things early 2018 and we can start enjoying our football like we should given our immense resources and stature in the game.

5.) 01 Jan 2018 10:08:16
Blimey Red Man, I know you think the Glazers are to blame but can you not accept that Jose should be getting more out of the players we have? I don’t disagree with you about investment but Jose is not helping himself right now.

6.) 01 Jan 2018 10:39:07

Firstly I was just pointing out that we have had worse runs.

The Glazers are a major underlying problem to our football club, appears some have forgotten amidst the football woes.

Is it Jose should be getting more out of the players? Or should the players who pull on that shirt be trying a lot harder? There is no excuse for them all not putting a proper shift in and I don’t think they are at the moment. I made this point recently but under SAF players knew they had to perform or be left out or sold, SAF wasn’t going anywhere. We have sacked two and Jose has critics so do the players feel under any pressure, it doesn’t look it. The club gave Moyes a 6 year deal to try and ward that off and it didn’t work. Some players seem to think they are above this hard work. Maybe some are not playing for Jose, but that is letting the shirt down, totally unacceptable.

I think Jose could and should show a more positive demeanour but the players should be motivated to play for the shirt, those that aren’t should get shipped out. If the club get rid of Jose the same problem will occur in 18 months when they don’t like what the next manager wants them to do. Remember most are not Jose bought players.

Tactically is definitely in Jose domain, that is where I think Jose hasn’t been as smart. A central three in midfield releases Pogba but has two issues, first who is the third central midfield player? Herrera seems half the player, not signed a new contract to my knowledge and may have his head elsewhere, so who does Jose use? Secondly that relies upon strong creative wide players depending on how we set defence up. We have Rashford and Martial who seem to be best down the left however are running up too many blind alleys, Mata on the right who lacks any strength or pace. Miki should have connected midfield with attack yet how can Jose be responsible for his appalling passing and shooting this season? The full backs, well we have relied upon Valencia who can’t cross, Young and now Shaw. Jose hasn’t hit on the right formation for the players we have, likely because they are a bit of a mishmash, bought by different managers for different purposes. So I think Jose needs to do better in controlling midfield and build from there. That is where he can get more from the players.

{Ed025's Note - good post that red man..

Reaction to the game yesterday are over the top.

Pogba had an excellent first half yesterday and bossed the midfield. He constantly linked the play across the pitch and from back to front. Mata, Lingard and Miki we fed in good positions and either made nothing of the opportunities (poor crossing/ final ball) or the.

Very few comments on here after an excellent performance. Forget how CSKA played, we played them of the park and were in complete control.

Fantastic away performance where the team looked like a proper team. Delighted.

1.) 28 Sep 2017 06:56:48
There's been very few comments over the last number of weeks to be fair.

It's always difficult to go away especially in Russia. And we dominated the game, it could and should have been even more.

There is a complete sense of confidence around this team at the moment, plays like a 12th man on the pitch.

Really looking forward to every game now.

2.) 28 Sep 2017 07:23:45
Thought Herrera, Matic and Martial (and De Gea! ) were simply outstanding.

3.) 28 Sep 2017 10:16:50
herrera just never stops. I can't tell the difference between his energy in the 1st and 90th minute.

17 Sep 2017 22:25:25
Delighted with the game today. The performance could have been better, but really enjoyed the spirit they showed pushing for goals at the end of the game.

Lukaku's assist showed how clearly he was thinking, even though he was desperate to score in front of the booing toffees. Perfect weighted pass for Miki that looks so simple and easy, except when it is weighted just slightly wrong and the chance is missed or saved. How fitting that Rom was then rewarded with his goal, the football gods were smiling.

Rash had an off day. It will happen. I would push Martial in for the next start and give rash.

1.) 17 Sep 2017 23:11:48
Sent by accident!

I would give Rash the role of coming into the game on 60 mins. Martial, Rash, Lingard, Mata will all push each other all season for those two wide forward roles. Great development for the younger players.

2.) 17 Sep 2017 23:21:31
Brilliant game brilliant result.

Didnot c us winning that by 4 goals again.

Over the moon with us so far.

17 Sep 2017 00:49:26
Huge game tomorrow. Forget Rooney Lukaku returns. We have to show that we are not willing to give up the top of the table without a fight. I hope the players show a bit of fight and pride and go for some goals towards the end of the game.

The way city are playing I would hate to let them over take us by playing out a boring 1 nil defensive display.

I am not for one minute suggesting that Everton will be a walk over, or indeed that we will demolish them by more than a 4 goal difference. But I would hate to see us simply sitting back and not going for the kill on a weekend when City have raced past us.

So you would drop Matic and play Blind in holding midfield. Give your head a wobble.

Van Nistleroy was pretty handy. Denis Law could finish a chance or two.

How many swap deals have you heard of outside of suggestions on this site (Ronnie) and football "rumours" pages of papers? Unlikely.

No he isn't redtash, that is heresy! People on here know much better. There are so many free top top top players available this summer. We need to sign them all and then Griezmann is the world class cherry on top. If they don't sign who we think they should then it is Woody or the Glazers who should go.

Jesse's performance at Arsenal will have given him food for thought. Maybe we can press high with a few players and cause some chaos amongst their back line. Worry is that Matic and Ander would have to play out of their skins.

The motivational piece is way more important than formation. Win your battles all over the pitch and you'll get a win.

I agree with your list Ken except for Rojo. Left footed centreback, before this latest injury set back he was playing well. I also think he is a good shout for left CB in a three if we go with that formation change.

I think this squad is desperate for a Toni Kroos type midfielder and a right winger who can make something happen. I still think Alexis is that guy and let Martial and Rashford duke it out for the left Wing/ Lukaku cover roles.

Our fullbacks are also a weakness. TFM or Tuanzebe for rb, need a leftback to compete with Shaw.

Beast, what are you even arguing? Mctom is exceeding expectations of what is expected of him in this squad. He is still developing and will get chance to do so.

Will he become first choice CM for utd, only time will tell. But history says it is very unlikely.

But don't mistake that statement for how important he is to our squad today as 5th choice CM. I don't understand why you are choosing to single him out. Steady at all things, master of none is ideal for 5th choice backup. Not noticing his weaknesses amongst mature and proven EPL pros is ideal for a young 5th choice at the beginning of his career.

It is not his fault Carrick and Fellaini have been injured, that Herrera has switched places with his lesser known (and less able) twin brother and that Pogba has fallen ill or out of favour with Jose.

If you call someone who supports youth players a pipedreamer then yes I am, thanks - I'll take that as a compliment. Every young player doesn't have to go on to serve MU for 20 years to have an important place in our history. Think Wes Brown at rightback, Phil Neville and Nicky Butt in CM, John O'Shea in every position. These players ARE invaluable, no matter how much you seek to devalue their contribution.

It's a good sport betting against youth players coming through. History tells you at the big clubs you are likely to be right 98% of the time.

Mctom is behind Pogba, Matic, Carrick, Fellaini and Herrera. His role in the squad is clear, he is very much back up to a raft of proven international players. When called upon he has done superbly. We cannot have a world class international standard 5th choice player when Jose plays with two in midfield.

Added to all of this, he has just grown about a foot in the last year or so, so it stands to reason he may still be growing and developing. From what I have seen I am happy for him to be that 5th choice squad player.

If Fellaini and Carrick leave at the end of the season then they both need to be replaced with a higher standard. I don't think anyone is arguing anything else are they?

Very confusing Beast. You would love to give youth a chance, but here's a kid who has come in and looked completely unphased with the step up and you slate him and judge his entire future career after about 300 mins of first team football. What a class act.

Lukaku was excellent, yes he got service, but he also made the passes with his lead up play and movement. Excellent finishes.

Mctom looks totally unphased by the step up. Our squad needs young players like him who can step into the biggest occasions unphased.

There was a lot lacking today, not least composure on the ball from mike smalling, but Rom and Mctom were certainly two highlights for me.
