Hi all,
Thanks to the Eds as always.
Ed's do you any info on the Fred transfer? Did we end up signing him?

Enjoy the game tonight all.

KingGiggsy

{Ed002's Note - Obviously he won't be joining before the end of the month.}

Hi all,
Thanks to the Eds as always.
Interesting reports starting to appear, personally the Arnautovic rumours I find ridiculous but I hope Willian happens in terms of where experience can be added. Fred would also be an excellent signing IMO. At CB I wonder if we can expect to see someone coming in, what are people's thoughts on that position specifically?
Ed is there interest in Arnautovic from United or is this the media being thrown a bone?

Hope everyone has an excellent Summer (when it arrives) .

KingGiggsy

{Ed004's Note - There is interest in centre backs. Ed2 a few months ago mentioned Umtitti and Upamecano as targets and most recently Alderwerield is gaining a lot of attention. I disagree with William as I feel we need better quality. Would like Fred to sign and if there's any truth in thiago being available we should be all over that Lastly, I can't see Arnautovic happening at all}

1.) 31 May 2018 23:49:44
Rather take a punt on bringing Memphis back than sign Arnautovic.

2.) 01 Jun 2018 08:47:05
Thanks for the reply Ed - Toby is the best CB in the league IMO but we have barely seen him play this year. Would be a fantastic signing. We’ll have to agree to disagree with Willian mate, I’m a huge fan. Thiago would be an incredible signing, top top player.

Hi all,
Thanks to the Eds as always.
Norwood has spoken, 48 hours time.

KingGiggsy

1.) 20 Jan 2018 21:01:03
Isn’t this the third 48hrs this week? :D.

Spenno,

This one is right though, welcome Alexis.

Merry Christmas to all, thanks to the Eds as always for the site.
Brilliant transfer rumour circulating this morning regarding Eden Hazard, Eds can you shed any further light on this one yet?

KingGiggsy

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any approach by Manchester United to Hazard's agent and I can confirm that there has been no approach to Chelsea about the player from Manchester United.}

1.) 20 Dec 2017 11:36:24
I think as the window opens it is good to always use this method before asking the Ed’s questions.

Does it sound too good to be true?

Yes - then it isn’t true, don’t bother asking.

No - it’s still probably not true, but there may be a small chance so worth asking.

2.) 20 Dec 2017 16:43:09
I thought Hazard and Señor José didn't get along?

3.) 21 Dec 2017 00:33:11
Let's be realistic why on earth would Chelsea sell their best player to an English rival its not like they need the money so it's not going to happen. Please think it through and don't waste Eds time and goodwill.

4.) 21 Dec 2017 12:38:06
People said Jose and Matic fell out. Doubt they'd make the mistake in selling to us again though.

5.) 21 Dec 2017 17:51:43
Selling Matic wasn't a mistake. Neither was Mata's sale. Selling Eden would be a mistake though. But there's no way in hell he's moving to Manchester. If he moves it'll be to Madrid.

6.) 21 Dec 2017 20:40:43
It seems like a mistake pal. You finished top last season. What position you going to finish this one?

7.) 22 Dec 2017 06:33:52
Probably top 4. At least we should get top 4. But not winning the league won't be because we sold Matic. It'll be because there's a certain team that's gone on an insane run of form. Matic isn't the one we miss.

8.) 22 Dec 2017 14:05:47
When utd played chelsea jose slapped hands with almost every chelsea player coming out of the tunnel except hazard.

Hi all,
Hope everyone is well.
Thanks to the Eds as always.
This is beginning to be Sneijder part two but there are loads of rumours flying around this evening regarding Bale and an imminent bid from United. Ed002 thinks there could still be more to come in this window. Ed has Bale's situation changed at all and is a bid actually going to go in for him?
Cheers.

KingGiggsy

{Ed002's Note - At this point in time I am not aware of his situation changing nor Manchester United making any approach.}

1.) 29 Aug 2017 08:14:09
Thanks as always Ed.

Hi all,
Thanks to the Eds as always.

I thought José proved a point against Arsenal and is now realising what his better options are moving forwards. A front 3 of Rashford, Martial and Lingard was way better than anything else I've seen from us this season. Jose then played Lukaku and Pogba late on who should have been fresh but were completely static. It was also brilliant to see Bailey back and in a back 3 he looks even better.

Hopefully this now kick starts a decent run for us with some more fluid, active performances.

KingGiggsy

1.) 07 Dec 2018 19:52:32
I agree, but bringing on Fellaini to play right wing was 5X more disruptive to our attacking play than Pogba.

2.) 07 Dec 2018 23:14:05
I’m not on the Fellaini criticism bus, Nathaniel. At least he does what you’d expect and he has had an impact for us over the past two years. Lukaku and Pogba need to stay out of the first 11 for me and perhaps even the squad. Front 3 for the next few games needs to be the 3 I’ve mentioned.

3.) 08 Dec 2018 06:05:09
KingGiggsy I don't think we are going to see the 3 in front you want for much long as our great leader thinks unlike sterling lingard and rashford can't improve on their finishing as they are not good enough. Then people wonder why players don't perform well under him, some really motivating lines there, nothing gets the best out of your player as publicily calling him not good enough even after a good performance.

4.) 08 Dec 2018 11:50:24
He has played rashford more than any other player forward over last 18 months csm.

5.) 08 Dec 2018 12:04:31
Where did I say he isn't playing rash enough ken, what i posted are his own statements made pre fulham game where he was asked after he talked about lack of goals from utd whether sterling is a good example of improvement that can be made in one's finishing for rashford and lingard and his response was its not about the hard work but about having the natural quality, if that isn't manager calling his 2 players who are working hard for him not good enough then i don't know what is.

6.) 08 Dec 2018 14:01:11
Do you think longard and rashford have the same natural ability as sterling?
I don't think they do. I would even say the 2 players in question think they do.
Their records suggest they don't.
They are different sort of players rash is inconsistent but that's natural for a young player. Sterling was more inconsistent too when at the same age.
Jessie has not got 50% of sterlings natural god given ability but has other very good attributes.
I don't see what your point is. Not everybody is a snowflake.
Sterling was heavily criticised by pep in the early days and was for sale as per 002 but showed good character kept quiet and improved.
He now delivers weekly. Rash will do the same if he works hard and listens to his coaches.

7.) 08 Dec 2018 14:29:10
Hands up how many of us laughed when City bought Sterling.

8.) 08 Dec 2018 17:14:14
Ken you are seriously saying that sterling was somehow a genius finisher that poor rashford and lingard can't ever hope to emulate. Sterling wasn't anywhere near as good a finisher and the question wasn't on ability it was a straight forward question whether rashford and lingard can learn from sterling that with hardwork you can improve your finishing, sterling was rubbishty finisher if you and nowhere near as good as he is today, but sadly mou worshippers can't see anything beyond all hail the God Emperor and anything contrary to that is a strict no.

Also please show me where Guardiola had as many digs at sterling or any city player for that matter as Mourinho has had at ours.

Hi all,
Thanks to the Eds as always.
I've really enjoyed reading the site over the past 2 weeks. Ed002, a special thanks to you for providing more info on the EW JM situation - that is exactly the type of clarity people really appreciate and love the site for.

In the eyes of the owners, who would be the person (s) of fault here? Is their football knowledge savvy enough? Is it possible that EW could be sacked and JM given more time to work under DoF? I would love to see JM given another year at the club with a much improved setup in terms of support.

Cannot remember the last time I looked at a United lineup and though 'this looks like a winning side'. Tonight, I like what I see (provided it is a diamond in midfield) . Famous last words?

KingGiggsy

1.) 01 Dec 2018 19:29:41
I suggest a visit to the specsavers.

2.) 01 Dec 2018 19:34:49
Hahahahhahahha joke right? At last we got a point against a very top team.

3.) 01 Dec 2018 19:55:22
Are you for real a woeful starting 11 and it didn’t disappoint.

4.) 01 Dec 2018 19:58:44
I'm amazed. Matic, fellaini, pogba and Herrera in midfield? Predictable result.

5.) 01 Dec 2018 23:19:22
We played against the team second from bottom in the table today, they scored 4 goals all season.
Now Jose turns up with Manchester United and guess what he plays 5 at the back and concedes a goal in the 13 minute, enough said.

6.) 02 Dec 2018 13:48:04
Love all these responses - thanks all.
In my slight defence, I viewed the lineup as a 442 with a diamond in midfield. With Lukaku and Rashford up top, and Pogba playing on the lift side of the diamond, I was expecting a decent performance yesterday. Silly me.

Hi all,
Thanks to the Eds as always.
I've just watched the 2016 match away to Chelsea again in order to gain some perspective. Now, Jose synics have to take a back seat here because the team he inherited couldn't defend. The job he has done since coming in is superb IMO and I'm not basing this on the one game but this was the biggest defeat we suffered at that time and so it's a fair bench mark. I recommend all the fans watch it again and although it's not been the best start to the season I believe he will get it right. If he is still our manager come the start of next season, I'm going all out here and saying we'll be serious contenders next season. Let him get the squad right over the next two windows, the balance between youth and experience still needs some work but we are much closer than the current league position suggests.
3 points on the south coast tomorrow.

1.) 03 Nov 2018 06:30:26
I’d like a pint of what you are drinking 😃. I admire your optimism but I don’t share it. Last year we finished runners up with the second best defensive record, conceding only one more goal that City. Our issue was at the other end where we didn’t finish teams off.

Under SAF I remember losing 5-0 to Chelsea, and Newcastle, and losing 6-3 to Southampton, so picking one game doesn’t really work. Whether it is Jose’s fault, or th player’s fault, we will be lucky to make top 4 this year. To finish runners up and then start as we have this year suggests something is amiss, a couple of shiny signings won’t change that.

Lukaku looks disinterested, Pogba is likely to leave, Martial is still not signed up, DDG is yet to sign a new contract, Bailey has regressed, not sure where Fred fits in (£50M! ), Rashford has stopped progressing, Sanchez has been an unmitigated disaster. On the plus side, Shaw has been like a new signing, Lindelof looks like he is progressing, Dalot has huge potential, and that’s about it.

Still optimistic?

2.) 03 Nov 2018 10:47:03
We've conceded 17 goals in just 10 games so far this season. 28 in total last season and 29 the year before that where we had this "terrible defence" and on balance played more expansive football. As Jose has continued to put his stamp on the team we've got worse defensively, more pedestrian in attack and spent hundreds of millions in the process. Simple as that really.

3.) 03 Nov 2018 10:50:00
Good post giggsy. Not sure i agree with it all.
Good poost ajh but i'm not sure i agree with it all.
Im not quite as negative as you.
Its been a poor start to the sesson no doubt about that. But in recent games there has been some positive signs in a couple of areas.
I think we have shawn good team spirit and fighting attitude
Shaw as you said has continued to improve. As have martial and pogba. We have attacked more and this shows that jose has changed tack a little too. He has been more tolerant for sure with certain players they, the players and coach, appear to be working together a lot more as a result. We were a little unlucky to lose a goal in the last kick against chelsea so we can at least compete against the best in the epl when players work as he wants and when he is more tolerant and loosens the reigns a little.
Matic and lukaku are in poor form. For sure. Rash has been uninspiring i'd like to see sanchez get a few games up top and think he is more on the wavelength of mata and martial in terms of his pass and move ability.
Lukaku looks jaded perhaps the wc has caught up with him a bit and i also don't think he links well with martial and the stats tell you that,

Its difficult to say exactly why the defence is so poor compared to last year but you have to remember that last year neither full back attacked at all. This year shaw is and we are a little more exposed and young also tends to get more advanced on the right as a result our cbs and matic have had less cover than last season. Also ddg not been at his best perhaps the wc rattled him a little too.
I think fred is settling in quite well i think he continues to improve every time he plays.
If we win today we can go into the city game with some confidence.
Assuming juve don't batter us midweek of course😁😁
I see some changes for the better from the coach recently i see some changes for the better from certain players recently too. that's brought us 2 wins and a hard fought draw away to chelsea. If results continue to be good then i see a thawing of tensions and perhaps even a little more comprimise from coach and players alike

It does feel a little like we are half way up the hill all together looking up rather than down at the momemt.
It also feels to me a little on a knife edge as if results and performances don't keep momentum going forward then both coach and players will point the finger at each other, and we will be back to square 1 again.
Finally i don't care which players want to leave i only care about what they do this season while they are here if they all shut up and give 100% every time they play and don't disrespect the club the fans the coach and their team mates then that's all i'm concerned about until the summer.
The press appear to have aborted their witch hunt for the time being but that will only last until the next defeat.

4.) 03 Nov 2018 14:38:42
Excellent post Ken.

There really is 0 way of pleasing some people. Juventus hadn't lost at home prior to last night in 12 matches (all comp) . They have also reached the CL final in 2 out of the past 4 years. In a response to a recent post of my own, it was suggested that I was overly optimistic regarding the current side we have but I fail to see how anyone can be anything but delighted with the sides performance following the result last night. The reason Herrera stood out for you is because of the job Matic and Pogba did in front of him. If you can't be anything but positive after a result like that, I wonder if you ever can be. Personally, I am delighted with continued improvement the side is making under JM and I think we'll beat City at the weekend. Try and cheer up, mate.

DW20,
Your post sums up the issue here perfectly - opinions like the one you have.
Stop thinking papering over the cracks is the answer, the changes that need to be made are well above the teams manager. Jose may not be the manager we want long term but before we ‘twtist’ again substantial changes need to be made at board level.
I’m not a Jose fan, but surely it’s for all to see that changing the manager AGAIN will just postpone this situation from arising again?

Hi all,
Thanks to the Eds as always.
This is getting all too familiar. Bad result = complete melt down amongst fans. 6 players made their 1st starts of the season today and for the majority of the first half we played some exciting, purposeful football and Lu Lu Lukaku should have put us ahead. We looked leggy in the second half and Spurs’s finishing was top draw - even if defensively we were put of position. Fair play to Spurs for nailing their first result away to us for years, shame the game wasn’t later in the season from our match fitness perspective but I thought tactically we were right last night. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the problem isn’t Jose, it’s EW.

Ken,
I think January will provide an indication to the Summer. If JM is allowed to spend and sell then I don’t see him going. If little happens in terms of the transfer market in Jan I’ll agree.
