Allegri has just said that after speaking to Vidal that he's happy to stay.

"Vidal will stay here and he's very happy about this," Allegri said. "I spoke with him about his fitness, we're happy he will stay with us."

Vidal has even posted a pic with the other teammates saying "ready for next season"

Trying to find a way to still be optimistic!

1.) 29 Jul 2014 17:07:05
It didn't say ready for next season only we are ready, but that could be anything, of course he will look as if he will still be with his team mates incase the deal falls through.

2.) Wouldnt expect anything else tbh

3.) Seem, s to me that Woody has done his business early to get a reprieve from last years debacle. I'm thinking that he won't buy anymore players, as Van Gaal is he'll bent on proving he can make a decent team with what we have right now. Shame I know as we def need a couple more big signings, but Woody has promised the earth once again and failed up to now. But people have bought the new kits already so why should he care. I know there is four weeks left and anything in football can happen. , But my piles are itching and when they itch, things turn out bad.

4.) From crappy media sources who just want pple to read any crap and provide all other vidal rumours positive n negative from here!

The fact is bid not even been made and it doesn't matter what a manager says!

5.) The only thing I can think of to stay positive is that how many players in the past have said they're happen and then end up leaving?

6.) Stop whining about Woodward not signing players. Van Gaal is assessing his squad and has quite clearly stated he hasn't finished doing so. So therefore no one will be signed until Van Gaal knows who he wants. Its not that difficult to work out.

7.) Who cares!

Seriously, I am so sick of all this.

We have a top manager who knows what he is doing. Let the man get on with his job, and then let's judge. Besides, where would have Vidal fitted in, in the LVG system? Vidal is box to box, and would have to be used in a similar role to Herrera, who I personally think is a better - or will be better - than Vidal.

I have said it for a while that LVG will look to bring in a strong DM type player, as he will look to exploit the clubs attacking talent. A player like Vidal, who likes to get forward, might not work.

8.) Sam, so then why are we trying to sign Vidal? If you want to play a 343, you need two b2b midfielders.

{Ed008's Note - No 1 midfield has to hold like De Jong did for Holland at the World Cup, and the other Herrera does multiple roles dictating play and box to box if Vidal were to sign I think you'd see a change in tactics maybe 433 instead.

9.) Ed, Holland use De Jong, Strootman, Blind & De Guzman in midfield. In the WC Holland played a 3412 and both De Jong and De Guzman sat behind Sneijder and were both taking in turns getting forward and both stuck a foot in. De Jong stayed back mostly agreed, but I think Herrera & Vidal would work very well in midfield as both can attack and both can get stuck in. I think LvG wants Hummels who would push up into the midfield.

{Ed008's Note - I know and did you see how the 2nd midfield next to De Jong played? De Guzman/Wijnaldum played very well in those roles dictating play aswell as joining in attacks, if LVG went with Herrera and Vidal midfield Mata would have to work very hard like Sneijder did in helping his midfield.

10.) What do you make of the Cavani interest Ed? If MU did go for Cavani, would you think Rooney or Mata would do best in the hole?

{Ed008's Note - I only know of Chelsea interest unless another Ed has mentioned something about it, I think both players would do well playing in the hole off the 2 strikers it just comes down if the player in that position is disciplined enough week in week out, Mata has done very well in pre-season in that position so far.

11.) 29 Jul 2014 21:57:08
To be honest Syd, I am not overly convinced we are going to push the boat out to sign Vidal. Maybe some informal offer was made and that offer was rejected, so the club have decided not to get involved in a protracted transfer drama?

I wouldn't put money on the guy joining us. That is just the way I see the situation at the moment.

12.) A Darren Fletcher quote on Ander Herrera, post the LA Galaxy match;

“I thought he was fantastic, he was full of energy and endeavour. He changed his role in the first half, he played a little deeper, then in the second half he went into a more advanced role with some great assists and he got about the pitch. I think he is going to be a fantastic player for Manchester United. Hopefully there will be more of the same from him.”

- To those who have not realised it yet, we have already seen Ander Herrera employed in advanced and deeper roles in preseason. I spent time explaining I expect to see Herrera in the deeper position described by Shappy's post, - in the event Vidal is signed. LVG it appears, has already illustrated Herrera will fit a deeper role. I also stated I would expect to see Herrera rotate between positions due to his multiple talents, - if Vidal is not signed. This seems accurate so far.

Despite the discussion of Vidal vs Herrera in the box to box role last week, one thing we should all acknowledge is that Shappy's post prior to the world cup seems to be outdated. In light of LVGs new tactics in the world cup (where 3 centre backs were introduced, ) it seems the other roles, like the midfielders, have also changed. LVG has further still modified his formation in preseason by employing 2 strikers and no wingers. The truth is that its difficult to say what LVGs long term ambitions are with regard to the formation he wishes to use. The evidence we have to go on in the last 2 months has only made the situation more difficult to predict. - At the moment i'm not even sure there is a box to box player. That may be because it is preaseason. Players are learning new roles, and gaining fitness. I have not however seen anyone bombing up and down the pitch in the games we have played so far. Personally I think we will have to wait a number of months until we get an idea.

The only thing that does seem obvious is that if we really are in for Vidal, then LVG will have an idea of how he will use both Herrera and Vidal in the midfield. He is the one in control of approving players on the signature list. If Woodward has the green light to sign Vidal, its obvious LVG will have anticipated a way to use them both.

13.) Sam, perhaps you should read the editor's posts. We are very much in for Vidal. Whether we get him is another matter, but we want him. If you are going by what you are hearing from local journalists then know that they are not being fed any info from MU this summer.

14.) We need vidal he is so talented he could play the holding role with ease so for a lot u thinking it'll he won't complement Herrera he can do it all in midfield and I would feel much more confident if he was in the centre of the park

15.) Ed. Is it significant what's been said this evening by the Juventus manager? Obviously the reports United have verbal agreement are wide of the mark as that's clearly not allowed!

Thanks for your time

{Ed002's Note - It is what I said it is. There can be no verbal agreement with the player - that would be tapping up.}

16.) What if United have an option on Vidal?

{Ed002's Note - But they don't obviously.}

17.) I really think that this Vidal deal is a long shot and the media, having been given very little by both clubs or the player's agent is only shooting in the dark hoping to hit the right spot.

There may have been some sort of a broad verbal agreement with the player's agent before making an offer to Juventus though.

Haha, I have a little conspiracy I thought of.
Say if ADM does move to PSG and we all know he's always had his heart set on joining them. I'm thinking maybe PSG couldn't go for him last summer due to FFP. That the two may have spoken to discuss the situation and came up with solution that he joins United, doesn't play to his full potential (come on some of his decision making, passes and shooting were absolutely dreadful) and blame it on silly things like an attempted break in and not being able settling in to Manchester. He made no effort in his english classes where Rojo made a comment that all they do is laugh and joke around during classes and people were saying his english has gotten worse, how could your english get worse??? Fast forward one year, United think he's not built up to make it in the premier league and decide to sell him to PSG for a significantly less fee. PSG and Di Maria are smiling and Manchester United are left scratching their heads. But if he stays I guess I'll look like a fool;)

What are your thoughts on 9/11 and aliens? 😀

2.) 15 Jul 2015 11:22:24
I don't know if he'll stay, but that post is absurd from its first letter to its last.

3.) 15 Jul 2015 11:24:32
Your conspiracy theory seems to be a conspiracy theory that you have conspired in order to create some sort of conspiracy theory.

4.) 15 Jul 2015 11:26:29
Bottom of the barrel, eh?

5.) 15 Jul 2015 11:43:38
I have a theory that di Maria was just rubbish last season. If he's willing to stay and fight for his place then fair play, if not good riddance

6.) 15 Jul 2015 12:27:02
Brendan, what are your thoughts?

7.) 15 Jul 2015 13:11:09
Nik,

I think you might look a fool whether ADM stays or not mate lol

8.) 15 Jul 2015 13:42:47
HB, 9/11 brain dead religious nutters, Aliens somewhere in the universe but not walking amongst us :-).

Take it to the conspiracy pages! Therei've saved the eds saying it :-)

9.) 15 Jul 2015 14:29:55
Fair play Brendo. You're wrong about 9/11 tho I'm sorry to say 😐 But like you said, take it to the conspiracy page!

I was thinking about it and I reckon pursuing Daley Blind rather then Cuadrado. Now I know they play at opposite flanks but in my opinion LWB needs the cover.

Shaw is a fantastic prospect and I can't wait to see him develop into great player. But at the age of 19 he shouldn't be starting week in, week out. Now people are saying that Young will be able to cover for him, though he is naturally a right footed, right sided player. I know he has had a great preseason but he hasn't exactly set the field alight in his time at United before that.

Now I haven't seen much of Cuadrado and no one really knew of him until the world cup. I reckon he is pro dominantly an attacking player and will probably be a liability defensively. Not to mention his hefty price tag.

Now Blind was named Dutch footballer of the year last year and has worked with Van Gaal do he will know what is expected of him. He will not only be able to provide cover for Shaw but also in midfield and if need be, in central defence.

To me it's a no brainer really. Having Shaw and Blind rotating on the left, Rafael and Valencia on the right and Young able to cover both positions!

Nik Legend UK

1.) With Rafael being named as one of the 6 players that LvG has supposedly informed can leave, I think cover for RB / RWB is pretty urgent.

2.) The problem with that is Rafael has apparently been told to find a new club leaving just Valencia and Young for the RWB position.

Cuadrado is good defensively and is a very hard worker with outstanding stamina. He probably is the best option for the RWB role.

Signing Blind on the surface makes sense but we don't need squad players we need first choice players.

So signing someone to act as cover to positions we have players for rather than signing a first choice player in a key position makes little sense.

3.) You make some good points about LWB vs RWB, and Blind's experience already under LVG. But otherwise, the two are not really comparable. Blind is a defensive player, smart, steady, composed. And Cuadrado is an attacking player with tremendous pace and one v one ability. Very different dimensions even though we are looking at them both for wingback.

Surely with Dortmund closing in on the signing of Ginter, is a good sign that Hummels may be leaving? Or am I clutching straws?

From what I can remember in the past, when we have been linked with a player so heavily as now with Vidal.

Things start off very positive then the media going as far to say that it is a done deal, then it changes to say the deal is off for whatever reason and a couple days after that deal is complete.

I reckon it's the case now, the media sending us through a roller coaster of emotions. He'll be revealed with the new manager this week. I am certain about it! Well have our man.

Nik Legend UK

1.) 15 Jul 2014 15:43:38
Lucas Moura was one :/

2.) You have a very short memory.

I remember a time when Sanchez (before he moved to Barcelona), Lucas, Hazard, Thiago, Fabregas, Herrera (last summer), Strootman, Garay, Kroos, Di Maria, Vermaelen and De Vrij were all 'done deals' according to the press.

3.) 15 Jul 2014 16:24:02
Push your memories.
More than half of city team is made with our certain done deal targets

4.) Yes but most of those players bar Kroos and Di Maria were we as heavily linked with as we are now with Vidal, and those 2 were never confirmed as a done deal by multiple sources.

I reckon the deal will be completed this week and if it doesn't I'll hold my hands up and say I was wrong.

5.) 15 Jul 2014 19:27:00
Sneijder, Moura, Hazard?

If it is true that arsenal have backed off and it is between us and spurs for his signature, then that would be some great piece of business on our part.

We would now be in the driving seat, as the player does want to leave for champions league football and Spurs would not be able to offer that. We could probably get him for a lesser price than quoted.

Say Arsenal did bid and it was being considered we could improve on that bid if we wanted to.

This is all speculation, hoping I'm correct.

Imagine getting Schneiderlin for £18-20mil and Schweinsteiger for £8-10mil. That'd be +-£28mil for two top midfielders!

We would have a midfield 3 between Herrera, Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger and Carrick.
Even put Fellaini and or Mata depending on our opponent and tactics.

I've heard quite a bit about Veltman being the next Dutch CB star. But since de Vrij is the same age and started instead of Veltman in the world cup, surely de Vrij is the better player?

From what I heard, Veltman started playing really well then became sloppy. So is it a case of Veltman is the better player due to raw potential that just needs to developed properly and he is preferred to de Vrij? Or did we lose out on de Vrij due to being overconfident that we would sign Hummels and now have to settle for 2nd best(Dutch CB of course)?

What I just don't understand is why Depay is playing behind the striker, forcing Mata playing out wide. When every man and his dog would swap their positions. Don't get me wrong, they both perform decently where they are played now but Mata with his creative touches, clever one twos and sneaky through balls would excel behind the striker with Depay playing either wide right or left with his pace and skills. It's a no brainer for me and am getting a little fed up with LVG's risky experiments. Here's hoping that it was only experimented in preseason but then I would of liked to see at least one preseason game with the preferred formation and players playing in their respective positions ahead of the Tottenham game. With the qualifying rounds around the corner we need to settled and playing proper football.

If Di Maria leaves which I'm almost certain he will, I reckon someone big is coming in. Like a Bale, Ronaldo or Reus! When the Adidas deal takes over at the beginning of August;)
