With de gea probably going in the summer does anyone else think Romero should be given a chance as number one any time I have seen him this year I thought he was very good.

He has been reliable when called upon and if De gea goes I will be really upset if he leaves. Now I suspect the club would still look for a new no1 but he desrves a chance. He is by far the best no2 gk in the league and possibly in the top 10 of all gk in the epl, which is blessed by great keepers. He still hasn't, I'm my opinion, been thoroughly tested to be given the nod but would like to see him hang around to have a crack at it.

No I think we should spend £85m on Oblak.

3.) 17 May 2017 23:58:30
I read today that psg where considering a bid of about 35m for oblak. So about 2 1/ 2 times that sounds about right for us to pay over The odds 🤣
I response to the opening post I think with the right players ahead of him he could well be given the chance. Spurs and Chelsea are the only teams in top 8 to have a better keeper than Romero imo. He could save the club a lot of money without being anywhere near a weak link. I have not seen anything of Joel Perriera but he is being talked up as an outstanding prospect. So hee could well be the long term replacement for ddg and let's face it Romero can do no worse than ddg did in his first couple of Seasons as no1.

Decent audition tonight from Sergio for sure. I think he's going to be Our No1 next season and that's good with me. Save the £85m or whatever ridiculous price for Oblak for players who can do some real damage at the opposite end of the pitch.

5.) 18 May 2017 01:25:41
Watch the post match interview with Romero . He didn't use the word me until the third sentence. Now compare that to Jones. Romero's comments alone are justification in keeping him at United.

6.) 18 May 2017 05:20:30
So he maybe meant it when he said he wanted to stay at united (.

7.) 18 May 2017 08:17:34
If DDG leaves I would be happy to give Romero a season as first choice and see how he does. We also have Sam Johnstone and Joel Pereira on the books who are both highly regarded.

If he doesn't live up to the standard required we can always look at someone like Oblak for the summer of 2018.

8.) 18 May 2017 08:22:02
He's a good shot stopper but he couldn't catcha cold. People on here have been a little over the top with their praise of him recently. If he was 'that' good another team would've taken him before now.

9.) 18 May 2017 08:33:54
A lot of the saves he made last night were ones he should have done and most competent keepers would have. The reason why Schmeichel was so good and Edwin too is that they dominated the penalty area and really organised the defence. De Gea is the best shot stopper I have ever seen and his reflexes are amazing but he does not dominate his box. Romero is not as good at shot stopping as De Gea nor does he dominate the box. His preference for punching rather than catching balls means that the defence does not get respite at critical times. By catching a cross when under pressure a top keeper slows things down taking the sting out if opposition attacks or can launch a counter attack with a fast accurate throw or kick to our forwards. Romero is solid but I don't think he will ever be a great ke.

10.) 18 May 2017 10:33:20
Don't get me wrong, I don't think I Romero will ever make the top five keepers in the world list.

But we need to appreciate that the best keepers in the world are already at top clubs. Will we be able to tempt the likes of Neuer, Courtois, Ter Steven away from Bayern, Chelsea and Barcelona. Unlikely, Oblak is the only one who is arguably attainable. But for 84m. Or we could spend 50m on a recently turned 18yo in Donnarumma.

I don't see any other keepers currently on the cusp of or close to a sure thing they will become world class. Which means we would then be spending a large fee on a keeper arguably no better than Romero.

In a summer where we need to focus on several other signings I think we can afford to wait a year to try and sign someone like Oblak or Donnarumma. Their price is unlikely to raise much in a year, and that time might give us a better chance of being able to get all the signings we need this summer.

11.) 18 May 2017 11:50:28
With Donnarumma having 12 months left on his contract at AC Milan, and his agent being Raiola whom we've had dealings with in the Zlatan and Pogba transfers would it be possible to have a word with Raiola to say we'll give a decent signing on fee etc. if he moves on a free? I understand that Milan would be due compensation but based on what Juventus paid the club for Pogba this would be nowhere near as substantial as the fee to actually sign him. Not sure whether putting a deal to the agent would be tapping up or not though?

{Ed002's Note - No chance.}

12.) 18 May 2017 12:00:33
I would bring Kasper in if we don't think Romero is the one. He is more dominant in his box, knows the Prem and would constantly remind us of a golden age in our history 😂.

13.) 18 May 2017 12:24:37
We could also sign Brooklyn and Alex Bruce it would be just like old times DB🤣🤣.

14.) 18 May 2017 18:18:19
I really like the look of Pickford and also would not say no to Forster of Southampton. He was immense at Celtics and I think just went off the boil a little this year but I do think he should play for a top top team.

15.) 20 May 2017 11:08:32
If we have to replace ddg and romero this summer I think we could do a lot worse than forster or butland, don't really see enough in pickford right now and kasper seems to lack something. The likes of oblak or donnarumma would cost close to double what the English lads would imo.
