A few positives from the game.

Good to see De Gea has his Spain performances behind him, has gone back to being Superman for Man United.

Bailly was fantastic, made some super last ditch defending and really shut them down. We NEED him to stay fit. Our best CB.

Shaw was fantastic, it looks like he's trying to redeem himself; hope his good start continues for a longer period than the last time out.

Pereira had a good game, not over the moon but a decent performance from him.

Fred had a good competitive first game for us. A few mistakes but that we can overlook at this stage.

Pogba was head and shoulders above the others, in my eyes he enjoyed the added responsibility and was trying to transition from midfield to attack. Didn't look unhappy as the media claim him to be.

The front three - Not anything positive to say about them, Rashford was isolated upfront and couldn't to much on his own. Sanchez was playing as if he had a blindfold on. Couldn't pass, run, cross, got everything wrong. Finally Mata - Nice guy but not a winger. No pace at all and completely lacked the final ball on the night. Every time we were able to get him on the counter he chose to pass back to either Fred or Pogba.

All in all a positive first result as it's all about the points from here on. I don't think we'll outplay many teams this season.

Agree with that mate pogba looked liked he relished the responsibility.

2.) 11 Aug 2018 10:18:37
I can only hope things carry on as they are.

3.) 11 Aug 2018 11:47:52
Mata's final ball was ok for Shaw and Sanchez made our goal and two of our clearest chances. It's those moments he is in for. Can he do better - yes but if he's making at least one clear cut chance per game (like Lukakus) then I'll be happy.

4.) 11 Aug 2018 11:50:06
But Pogba didn't dance after the goal.

5.) 11 Aug 2018 13:36:56
I thought Sanchez did ok too.

A few good passes, worked hard, set up a goal.

Can he do better, probably.

Will he do better, probably

All in all a good win.

Defence looked shaky at times, but I think Bailly and Lindelof will make a good pairing.

De Gea made some great saves.

Midfield was ok, Fred played quite well. Andreas looked good and Pogba at times was imperious.

Mata is too slow, Rashford looked tired.

Shaw, man of the match for me. I hope he can carry on last night's form and he reach his true potential. It was good to see him bombing up and down the line.

Overall, happy with the result, although my expectations were quite low.

Their goal was a bit of a calamity though.

I'm not blaming anyone in particular; there's a whole lot of factors at play. Owners, board, manager, maybe even us the fans. but it seems like it'll be one long season, not one to look forward to. We might even have our manager walking out by December.

What's the worst we've finished. seventh? I think we aren't THAT bad though.

That's Darmian's off to Juve then. I don't know if Sandro is coming this way just yet; Ronnie could've changed his mind.

Have you seen it confirmed K?
Not surprised but good luck to the lad.

Good morning guys

We can't be changing Sterling for Vardy and Alli for Dier while leaving Rashford and Loftus Cheek on the bench when we need to WIN the game; Kane and Vardy are similar in that they both want the ball played into feet. Worse still is having a midfield of Henderson and Dier. What was that? Did he think that Lingard would do the running alone? Seriously, use that against a better team and they'll thump us. Please get the message to Southgate; When a game is poised such as the last one, you need to bring in pacy and creative players who can increase your lead rather than rest on your laurels. Just my two cents.

Kenyanredevil

{Ed001's Note - Vardy doesn't want the ball played into feet, he wants it in behind to run onto, completely different thing.}

1.) 04 Jul 2018 07:54:37
Hi Ed001, That may be the case but he still lacks genuine pace / dribbling skill to take him past defenders; maybe the odd one.

{Ed001's Note - pardon? Have you ever seen Vardy play? He is one of the paciest players on earth. He is almost purely about pace.}

2.) 04 Jul 2018 08:03:35
Kenny. You answered your own question. Apart from Lingard, England do not possess a creative midfielder. Instead of dier, i would've taken Wilshire, as he's the only english midfielder who can create something.

3.) 04 Jul 2018 08:06:41
Perhaps I haven't seen that from him then, I remember when he messed us up under LVG in Leicester's 5-3 win but other than that I haven't been so keen - Fair play to Southgate then? Though I still think playing him and Kane without any creativity behind them doesn't do much for the team.

{Ed001's Note - how have you not seen his pace? That is almost all his game is. I can see the thinking behind what Southgate did, but it was a mistake, he would have been better to try and keep possession and play out time as Colombia were awful.}

4.) 04 Jul 2018 08:12:54
AAA, I have gone through the final 23 squad severally to try to identify creativity; unfortunately you're right; England doesn't have creative players like Pogba, Silva, etc. If Mata was English he'd have certainly made the team.

Ed001 - Agreed, exactly my point.

5.) 04 Jul 2018 08:16:27
The dier sub was understandable as he wanted to protect the 1-0 lead, didn't work on this occasion but better managers have tried this and ended up giving up the lead. For example mourinhos fascination with bringing on john obi mikel on to protect a lead in his second spell at chelsea.

Dont see any problem bringing vardy on late in the game. Either him or rashford against a tired defence is going to be useful for the team with their pace.

6.) 04 Jul 2018 08:59:56
Jeez, and I thought we won.

7.) 04 Jul 2018 09:38:25
Were Kenya playing last night?

To be fair if the only time you have seen Vardy play was in September 2014 it's not really a surprise you don't know much about him.

What a night, what a win, it's coming home!

8.) 04 Jul 2018 11:54:23
I agree with you the subs unbalanced the side, and i would have done the same replacements as you. But vardy is a greyhound, the ball is the rabbit draw your own conclusion.

9.) 04 Jul 2018 11:57:34
That was fantastic.

Vardy for the last three seasons - hit the ball in behind the defence and I’ll use my pace to run in behind and score.

KenyanRD - that sluggish Vardy just wants ball to feet.

10.) 04 Jul 2018 12:47:11
Wilshire would probably be on crutches by now so wouldn't add anything. Alli an Sterling were awful and gave nothing. Subs were understandable at the time. They didn't work. Colombia were awful and weren't interested in playing football.

11.) 04 Jul 2018 12:05:41
Dier had a shocker when he came on, all he did was give the ball away and foul. Really struggled to get into the pace of the game.

But then he tucked away that spot kick and all is forgiven, could have kissed him!

12.) 04 Jul 2018 13:07:44
The only problem with the subs is that they were too late.

We were getting kicked in the middle of the park and needed to add the strength of Dier and / or RLC earlier on.

Vardy or Rashford again was the right call but it was 20 minutes too late. Sterling should've been subbed much earlier.

But we won so who cares! IT'S COMING HOME!

28 Jun 2018 12:55:06
Love him or hate him, you'd rather play with him than against him! The Big Fella.

Kenyanredevil

1.) 28 Jun 2018 14:40:04
Is that the reason why no one else wanted him?

2.) 28 Jun 2018 14:51:44
Kenyan are you for real. I bet once the teams are announced the opposition players are ponying there pants at the world beater Fellaini. He should of been shipped out years ago along with other dross we have.

3.) 28 Jun 2018 14:52:55
I like him, pleased he's staying.

4.) 28 Jun 2018 17:50:03
A list of players I wouldn't want to play against would include Duncan Ferguson, Joey Barton, Dennis Wise, Vinnie Jones ect.

I'm not sure that being an asshole who elbows people rather than trying to win the ball should be a key attribute of players we look to have in the team.

5.) 28 Jun 2018 18:08:40
Not sure anyone said that shappy.

I think he's a good player and would be a nightmare to play against. 10 mins to go and seeing a lump like fellaini come on. He's difficult to defend against.

Not sure where all the 'asshole' stuff came from.

6.) 28 Jun 2018 19:03:05
Asshole? Really shappy?!

Glad he's staying and he soets move on.

7.) 28 Jun 2018 20:01:45
He can be very snidy with those elbows is where shappy was going. He may be a handful but its not what I want to see on the pitch. If we fixed the plan a do its more effective we wouldn't need a lump as a plan b.

8.) 28 Jun 2018 20:10:01
His is a United player . The lack of support tho.

9.) 28 Jun 2018 20:56:58
The same support you gave ibra jred. You Spent 18 months knocking him. You Moaned and were very vocal against it when he got a new deal the same way people are doing with fellaini even though jose wanted him.
People are entitled to their opinion on fellaini same way you were with ibra .

10.) 28 Jun 2018 21:58:09
Ibra done great first season Ken, not the type of player I wanted pal but done really well.
But I told u the second contract was a favour .
Same as I told u Jose wanted the wig .
Should maybe listen.

Thanks a lot Ed, at least we have an idea of transfer targets. It's a bit disappointing though that we aren't focusing so much on RW/ RM/ RB.

Not much positive coming from Mourinho's latest press conference then. For the last few seasons we've been playing second fiddle to at least one or two English teams at different points in time - Mostly being Man City and Chelsea. After the changes at Chelsea we don't know how they'll adapt and the direction their football will take. However Man City still look as strong and Liverpool are getting stronger. Diogo Dalot and Fred don't seem like enough to compete, but let us hope for the best. There's about 3 weeks left in the transfer window.
