Ronaldo signed new 5 year deal according to Marca

GB62

1.) , Marca : Cristiano Ronaldo extends his contract with Real Madrid until 2018. He will earn €17m/season.

Ronaldo denies this at a press conference -

#RONALDO "It is not yet solved my renewal. Maybe later we know something more concrete"

2.) Conflicting Reports here, another source have quoted Ronaldo as saying he has not signed anything and now is not the right time to talk about these things.

3.) If you read the full article in Marca, nothing will be officially announced by the club until 17th August, which if the deal had been agreed by both sides seems a bit of a long delay. I'm not reading anything into that, just stating the facts.

4.) Cristiano Ronaldo's future at Real Madrid is unclear after the former Manchester United player refuses to confirm reports that he has agreed a new five-year contract with the club.

Marca reports that the 28-year-old has tied down his future at the Bernabeu until 2018.

But quoted in AS, Ronaldo told a press conference: "The situation still hasn't been resolved and I don't think now is the right time to talk about it. Perhaps we'll be able to give more concrete news about this further down the line but now the only thing in my remit is to train and work. "

5.) Marca just doing the weekly 'Ronaldo will retire here, he's signed a new 5 year deal' rounds at the moment.

They've been trying this tactic since the window opened along with Perez, and Ronaldo had to come out and state he hadn't signed.

Which he will be doing again this time.

6.) But ronaldo has nice again denied it and says he's not sure on the future

7.) Already seen the interview, he said - nothing has been resolved yet but now is not the time to talk about it, maybe something more concrete will be revealed soon.

Ozwald

8.) He has said he is staying at Madrid.

9.) According to Marca Real Madrid rule the wold with Emperor Perez. Pointless paper.

Really interested in the 94v99 debate. I have to say from a personal viewpoint I think 99 were amazing, although there is little to choose between them. Now if ever there was proof that there are lies, damn lies and statistics it is that they each had around 21 full internationals in the squads, which is the roughly the same as the current squad.
Scary!

GB62

1.) '94 team couldn't play most of those internationals in Champions Leavue though because it was before rule changes for non homegrown players. Who remembers seeing all of those wonderful players in the stand against Barca?

2.) Add 08/09 into the bargain - Rooney, Ronaldo, Tevez, Scholes, Giggs, Evra, Ferdinand, Vidic. I'd say that was the best.

3.) Just my opinion I think the 08 team was better than both. Ronaldo gave that team the edge for me, I have loved watching Keane and Cantona who were the stars of the others teams but Cristiano has been our single biggest match winner since Best. Plus rio n Vidic in their prime were our best combo in the Fergie era.

4.) Gotta agree with Fresh n Fess, 08 team was full of great players.

5.) To add my two pence 08 was the best team had no weak areas really maybe right back but noting else

Looking at the squad we currently have, there are too few top class players.
RVP, DDG, Rooney, Mata are probably the only ones who are established.
Add to that the undoubted potential of Januzaj.
The rest have all been found wanting last season, either through injury, lack of proper management, they are/were past their prime, or just that they are not good enough.
It must be hoped that a number of the younger players step up this season with a more inspirational manager, but there are no guarantees. The middle of the park was neglected by Sir Alex due to the fact that he could rely on Paul Scholes and Giggsy for so long.
It will need substantial reinforcements to mount a serious challenge or the title.
Having said that, a fit and firing RVP makes a big difference, you only need to see the impact of Suarez on Uruguay, or Liverpool come to that.
Let us hope that as soon as the world cup is out of the way, we see some movement, otherwise top 4 will be a distant memory.

GB62

1.) Agree 100%, GB. Outside the four you mentioned and the potential of Januzaj as you said, the rest are touch and go whether they even deserve to still be here or not. I do still have high hopes for Rafael & Jones mind you, but both went backwards under Moyes so we just have to hope LvG can get better out of them to fulfill their potenial. We have a lot of squad players, which is fine if you have 8/9 of your starting XI nailed on as your best, but we have four, five at a push. That's why we need minimum four new signings who will improve the starting XI, not the squad. This would hopefully bring out the best in those squad players to improve and fight for a place. If not they shouldn't be here. Ideal scenario for me would be Hummels, Shaw, Vidal & Sanchez coming in.

2.) GB62 - The scary thing for me is that two of those you mention do not seem to fit a LVG system. I trouble to see Rooney & Mata being first choice if LVG is focussed on the system rather than the player as people suggest. So that leaves us with a keeper and then a striker that is very injury prone as our top class talent. Worrying.

A review of the situation we are in.
A number of players who are past their best,
Evra, Vidic, Ferdinand, Giggs, Valencia, Carrick.

A number of players who haven't reached their potential or are not quite good enough
Young, Nani, Cleverly, Rafael, Welbeck, Hernandez, Kagawa, Fellaini

A number of players whose injuries have limited their effectiveness this season
RVP, Fletcher, Evans, Jones, Smalling

Add a manager who didn't quite match up to the task and you end up with 7th place.

Of the various players mentioned, I suspect only only Rafael, RVP, Kagawa, Jones, Smalling, Evans, Wellbeck Hernandez and Cleverly have a future in the first team as either regulars or squad players.
This makes the task facing the next manager immense!
Whoever takes over needs time and money! I think DM was sadly out of his depth, although I would have liked him to succeed.

GB62

1.) Cleverly should be first out the door. Terrible player. I'd pay for his taxi myself

2.) I second that. ill help pay the taxi fare ouyta Manchester altogether

"Always look on the bright side of life . "
I did until yesterday, now the men in white coats have just arrived to take me away!

GB62

1.) Cheer up GB i'm sure things will improve. This season is a write off but we'll be back again of that i'm sure. Sometimes, we have to go through the bad times to appreciate the good times!

2.) This weekend has been very bizaare to say the least. United humiliated at home by Liverpool, then Nomid comes on as the voice of reason! The first point I almost expected, but the second? Never saw that coming. lol

3.) I surprised myself Betty! But don't worry, the old person in me will soon come out and start talking rubbish!
We got beaten by a better team, management and tactics yesterday, so you have to hand it to Liverpool and move on.
