Did you guys see it? Sometime around the 60 min mark.

Valencia swung in a cross with his left foot.

Ruudinthemood

1.) 26 Aug 2017 19:46:12
Why not try his left he whacked it against the 1st defender 5 times in a row then missed the 1st defender but the cross went out for a throw the other side of the pitch😁😁😁 he does play well but his crossing is akin to an u8 schoolboy.

Hit it harder Toni!

Surprised not to see United too heavily linked with Lukaku. His scoring record in the prem is fantastic and he clearly wants to leave. He would be expensive, but not much more than the likes of Belotti and Morata who are both unproven in the prem.

We're clearly after a number 9 and he's young and fits the bill. I see people criticize his record against the big teams, but wasn't it the so called smaller clubs that gave us the most grief last season? Lukaku is young and could perform better at a bigger club, but whether or not Jose wants to work with him again is another issue.

That being said if it came down between Morata and Belotti I would choose Morata at this point.

I think you have just answered your own question.

2.) 16 Jun 2017 22:24:23
He wants Chelsea that's another issue with lukaku.
Morata is not epl proven but imo he is a better all round player. A better link player and and his finishing is good.
He is used to big clu bs and a big club mentality.
He had played the last 2 cl finals scoring in of of then.
He will have plenty to prove but he will get great support from the manager same team mates and the vast majority of the supporters. Hope we can get it done.

3.) 16 Jun 2017 22:35:25
Ill probably get roasted for this but, there's a big difference between being a great player for a mid table club and a great player for a club competing for trophies. Lukaku is a very very good player, but I believe he's still not the world-class striker we'd need to compete for honors domestically and in Europe. Add in the likely price tag and I'm more than fine letting Chelsea move for him.

4.) 16 Jun 2017 22:43:09
Lukaku has been at a bigger club, he was on the books of the current champions for several years. And he failed to score for them.

His goalscoring record suggests he struggles when against better teams as he sees less of the ball and has less support. He scores more goals for Everton against teams of a similar standard or lower, where there will me more tit for tat and the team will be more open and more space. Now we struggled to score against the lower EPL teams last season, because they tended to sit deep and in numbers. How would Lukaku's scoring record change that? He has never proven himself to be a regular scorer against teams that sit deep and in numbers. Very few teams approach their games against Everton and their games against us in the same manner.

I think he would be a decent signing, but not a great one. He would score, but maybe not as many as people would expect.

5.) 17 Jun 2017 00:16:52
Lukaku has the touch of Emile Heskey, but can finish. He is in nowhere good enough to play for Man Utd, and the reported fee of £100m is a disgrace. His first touch and ball control is terrible, and I'd be very disappointed if we sign him.

Morata is a proper footballer, more complete and will compliment our team game as a whole. It's no coincidence that the best team in Europe have an unselfish striker leading their line for the team (Benzema) . Belotti I have never seen play so have no idea what he can bring.

6.) 17 Jun 2017 00:22:55
Needs the service to get the goals, isn't a player than can make something happen individually, proven in the premier league though, I'm happy with Morata, feel he be a good fit, surprised that Madrid are not going to make him their number 9 next season.

Great team display and a few great individual performances by some of the forgotten men at United.

Many people on this site label Young, Darmian, and Fellaini as not being good enough for United but as we've seen with this game against the league leaders, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts and these are great squad players to have in the team.

Thought Rashford and Herrera were also spectacular. Really pleased for Rashford given that he's also been getting some stick on here. Would love to see a strong top four push and maybe even a title race again?

Also, what was Gary Cahill doing on Herrera's goal?

Spot on, great reading on here when we win :)

3.) 16 Apr 2017 19:49:45
Good post, nice to see Jose up the tactics game and get it so right. I read today that opposition goalies have made more saves at OT than any other ground this year, and we have also hit the woodwork more than any other team. I keep saying it, it's fine lines. We have some great players who need a little inspiration and a little luck. There is not a lot wrong with us. If we can get some momentum and a feel good factor kicking in who knows what we might achieve.

I think Young not leaving in China has been a blessing for us, as he's very very good defensively, and is ready to do any job for us, massively underrated, losing his prime and still gives his all.
I think Lingard was a menace today.
And earlier on in the season I wanted Darmian to leave, but he's an asset for us, especially if we play champions league next season, he barely put a foot wrong defensively today and he'll only improve.

It makes me a little frustrated that so many fans seem to have their minds made up about Depay after one season.

He's a young player coming off his first season in the EPL, moving from the much less rigorous Dutch league, and was playing for a manager that suffocated attacking creativity.

Yes he can carry himself more professionally and he should probably accept this criticism. But as far as I can tell, his "lifestyle" has been blown out of proportion by people who want to see him fail. I don't think Depay's personal characteristics are exceptional by most footballer's standards, who typically drive nice cars, have extravagant houses and tattoos, etc in this day and age.

He has shown glimpses of quality and we should be prepared to give him at least a season or two more to prove himself. Especially considering he is one of the few players in our team that fits the mold of an attacker we have been desperately missing.

What if we had chucked De Gea after his shaky first season? Gotten rid of Smalling who's now easily our best centre back? (Not saying much I'll admit) Depay is never going to be Ronaldo. There is never going to be another Ronaldo. But he very well could turn out to be a good player with a little time and faith.

Definitley worth another season in my opinion under a far superior manager.

2.) 08 Jun 2016 00:32:03
Agree with both of you and if it didn't doesn't work we will all know Mourinho doesn't like keeping players for the sake of it.

3.) 08 Jun 2016 07:47:35
Agree on Depay give him a chance. This Bailly seems a raw talent hope he works out, seems pricey for someone with so little experience, still fingers crossed.

4.) 08 Jun 2016 08:39:34
I agree that people are far to quick to judge, but I kind of find myself agreeing with them.

He has had to step up into a much tougher league, and do so under a manager who stiffled his natural game. So from that perspective he should be given another chance.

But his attitude has stunk, and without the right attitude you won't make it at this club. So unless he has a personality transplant over the summer then the writing may already be on the wall.

Also our new manager hardly has a great reputation for nurturing players who think themselves above everyone else. If your not prepared to work hard and sacrifice yourself for the team the Mourinho will send you packing.

Personally I'd like him to stay one more season to see if Jose can perform a miracle and turn him around. I just don't hold out much hope of him being able too.

If he leaves this summer I won't shed any tears, but we would need to bring in a replacement.

5.) 08 Jun 2016 09:42:27
How do you know what is personality is Shappy? He's hardly been in the press behaving badly.

All that he has done wrong is misplaced a pass against Chelsea and was then dropped ever since and forced to play a reserve game the following day.

He owns a Rolls Royce - definitley shows his personality issue. If I was on thousands a week I would own one too.

6.) 08 Jun 2016 10:11:16
Tattooed, flash, Billy Big Boots. Got a big move but wasn't ready. Look at Rashford, celebrated winning the cup by going to Morecambe with his Mum. Delay is talented but needs some serious managing. I hope he makes it but am not convinced he will.

7.) 08 Jun 2016 10:50:12
I think he went to Morecambe with his girlfriend, but i get your point.

8.) 08 Jun 2016 11:22:44
If you were a millionaire at 20 would you not be flash? I don't see what tattoos have to do with it.

9.) 08 Jun 2016 12:00:15
No, Fresh, in all honesty. That's the difference between how the youth are managed in our own academy, and those we buy at big prices from abroad. Not always - Martial seems a level-headed, quiet young man. Our kids are hopefully being made aware just how fortunate they are, and how much the average fan has to pay to go and watch a game these days, hence a wish to not be seen to be throwing money around like confetti. It was why Fergie put so much effort into scouting younger players - their upbringing, family unit etc

Just because you have a lot of money, and act flash, doesn't make you a bad person, but it does give you an insight into someone's personality, and whether or not they've got the drive and dedication to move up a level. Not always, granted - Ronaldo was no shrinking violet.

It's just my opinion, but in a time of economic hardship for a lot of average fans, I think it shows a lack of common sense and judgement, to be splashing the cash, especially when his performances haven't backed it up.

Plenty of reports that Zlatan is close to signing for United. Like most fans I'm excited about him coming to the EPL and playing for our club! He seems to defy age and has quality few other players have ever matched.

However, I am sort of apprehensive about his prospective arrival. A lot of posters have been pointing to the experience that young players such as Rashford and Martial can learn from playing with Zlatan. No doubt his attributes are top quality, but Zlatan has never struck me as much of a role model. He's glaringly arrogant and I doubt he would take to putting an arm around the younger players with much enthusiasm.

Additionally, Zlatan is a fairly static player. He plays the game at a walking pace, which is fine when you have his technical skills and positional sense as well as a supporting cast of quick players moving off the ball for you. I don't see many of those players at United. Often people on this site tend to complain about the mobility of United's attacking players and Zlatan would obviously not help this.

I appreciate that Zlatan is not a long term solution and that his age indicates he wouldn't hinder the development of Martial and Rashford. Whether he would be a good influence for them remains to be seen. In my eyes, a younger and quicker striker who's able to play anywhere across the front seems like the much more sensible option. Rooney will be phased into midfield, leaving the striking options up to Martial and Rashford. Bringing in one player, regardless of their age, would hardly hinder their progress.

Zlatan is a fairly static player and needs runners around him, you are right about that. But then what are Martial, Rashford, Memphis? Exactly those kind of players. Also Herrera, Schneiderlin and Rooney are hardly static and live moving box to box.

I am sure we will be signing a winger and a central midfielder and Jose will add to the pace, mobility and creativity with those players as well. So if the aim is to get a striker who will immediately guarantee goals, is strong enough for the EPL and won't stand in the way of Rashford a couple of years down the line, Zlatan is a perfect fit I think.

As for his arrogance, I seem to remember a certain cocky ba**** who went into games with his collar up, kung fu kicked the sh** out of a football fan and referred to himself in the 3rd person being a great role model and inspirational mentor for a young United side. That wasn't too bad was it? So I wouldn't worry too much about Zlatan.

That said I would prefer to get 2 wingers instead of Zlatan and just give young Rashford the first team spot like Spurs did with Kane but if we are to spend big on a striker then I would go for someone like Higuain, in his peak, constantly on the shoulder of the last defender, runs in behind and an excellent finisher.

I just think that Zlatan being a free agent (although will demand a signing on bonus) will be an overall cheaper and short term signing than someone who would cost a lot in transfer fee and that would allow us to focus our resources elsewhere in areas like right sided winger, central midfield and center back where we need top players.

No pace and walks thro games which is great when u play for psg.
He has played 22 games against english teams and scored 6 goals, i think he will find the epl a bit harder than france.

3.) 04 Jun 2016 12:04:33
Rudd
I think that is a very good post by the way.

4.) 04 Jun 2016 14:08:34
Jred - Bearing in mind that his 22 games have come against the 'top' sides in England; I would say that 6 in 22 isn't too bad. He did also score 4 in 1 game against the national team let's not forget.

This season he scored 3 in 4.

Comparatively Messi has 13 in 22 against English sides - but when you take Arsenal out of the equation it's just 4 in 17.

5.) 04 Jun 2016 15:31:07
Red
So messi has scored 9 goals in 5 games against arsenal . Wow .

Before this season arsenal where the only English club ibra had scored against .
Take away ibra 3 in 4 against our 2 top (poor this year ) city and Chelsea team and it looks a bit worse .
18 played 3 goals in 2 games against arsenal blanks in the other 16 games.

Truth is all the above means nothing but I done think he will find the epl a lot harder than France, I am surprised anyone would disagree.

6.) 04 Jun 2016 16:09:15
Jred -

Messi holds the record for most goals against a single club in the Champions League (9).

I'm not disputing the fact that the French League is easier somewhat than our own; but pointing out that his record in the Champions League and at International level are pretty good as well. He's also scored goals at a decent rate in Holland, Italy and Spain (ie, everywhere he has been) .

I don't think he would score 38 goals in 31 league games in the EPL but can see no reason why he couldn't score 20-25. Giroud's goals per game ratio for Arsenal isn't too far beyond his goals per game ratio for Montpellier and players like Drogba and Henry performed better in England than they did in the French League.

A while since Utd took a cheap risk? How much was that full back we just signed?

Well yes I'd rather have him, but honestly I'd rather have a quality midfielder or two than a prominent striker.

Am I the only one who's not under the assumption that Lewandowksi will sign this summer? I would be very disappointed to see United spending on a high profile striker when our midfield needs addressing. I would hope that at least 1 or 2 center midfielders would be brought in. If Nani goes, which is likely, I doubt Young will also make way. The Baines purchase really doesn't make sense to me. And why would Buttner be out after 1 season? Not expecting a mass clearout.

You might be right about the romanticism, but I think it's worth considering that overall the skill level of players has improved across the board. It's hard to stand out when the entire tier of professional players is faster, stronger, and more technical than it was 20 years ago.

Also, Zidane is maybe my favorite ever player.

Agreed angelred. We're definitely in the minority but Fellaini is a great squad player, puts his head down, and offers something completely different to the team.

I don't want us to go near Bale to be honest. Great player undoubtedly but like you said the price would be very steep, he has had a lot of injuries recently, and I think finding an out and out striker is more important currently.

Fellaini is too often the easy scapegoat. Can't put the shortcomings of a team down to one or two individuals. Some people seem determined to dislike certain players.
