Rashford, martial, Shaw, mctominay, maguire and possibly fernandes and de gea will be surplus to requirements come end of season if eth is given the chance. these players have no ability to work in a system and think they are protected by the board as proved with past managers.

De Gea for all his problems, does have games where he makes saves no one else would. I would still keep him. Mind you any keeper good enough doesn't mean he would settle at United. So many keepers have come and failed here under the pressure and yet gone on to have decent careers. I would be letting go of De Gea for 2-3 years.

Martial unlike McTom, Rash, Maguire etc does have all the ingredients to be a decent player, it's the work rate and attitude that's missing. There have been numerous times when he's been treated a bit unfairly too imo, and gets twice as much stick even if he performs to similar level to Rashford.
He lost his shirt to Zlatan, he lost his place to Alexis Sanchez that terrible signing, a few bad injuries and Ole also shinning him the moment the goals dried up. There's a player in Martial but like the Pogba situation who knows when that will come out.

This squad I think is 2 years away from greatness. next season is ole's test, I think we should give him a chance, guardiola started from nothing now look at him, although I'm still not convinced he could dominant or rise to a proper challenge from us.

Joeyored

1.) 01 Mar 2019 06:44:58
Another ‘test’ for Ole?
Looking forward to watching him pass this next one.

Guardiola didn’t start with nothing by any stretch of the imagination.
He started with Puyol, Messi, Xavi and Iniesta to name just a few. We don’t have a player close to those 4 right now. They were on another planet.

2.) 01 Mar 2019 17:30:35
I think he might Guardiola wasn’t a pedigree manager but Barcelona gave him a chance and he blossomed.

What a player casimero is. He has been What we have been looking for. He will keep eth in a job.

1.) 30 Dec 2022 08:58:51
Still not sure why he took the plunge on us, but I'm not complaining. We haven't had a player like him for a long time.

2.) 30 Dec 2022 09:29:51
He will keep ETH in a job? What a bizarre statement.

3.) 30 Dec 2022 10:07:36
I think ETH is keeping ETH in a job.

4.) 30 Dec 2022 14:04:49
Well with the young French duo that Real signed I think Casemiro was told his time was going to be limited.

United were probably one of a very few teams willing and able to pay the wages he wanted and the fee Real wamted.

And yeah totally agree that Ten Hag is clearly a big improvement on the last few years, he doesn't need help to keep his job, he needs help by people listening and following his guidance and not whatever it is we've been doing for the last 10 years. I am very hopeful that Arnold, Murtagh and Co (can't bring myself to say Fletcher as I still have no idea what his job is to do) have realised this.

On the subject of Touchameni and Camavigna, Real have been linked and I have to think that they are going to be awfully hard for Bellingham to turn down if the come in strong, frightening to think of those three in the middle for the next decade.

5.) 30 Dec 2022 15:08:19
I will also have to admit to being wrong about Casemiro, I said something along the lines of I wasn't sure if it was wise signing a 30 year old that hadn't played in a pressing system before and we should be looking not to sign Casemiro but the next Casemiro.

After the years on Midfield dirge at United I am glad we got this Casemiro, and now he's our Casemiro.

6.) 30 Dec 2022 15:58:51
I think there were a few opinions that snowballed and became the go-to observations on a few transfers. Martinez is too short to be a stormtrooper, let alone a Premier League central defender. Casemiro is too old and too slow to play in a ten Hag system. We don't need Eriksen, we've got Bruno. All I can say is I'm glad ten Hag gets to make these decisions and not us!

7.) 30 Dec 2022 22:12:40
Amen to that spenno.

8.) 31 Dec 2022 10:29:37
I think lost of us would be happy though that if we scouted 804 Right Backs we wouldn't have xome up with AWB!

Is gakpo better than rashford or shows the potential of ganarcho. He's not needed.

Joeyored

1.) 27 Dec 2022 04:01:10
I agree Joey. A winger that's a make shift forward, sound familiar? We have too many of them types of players already. He's obviously a talented kid but we need a proper striker. Shappy did a great write up last week on the subject. The fans shouldn't get too disheartened just yet.

2.) 27 Dec 2022 08:52:49
Gakpo is a very talented player who I think will do very well at Liverpool. That said he has played 90% of his minutes at club level on the left wing.

It was always said that he could "do a job" as a CF. Or that he might develop into either a CF or a CAM over the next couple of years.

We need a striker and EtH said in his press conference "We are aware we lost a striker, so I think we have to get a striker in, but it has to be the right one, ". That final line I think is telling. It has to be the right one.

While Gakpo is a fantastic player, I don't think a single United fan thought he was the ideal perfect signing for what our team needs.

So it looks like the club decided to keep their powder dry on this occasion. As they would have known about Liverpool's interest all along seeing as Gakpo and EtH share an agent.

3.) 27 Dec 2022 11:33:07
Gapko is a quality player who wanted to join us but no bid went in for him.

We needed Antony more than Gapko in the summer although I think Gapko is a better player, but play on opposite sides.

I also think Antony was a poor signing and should've went for someone else for that amount, he's not direct enough and is a one trick pony and not on a level or will be on a level as Robben was. I think Malacia is a poor signing also but for money couldn't pass up the opportunity.

I think a player like Kane or Vlahovic would be the perfect ST for us not.

We still need a RB, CM and ST.

4.) 27 Dec 2022 12:57:02
I think CF then GK are the two pressing positions although CM and RB aren't far off!
I can see all sides of the winger/ CF debate, it's good to have a fluid interchangeable selection of these players but at the same time I'd love to see a proper predominantly central player tearing it up. Gapko has obviously been a target all along but in the past 6 weeks Garnacho has given EtH proper food for thought, maybe even forced him to shift focus on a slightly different profile player.
I don't know who this player is, Vlahovic could have been but it seems a messy loan/ obligation type of deal like Felix would be.
Erik's a smart realistic guy, he'll know he can't get every name he bands about and will have alternatives. The de Jong and Timber alternatives haven't worked out too bad.

5.) 27 Dec 2022 17:29:49
Gakpo is quality, Liverpool spent big on Diaz and Nunez with Diaz playing the same position as Gapko. I find it baffling we haven’t pulled the trigger on a £35m deal. He would cover LW, CAM and ST for us, we probably have way more requirement for this type of player than Liverpool.

Typical decision by us in the modern era I guess.

6.) 27 Dec 2022 18:18:04
I’m not to concerned with losing out on Gakpo. He wasn’t really a signing that got me excited and although in todays market, £35M is not a lot, I think we could use that money elsewhere.

I know he had a good WC but based off of that we should be signing some moroccan players.

I see statements such as it’s embarrassing we’ve lost out on him but I wonder how serious we were. ETH has known Gakpo for many years so they would have some degree of a relationship and I believe they have the same agent. We opted for Antony ahead of Gakpo in the summer knowing we couldn’t get both. And if Gakpo was really interested in United he’d have waited til next summer and I’m sure that’s a convo parties would have had.

From an outside perspective, it’s seems a strange move for Liverpool who I think are crying out for CM’s with Henderson, Thiago, Milner all the wrong side of 30 and Fabinho knocking on the door of his 30’s and with a few injury problems. If they don’t secure champions league I’d be surprised to see Bellingham move there in the summer.

I can see us going the rest of the season with Antony and Pellistri for RF, Rashford and Elanga for LF and Martial and a youth player, McNeill maybe as CF depending on Sancho who’d come in for Rashford at LF and Rashford moving centrally.

If Enzo Fernandez was plucked in January we could could see Fernandes used as a false 9 with Casemiro, Eriksen and Fernandez behind him. Ten Hag used Tadic in that role for Ajax and I think he used it once this season with Eriksen (which didn’t quite work) but shows he’s not opposed to it.

7.) 27 Dec 2022 18:31:34
If you want to win the league you need game changers from the bench, and real competition. Jota and Diaz have long injuries and they are playing star striker Nunez from the left. Looks like Klopp has learned from the CB fiasco a few years back and decided to make a move for a young and highly versatile player. Smart move.

I would like to see a real striker come in, who has a nose for positions in the box and can score with his head. That is what we really need, whether from the bench or straight starter.

8.) 27 Dec 2022 18:34:32
Rewz, we don't need a good cover/ squad player.

We need a first choice, top class striker who both prefers and plays his best through the middle.

That isn't Gakpo who is a top class wide player.

Personally I think the last time we seriously considered Gakpo was before we signed Antony who I believe was EtH's first choice.

9.) 29 Dec 2022 00:53:14
Dodgy, Klopp learnt so much that he is after backup forwards whilst ignoring a Midfield that's needed remedy for three seasons in each window. In that time he's signed Jota, Dias, Cavalho and now Gakpo. Meanwhile his starting midfieldneeds replacements.

Singing Left sided forwards whilst continuing with an underpowered MF, seems like Klopp has simply learnt the Man Utd way for the last 10 years!

10.) 29 Dec 2022 14:30:56
Oakbark. I read an interesting article on the behind the scenes changes going on at Liverpool. Michael Edwards has already left, Julian Ward is leaving, Ian Graham the data scientist too apparently, and Mike Gordon is stepping back. Maybe their decision making will not be quite so good in the future.

08 Aug 2022 03:04:45
It's reported eth implementing his brand of football starts slow and causes serious criticism because of results. Will we see different after 6 months? I don't care, we have to stick by the man and give him serious patience. We know the players who aren't good enough and have been backed over previous managers. I forsee rashford, martial, Shaw and mctominay.

Joeyored

1.) 08 Aug 2022 06:16:10
After a week, we face Liverpool.
If we play like yesterday, things will get even worse.
The players need a slap on the face for their poor attitude.

Mediocrity will dwell in if we don't react in the transfer market soon.

2.) 08 Aug 2022 07:23:53
I don't think these players are coachable.
I remember in earlier days we used to take advantage of the big pitch here but lately it's beginning look a problem for us.
These same guys looked better in pre season and then they performed like this today. They are nothing but bottlers.
Rashford, Maguire, Shaw, Fred, McTom and even Bruno these days now. None of them have done anything to warrant a start for 6 months now.
Maguire basically said I and Martinez will get better next game.
He has no fear of getting dropped.

Next few weeks really crucial for Ten Haag, if the results pick up, people will forget, if the results don't pick up and he keeps playing the 6 players I mentioned, it won't be long before his job could be in danger.
Personally to me watching rashford, Maguire, fred, Mctom is unacceptable. These lot don't know anything than sit in a low block and play on the counter.
If Leicester are going to sell Fofana, I would call them to chuck Maguire back to them for 30m or get tielemans.
ETH has gone and placed trust in these lot, and now he needs to come out and say I'm the boss around here and drop 6 of them to the bench.
It's a cancer mentality that Maguire thinks he's dead certain to start next game.
Win or lose Brentford ETH would get instant respect in my eyes if he drops a few of them.
If it was me, I'd play like this
De Gea
Dalot Varane Bailly Malacia
Martinez or Garner (as DM)
Donny Eriksen
Sancho Ronaldo Garnacho.

3.) 08 Aug 2022 07:45:10
rohan. it isn't you and the arrogance to think we can just "go and get" players from other teams is astounding. I get your frustration but your theme is always to crucify and if ETH were to do as you suggest I know you will be the first on here with the crucifix at the ready.

None of us know what is going on behind closed doors on the recruitment and coaching front. Give it time. Be frustrated but come on, it's the first game of the season. Glass half full is better than yours half empty and with a leak. Knee jerks gets us nowhere.

{Ed014's Note - how many times is this same shit going to repeat itself before you stop describing it as knee jerk?

4.) 08 Aug 2022 08:18:20
We need two proper wingback 2 mids and a striker. Not going to get them all this window but will get there. So much noise here . Martinez was terrible imo and had his a…ss handed to him by welbeck off all people. And even though people like to thrash mcguire, i thought he had a good game and best out if the back 4. Shaw and dalot are very average. Both good swuad players as back ups.

5.) 08 Aug 2022 09:24:14
Fizz, how is this knee jerk?
I didn't once complain about Lisandro Martinez because I know he just came in and hasn't even had a proper look in. PL is a different beast and I know he will need 6 months before he's settled.

The 6 players get the unconditional no matter what they do, they won't get the drop love.
Rashford is getting better is a load of crap. Did you see Dalot after a corner when he cut inside and a decent effort to the goalkeeper? I bet you if you play Dalot LW he will put Rashford to shame and he's not even a forward.

Rashford, Maguire, McTominay have done nothing for ages to warrant a starting spot.
Fred, Bruno and Shaw have been so poor. Fred did redeem himself a little but that's his ceiling.

I usually target these 6-7 players because they are simply not good enough and yet cannot be benched.

I see so much hate for Ronaldo, when he was the bright spark even though he's hardly match fit.
Until and unless these lot are not benched we won't go anywhere.

There is a reason Ralf played rangnick over rashford, who was literally frozen out. Elanga works hard and track back and there's always a chance he'll make that run and not be caught. Limited player but I'd have him over rashford.

I would reiterate the Maguire quote where he said I and Lisandro will get better next game. He's sure he will start the next game.

I think Conte was strong enough as a character to drop them.
Ole didnt, Ragnick did it partially and ETH I hope will do it sooner rather later.

6.) 08 Aug 2022 09:30:40
Fizz behind closed doors nothing is going on that is pretty clear

We got malecia because another team agreed a deal, Martinez was a timber alternate and we have been chasing a player that doesn’t want to come for 3 months

We are left with 1 striker that doesn’t want to be here
McFred still playing in the midfield
And defenders that are pants
Put that with a keeper who cannot play simple passes and you have a disaster waiting to happen.

All while in the mean time the clubs we need to close the gap too have been signing players to make them pull away.

Another manager lied too.

7.) 08 Aug 2022 09:56:52
Rohan, B0lg3r2. Yesterday I posted:
“ 07 Aug 2022 22:11:23
I saw today what I’m sick to the core of seeing because I’ve seen it for way too long now. Almost asking the question if there’s been a break between seasons because today looked like a continuation. ETH has a serious job on his hands to turn this shower into winners. We need to trust in his judgement and support him but the board need to back him to the hilt. ”

So I get it. I see and feel the frustration we all feel. But to consider even for a moment that as many as six players can be binned and we can just “go and get” players from other teams is arrogant and naive. To consider that can be done in a single window is just a nonsense. That’s what I meant by ‘knee jerk’. But if the likes of Ed014 wish to jump on that single phrase without reading the full post and other posts such as alluded to here then crack on. It will, with the best will in the world, take time. It will certainly take more than one transfer window. As long as these present owners are in place it will take ever longer. We aren’t the attraction we once were.

8.) 08 Aug 2022 11:25:35
Fizz we could have easily got 6 players in, we knew back in may when ten hag left his role at Ajax EARLY by the way what we needed.

We knew we was losing players on frees

But look at the state of that squad

How many have spurs just got in for conte?

We only got forced to get malecia because Lyon agreed a deal or I don’t think we would have bothered and maybe because he was cheap.

Although I like Martinez he was a timber back up

And this de jong saga is turning into a pantomime

We are banter fc and the glazers will not leave until the money stops coming in but us fans love the club so will always pay the money.

07 Aug 2022 23:08:04
I hope eth is given time. He needs a minimum 3 year to have any chance. These players have run every manager out the club. It's time the manager has a fair chance. Mistakes will be made but its time the man in charge takes control back and has the complete backup of the board no matter players commercial value
Joeyored.

Joeyored

1.) 08 Aug 2022 01:38:10
Agree but if the players don't put in a real effort then ten years won't be enough time.

I do think in one sense we need to lift the team. Booing hasn't helped their confidence levels and its obvious that they lack confidence and are scared of playing the football they should be capable of. Yet having said that if we do show our displeasure by booing maybe it will help ETH to get the new players ne needs.

2.) 08 Aug 2022 06:13:42
The decision makers haven't backed Ten Hag.
A free signing, a backup left back and a defender is all he has got in a shambolic window so far.

We look under-prepared.
The lack of desire in the first half was unacceptable. We need change in personnel asap, else these players will hang ETH dry.
The decision makers must react instantly and get players in before more pressure adds on.

3.) 08 Aug 2022 08:20:32
How do you know ge has not been backed. There is no god given right that we get players who have many top clubs chasing them and for various reasons decide to go elsewhere.

The argument I have with lfc fans is they are Leicester in disguise when they won the league, no competition, LFC have no rivals while the elite are rebuilding, where are there competition they ain't competing against the 08 Barcelona or the Ronaldo years of mufc, mourinho years of Chelsea, maldini and pirlo of AC Milan or even the invincibles under Wenger, hope LFC, Leicester FC is put put into perspective, joeyored.

You just sound bitter Joey like you’ve got to belittle something. This current Liverpool team would give any of your previous teams a good run for their money.
