Massive game today, the ground will be absolutely rocking. The atmosphere intimidating. We simply have to get a result. To lose confidence going into the next three games would be very difficult to turn around.

Chelsea and Arsenal seem to be self selecting out of the top four. We do not want to invite them back in. Three points please Jose.

I would obviously like us to win but I am not sure I agree with you about confidence. We seem to be a different team home and away, we can be poor away from home then come back to OT and play like a different team, each time this season we have struggled in an away game we have won the following home game, very strange but it does seem to be the case.

3 point tonight's and top 4 is sorted imo .
Lift the doom and gloom of last week.

3.) 05 Mar 2018 18:38:23
Nothing surprises me. A narrow win a confortable win a draw or defeat are all entirely possible. Thays tje nature of this team at the moment.
I agree that going into the next 3 games with momentum would be preferable.

Accidental post!

Utd chel and arse have all struggled to get individuals to play better than the sum of their parts. This means that those teams are very reliant on key players form, and individual brilliance. Sometimes this is just team confidence, utd certainly looked much better pre the Liverpool away game. Here's hoping we can get that swagger back.

03 Mar 2018 17:43:31
I wonder how much worse our team will be by the end of the Liverpool match.

Interesting read down the page about the city and utd managers and teams. Very clear to me that the utd platers are not playing well in combinations as a team. City, Liv and Tot all seem to have cracked that, utd, Chel and Arse.

Bailly only makes the bench. Would have been a huge game for him to make his first game back. We need Smalling and Lindihop to play very well at the back.

Can Mctom and Pogba prevent the 3 attackers from becoming isolated? Can they link together like they know they are team mates? Would be a great game for Sanchez to show us he is a top level player.

Accidental send!

Our front four made poor final balls or the finishing was terrible. Lukaku, Jesse and Rashford all had simple headed chances but failed to even test the keeper. We had a few breaks with 2 on 1 or 3 on 2 and failed to execute to the final pass. Mike's lame cross was one of these, but Rashfords pass to him pushed him far too wide.

Miki was woefully bad. His confidence is in ruins, I don't know how he comes back from this.

Second half I don't know what happened, we started badly and I agree that the players appeared to down tools -maybe Jose gave them a few home truths, or maybe they couldn't understand how Miki stayed in the pitch.

I don’t think the point has been made but seeing Lukaku taken off with a head injury like that can have an effect on players. I recall the David Buust injury at OT and the players were subdued after it. Before the anti Jose police jump up and down there was more to yesterday than that but I have seen it where serious concerning injuries have a mental impact on those continuing a game.

2.) 31 Dec 2017 16:28:50
4 games, 1 defeat, 3 draws, crap opposition. Lots of reasons but a very poor run right now.

3.) 31 Dec 2017 19:18:34
Between 25 November 1989 and 21 March 1990, under SAF we played 17 league games, lost 9, drawn 6, winning only 2

That’s a very poor run

Happy New Year to everyone.

4.) 31 Dec 2017 22:06:34
Back in 1872 we didn't even turn up to play Red Man, that was a very bad run! Football has moved on more in the past 30 years than the prior 130, so I don't get the relevance of the early SAF comparisons, especially those before the EPL and Utd had recovered to their rightful place.

A place the latest batch of managers are doing their utmost to destroy from the looks of things.

Happy New Year one and all, it's been another hard watch 2017, but hopefully the club will change things early 2018 and we can start enjoying our football like we should given our immense resources and stature in the game.

5.) 01 Jan 2018 10:08:16
Blimey Red Man, I know you think the Glazers are to blame but can you not accept that Jose should be getting more out of the players we have? I don’t disagree with you about investment but Jose is not helping himself right now.

6.) 01 Jan 2018 10:39:07

Firstly I was just pointing out that we have had worse runs.

The Glazers are a major underlying problem to our football club, appears some have forgotten amidst the football woes.

Is it Jose should be getting more out of the players? Or should the players who pull on that shirt be trying a lot harder? There is no excuse for them all not putting a proper shift in and I don’t think they are at the moment. I made this point recently but under SAF players knew they had to perform or be left out or sold, SAF wasn’t going anywhere. We have sacked two and Jose has critics so do the players feel under any pressure, it doesn’t look it. The club gave Moyes a 6 year deal to try and ward that off and it didn’t work. Some players seem to think they are above this hard work. Maybe some are not playing for Jose, but that is letting the shirt down, totally unacceptable.

I think Jose could and should show a more positive demeanour but the players should be motivated to play for the shirt, those that aren’t should get shipped out. If the club get rid of Jose the same problem will occur in 18 months when they don’t like what the next manager wants them to do. Remember most are not Jose bought players.

Tactically is definitely in Jose domain, that is where I think Jose hasn’t been as smart. A central three in midfield releases Pogba but has two issues, first who is the third central midfield player? Herrera seems half the player, not signed a new contract to my knowledge and may have his head elsewhere, so who does Jose use? Secondly that relies upon strong creative wide players depending on how we set defence up. We have Rashford and Martial who seem to be best down the left however are running up too many blind alleys, Mata on the right who lacks any strength or pace. Miki should have connected midfield with attack yet how can Jose be responsible for his appalling passing and shooting this season? The full backs, well we have relied upon Valencia who can’t cross, Young and now Shaw. Jose hasn’t hit on the right formation for the players we have, likely because they are a bit of a mishmash, bought by different managers for different purposes. So I think Jose needs to do better in controlling midfield and build from there. That is where he can get more from the players.

{Ed025's Note - good post that red man..

Always felt Tuanzebe shone more than TFM that season. He had Hazard in his pocket one game when playing at right back if I remember correctly.

We are definitely underdogs for the league, Liverpool have quite the head start on us.

{Ed025's Note - absolute non-hopers rather than underdogs i would say DB, that ship has well sailed im afraid mate..

Get a grip guys.

Last week we out played Chelsea at the bridge, should have won but for two terrible conceded goals, one 6 mins into injury time.

Wednesday we had a flat performance against a very good Juve team.

It is a long season, yes, top 4 looks very competitive this year, and we have started on the back foot. But doom and gloom mongering will only worsen the situation.

He is actually best suited to the inside right forward role in this team. He has done some of his best work running wide right and stretching the defense. His crossing from there is pretty good.

The only redeeming feature he has as a target man is that even the defenders don't know which way the ball will bounce off him. For his size, he is awful with his back to goal.

I think his role is an impact sub now.

This article was so good it was posted twice!

Wouldn't disagree with much of that Ed. I think a little harsh on Mane, first 8 or so games of the season Salah was struggling and Firmino was struggling to score (but working hard) . Mane was the one doing the business and one of the main reasons Liverpool are where they are.

Allison and VVD have made a huge difference to a perennially porous defense.

Robertson and Trent-Alex have been excellent at fullback. Not many would have them in there EPL team, but there have been spells when I think they were both in with a shout.

Big test for this team now is do they have the bottle for run in.

{Ed001's Note - I agree on Mane but Salah's presence enabled him to score the goals as teams were double marking him. Sorry it was posted twice, not sure why that happened, Ed033 put it up for me as I was watching the footie, so must have altered something and it reposted the link when he did it.}

I would hate to see Liverpool get there first title in 30 years as much as anyone, but please let's not spend the rest of the season battling for 4th and celebrating City winning (another) title over Liverpool.

We would all love to be where Liverpool are in the league, it smacks of jealous desperation to cheer for our city rivals getting one over on them. City are themselves creating a dynasty that could put ours to shame if we don't get on with the rebuild.

Focus on ourselves. Improve our performances and continue good results and leave the scousers to implode and pray they both go sideways and someone else (super Ole?! ) Makes a late comeback win to avoid what is frankly a sickening 2 horse race.

Koullibally ticks a lot of boxes if the scouts feel he could play well with Lindelof. Good ball player, tall and dominating in the air, LCB and left footed. I haven't seen enough of him to judge how well he would transition to epl or play with Lindelof or bailly. But the little u have seen he looks a possibility.

Alderwereld has played plenty of games for Tottenham at LCB and been outstanding. Don't agree at all that he is exclusively LCB. He would be my choice, but no doubt Levy would find a way to screw us.
