Hi Eds. Assuming that it's just tabloid guff but would Utd be looking at Frenkie De Jong as an option and if so if there a chance Barcelona would entertain a bid?

Many thanks.

RobbieWood

{Ed002's Note - Frenkie de Jong (CM) Tolisso upgrade for Bayern Munich but Barcelona don't want to sell although if a significant offer (perhaps €90M) were made their financial situation would mean they would have to consider it. During discussions between Barcelona and Chelsea, options for a number of players were discussed but Chelsea do not again want protracted negotiations which led nowhere over another player last summer - they may make a take it or leave it offer including a player or perhaps two. Manchester City may provide another solution using Laporte as part of the deal - and don't be surprised if PSG or Manchester United switch their attention to him but both have preferred targets. I would doubt he will move.}

1.) 06 May 2022 11:30:58
Hey Ed, who is United's preferred target? Thanks!

{Ed002's Note - Lazio's Sergej Milinkovic-Savic but not being in the Champions League may well be an issu.}

2.) 06 May 2022 14:51:58
Preferred for CM, but not for DM right (assuming based on prior lists that they are separate considerations)?

{Ed002's Note - This is nothing to do with DM.}

3.) 06 May 2022 12:35:31
Ed, is this an EtH preference of player?

{Ed002's Note - No. The club.}

4.) 06 May 2022 18:29:32
Interesting Ed. I was told that the his agent is just using united to boost his profile in negotiations with Lazio for a new contract or a move to another Italian club on a bigger contract. The club placed that “he wants to go to Manchester” story because they were annoyed with his agent making up the interest.

5.) 06 May 2022 19:13:40
Woukd much rather Konrad Laimer or Haidara than SMS.

6.) 06 May 2022 19:04:06
Sergej would be very expensive option. Do u think we might go after Neves or Tielemans, they would be cheaper.

7.) 06 May 2022 19:08:05
Thanks Ed. Can you explain?

{Ed002's Note - I don’t know what you mean.}

8.) 07 May 2022 06:53:24
Surely this would mean another mistake made by the club? Signing a player that isn't the preference of the manager?

9.) 07 May 2022 07:01:04
How can the club and the incoming manager has separate transfer targets? Surely this compromises the manager?

10.) 07 May 2022 09:06:16
We have a director of football and a scouting department, whos job it is to scout and identify targets then shortlist those who suit the style of play the club are looking to implement. They would then select the preffered options and along with the mananger decide the targets. At the moment they haven't done the last part, because our manager is not currently in place however, i would imagine they are "lining up their ducks" so to speak. So that once we have, they can go and make an effort for the players they agree on.

11.) 07 May 2022 10:08:17
Groundhog day.

12.) 07 May 2022 11:22:25
Not really ken, i would say this is the first season our director of football will be truly incharge of these things.

13.) 07 May 2022 13:31:49
Dbrooks I meant the same questions over and over and people jumping to crazy assumptions and conclusions.
All will become clear in good time.

Hi Ed002 if you are around. Any truth as far as you know In The Thiago link for Man U?

Seems like yet another midfielder especially with DVB joining BUT still like to think we look at him given his quality and price. Would be nice to scupper Lpool plans too as he would make them significantly better.

RobbieWood

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any approach nor where he would fit in. He is expensive and there have been injury issues.}

15 Nov 2018 01:17:29
HI Eds if around can you please remind me whether Utd had an interest in David Alaba? I seem to remember something on here a while ago but obviously nothing came of it then.
I'd guess Bayern would want to keep him as part of the inevitable re-build there in the summer but he would be a player I'd love to see at OT.

RobbieWood

{Ed001's Note - yes United have shown repeated interest in Alaba in the past.}

10 Jan 2017 05:06:01
Few articles discussing Rakitic to City then Guillem Balagué said that city don't have a solid interest after all BUT the player was offered to them and would be available.

Wouldn't he be a potential target for the passing midfielder role we all want filled?

Seems odd his name hasn't come up in relation to United when pretty much everyone else's had. Would be a very handy addition I reckon.

RobbieWood

1.) 10 Jan 2017 07:24:34
Who would you drop: Pogba or Herrara? I think we need to replace Carrick as a priority (due to age not performance) . Although Herrara can deputise there, I fear he would be found out (in the deeper role) against elite opposition.

As much as I like Rakitic, I don't think he is what we need.

2.) 10 Jan 2017 07:29:42
We will probably find out in the summer just how much Jose trusts herrera in that position.

Does he think he is the man for the job long term or is he the best man for the moment?

3.) 10 Jan 2017 14:29:48
Herrera is doing well in his current role an him an pogba is working. Carrick is the priority

As for Ballague if he told me the sky was blue i'd go to the window for a second opinion.

09 Nov 2015 03:29:13
Mourinho set to offload the players that are 'against him' in January.

ManUtd to be offered Fabregas for around $20 mill as they need creativity and Mourinho wants rid asap.

RobbieWood

1.) 09 Nov 2015 08:08:06
Why help them out and buy a troublemaker.

2.) 09 Nov 2015 09:12:37
We aren't especially lacking creativity. We are playing the wrong kind of football.

Possession football is inherently defensive, concentrating on keeping the ball, since the opposition can't score if they don't have the ball.

Keeping possession means not taking as many risks, whereas taking more risks not only gives the ball away more often, but also creates more chances, and often more really good chances.

Arsenal have been showing for years that possession football can get you near the top, but not quite there in this league.

Guardiolas Barcelona team was a freak. They had exactly the right set of worldclass players to make it work. Even the current Barcelona and Bayern teams don't try to replicate that, instead focussing on knowing when to switch between pure possession and a more attacking style.

We need LVG to stop worrying about possession so much and let the players take more risks in the final third.

3.) 09 Nov 2015 11:01:27
Fully agree with Thorne but also to add we do need some more pace with end quality.

4.) 09 Nov 2015 11:06:56
Thorne,

The 'wrong' kind or the kind of football you don't like?

5.) 09 Nov 2015 12:20:32
If I was made to choose I'd rather see Herrera play for us than Fabregas also I can't see either playing second fiddle to the other for to long.

6.) 09 Nov 2015 12:53:29
The only player that I would pick from Chelsea would be Hazard. He would add a bit of pep down the wings - he will leave, but for Spain I think.

7.) 09 Nov 2015 12:58:52
There are no risks in the final third unless the team are behaving in a reckless manner .

8.) 09 Nov 2015 14:06:33
Fresh! Really? I would happily take Hazard, Willian, Zouma and Azpilicueta.

9.) 09 Nov 2015 18:10:10
GDS2 - Both.

Arsenal have proved again and again that pure possession football won't work in this country, not if you want to actually win the league.

And yes, it is also the total opposite to the style of football which made me fall in love with Utd around 25 years ago, and which brought us so much silverware.

Now, times change, I know. If we could transplant our best team from, say, the 90's to the present day, I doubt they would be half as successfull. Possession has become more important. However, it is not all important.

When I watch us play now, it looks like the players are afraid of giving the ball away. They don't try playing those through balls and crosses which are not even 50-50, but which could create really good chances if they work.

Possession should be a way of running down the clock or taking the sting out of the game for a while when the other team are building momentum. It shouldn't be the entirety of our game plan.

10.) 09 Nov 2015 18:15:41
I think it might be easier just to offload Mourinho rather than offload the players who are against him.

11.) 10 Nov 2015 15:05:46
Thorne: "Now, times change, I know. If we could transplant our best team from, say, the 90's to the present day, I doubt they would be half as successfull. Possession has become more important. However, it is not all important. "

Deluded and insulting to the teams of the 90's, who would quite frankly romp this league year on year! You seriously telling me that the team of 99 would not have won the league last year! Get real.

What a ridiculous comment!

12.) 10 Nov 2015 16:44:53
No BadRedDevil, I don't think they would.

The team of 99 was brilliant, and it isn't their quality that I think would be an issue, it is the style of play.

Football has evolved. I would suggest that if you took any great team of the past and moved them 15-20 years forwards or backwards in time they would struggle.

HI Ed002 just a quick one if you don't mind. Why do you feel Cavani would be a terrible option for us to pursue?
In the past the club have brought in older strikers (Larsson, Sheringham, Zlatan) on shortish term deals to good effect. I feel this team could use a bit of experience especially with Rashford now out for a while. Is there a question over Cavani's attitude as never seems to come across that way.

Thanks

RobbieWood

{Ed002's Note - He would be a €400k a week starter. Where does that leave Rashford who is only out for a few weeks?}

1.) 22 Jan 2020 10:20:55
Alexis Sanchez part II.

2.) 22 Jan 2020 10:17:28
Ed002, I've seen you say a few times now that Rashford will only be out for a few weeks, yet the suggestion from the club is he might be out for as long as three months. Are the club over egging how long he will be out?

{Ed002's Note - Three months is only a "few weeks" - I am not aware of the club saying anything about three months - that is certainly not what the PR says.}

07 Mar 2019 04:24:32
Amazing night, encapsulates everything the club is about - breaking records left right and centre BUT can we please focus on the big issue here.

How do I get Lukaku into the fantasy team? can't drop Rashford, too scared to drop Aguero (the only feasible option price wise) and Jimenez has ben doing well and again won't raise the funds necessary anyway.

Do I roll the dice on the 2 goal a game machine that Rom has decided to be at the risk of dropping Aguero? Everyone else will keep Aguero in so its a make or beak call for the season!

Arsenal away on the weekend and city have Watford at home. maybe keep Kun this week then bring in Rom next? ?

Help me out here guys, its the toughest managerial decision I have ever had to make.

RobbieWood

1.) 07 Mar 2019 06:52:33
We have arsenal this week, then no game, 2 games and then no game again. so can you afford to have Rashford and Lukaku both on the bench for those weeks. hold fire and bring him in later.

14 Jan 2019 00:25:18
Qn for Eds and everyone really. Do you think there is any way Chelsea would let Kante go at end of season given that Sarri seems to prefer Jorginho in that deeper role. if there is any shot then what an addition he would be.

RobbieWood

{Ed0333's Note - I think if Chelsea let Kante go to United there would be riots on the streets of west London. No chance it would happen.

1.) 14 Jan 2019 05:04:17
I suppose you are right. A nice fantasy while it lasted.

2.) 14 Jan 2019 07:44:56
Thought that about RVP but he turned up. You just never know with football these days. 😆😆.

3.) 14 Jan 2019 11:19:50
Historically Chelsea only sell us players they feel are limited or past it. Kante doesn't fit into either category so I highly doubt it. If he was to be allowed to leave I see PSG as the most likely destination. He would be the player who would lift them into serious contention for the UCL.

4.) 14 Jan 2019 12:16:47
Examples of these historical transfers shappy?

5.) 14 Jan 2019 13:15:06
Mata, brilliant player but limited in a physical league.

Matic, a player probably past his best.

6.) 14 Jan 2019 14:16:23
I think we did better selling them Bosnich and Veron 😆😆.

7.) 14 Jan 2019 17:23:03
Mata was their player of the season and matic far from past it. It was a nonsense statement you picked 2 players they sold us in their prime.
Its agreements kike that you give it about the press making. Its just hyberbole to add weight to your personal opinion.

Football is weird folks.

Maybe we will start well and all the negativity will be gone in a few weeks.

Maybe Mourinho is different internally at the club than to the press etc. very little of what we read has any real foundation.

Maybe other clubs bedding in multiple players or a new manager have a bigger challenge than we do.

Maybe having Fred to free up Pogba will result in better looking, faster football.

Basically as I say football is weird, atm i'm like most of you fearing the worst thinking we can't sign players and its an unhappy camp etc but perhaps its deemed not necessary to sig anyone unless a worldie becomes available. We used to moan about signing too many players that aren't god enough so now maybe we are waiting on a few and prepared to wait. I'm personally OK with that. Toby i Jan as opposed to Maguire now - yep please.

Also how many times has a totally left feirld massive deal happened with no real press run up? . could still happen and if it doesn't well then I doubt the world will end.

Just support the club, the team we have and wait and see what happens. Football is a funny old game folks.

I see the Man City Banter page is bursting at the seams as usual on the eve of their massive Champions league game!

tbf ed, robbie is a utd fan, you can't expect opposition fans to fill their forum, and watching their matches same goes for their stadium.

{Ed001's Note - I know mate, I was kidding.}

Would love to believe that there has been a plan put in place to bring in a DOF in and Poch as manager at end of season no matter what happens with Ole and that he is informed of this and being respectfully treated etc etc however sadly the chances of that being the case are very very slim.

So what / who is the problem then? It sounds like its bigger than the manager but you have consistently denounced Ole on here so you don't rate him for the role and that's probably justified but if the issue is further up than that and its not EW then please advise on who it is and how the structure works that we don't understand. I can't remember ever reading a specific breakdown of how you see the problems and how they need to be addressed.
Of course we as fans don't have the insight that you seem to so if possible could you please enlighten us a little rather than just insinuating that we are in the dark and clueless so may as well not post, give our thoughts or hope for better. If it's a blame culture that would suggest that everything is fine and there is noone to blame but us fans but there clearly is a problem as the decline has been marked in recent years.
I liked Mourinho and agree that he is a top coach. Why though would Poch not be thinking about UTD at all when other top coaches have in the past.

A succinct and easy to understand explanation would be much appreciated and would hopefully lead to less headaches for you answering 'dumb' posts.

Call it an early Christmas present.
