Just putting this out there. What about Adrien Rabiot for the central midfield role.
Very talented with the ball at his feet, great passer and is still only 22 years.
One of my favourite midfielders at the moment.

1.) 19 Jul 2017 11:47:05
I'm not a fan personally, I can see the attraction with his ability on the ball. But he is far too languid whenever I watch him. Looks like getting out of a walk is a big effort and seems feeble as well. I don't think he would suit our league and we are ponderous enough. I love dynamism in the midfield.

Reminds me of Possebon, remember him, haha?

2.) 19 Jul 2017 13:02:47
I think you must of been watching Possebon instead on Rabiot Beast. There's a reason why he gets in the PSG side week in week out and it isn't because he plays like Possebon.
Perhaps your comparing hair styles instead of the football styles?

3.) 19 Jul 2017 13:23:25
I still hope we go after Matuidi exactly what we need someone to control our half of the pitch cover the defence and cover so much ground better than Kante.

4.) 19 Jul 2017 14:51:09
True that Simo, but there are lots of players that play week in week out for top clubs that I don't see the fuss about.

I'd also prefer Matuidi - I appreciate he is older but so what, we aren't exactly great at nurturing talent and we never sell for a profit, so it's short term performances we need. 2-3 years is fine for £35m now imo.

5.) 19 Jul 2017 16:40:37
All about opinions Beast. if I am being honest I don't really rate Matuidi. I think his best days are behind him now at 30 years old.

6.) 19 Jul 2017 17:58:40
Matuidi is absolutely quality. Would be the perfect signing. Gets about and puts a shift in. Ideal mourinho player.

17 Jul 2017 10:33:43
Are we really going to pay 40 million for a player that will be 29 in 2 weeks time?
It's not that I don't like Matic but I think Chelsea will have our pants down with the price.

1.) 17 Jul 2017 10:39:00
Hi Simo,
Don't forget the position Matic plays. He has a good 4-5 years left at the top level at least. I actually think he will still improve over the next two years so all in all in would be a great signing for me. He is a very good player, just doesn't fit into Conte's system quite so well.

2.) 17 Jul 2017 10:42:32
If he plays till he's 40 then its good business.

3.) 17 Jul 2017 10:43:08
That seems to be the going rate atm, City paid 50m for Walker who is at best a good RB with EPL experience. Matic is a far better player with greater experience, while being only a couple of years older.

Transfer fees have gone silly this summer and I don't think anything can be taken from comparing today's transfer fees against any from before, even those from last summer. If teams of Everton's modest current standing within the game can go round dropping we several 30m deals in one window then that really shows you the level of crazy we have got to.

Remember the shock at how much we sold Ronaldo for at the time? Looks like we got ripped off now and not just because of what he achieved but when you consider we sold a Balon d'Or winner for the same amount you could sign Walker and Pickford.

40m for Matic in this window looks very fair to be honest.

4.) 17 Jul 2017 10:56:36
Isnt that how much Milan paid for a 30yr old?

5.) 17 Jul 2017 11:52:46
Age doesn't matter if the player is going to do a job and improve the team.

Look at zlatan for example.

6.) 17 Jul 2017 12:34:25
I'd pay £40 million for a 29 year old Carrick.

7.) 17 Jul 2017 12:44:11
Age does matter in one respect. A good 23 year old might reasonably be expected to maintain or increase in value after 4 years, a 30 year old may not be worth anything at the end of the contract. It won't be the determining factor, but it is relevant.

8.) 17 Jul 2017 12:47:38
Some of the tabloids saying Juve are ahead of us for Matic, personally I don't believe that . BUT if its where he goes, and Dier doesn't look likely, Monaco saying Fabinho not allowed to leave this window . where would it leave us?

Not impressed with Carvalho at Lisbon . wonder if there is a plan D?

I can imagine Jose is anxious right about now over this position.

9.) 17 Jul 2017 12:53:53
Zlatan is hardly the same kind of player is he. let's be honest he hasn't really got the same work ethic as Matic. Stupid comparison really.

10.) 17 Jul 2017 13:07:30
Fabinho is a better option. Made Monaco look awesome last season . 😆😆.

11.) 17 Jul 2017 14:30:36
or we can pay 35 million for an unproven one season wonder and then sell them on in 2 years for nothing. Depay and few others come to mind or buy a proven croatian international who can really improve us.

10 Jul 2017 12:48:33
Bakayoko linked this morning.
I would take him or Fabinho, both superb players in their own right.
I relay can't see Chelsea selling Matic to us now after the Lukaku ordeal.
It's starting to get interesting now.

1.) 10 Jul 2017 19:08:14
What's this rumour about Bakayoko having dodgy knees though hence Chelsea are shying away from the deal?

2.) 10 Jul 2017 20:29:50
He had a little knee injury hence the medical with Chelsea was held up. The deal will probably still go through.

22 Jun 2017 10:58:07
I see that the Fabinho rumours have resurfaced again this morning.
It's a no brainer for me, Mourinho has to go out and get this kid.
He's young, can play as a holding midfielder and a right back.
He even managed to score 11 goals last season and create chances / assists for other players playing as a holding midfielder.
He's perfect for us and it will give Pogba a bit more freedom so he can get forward and express himself.
I don't want to see Pogba taking the ball off a center back and passing it about in his own half, he needs to be the player making things happen further up the pitch.

1.) 22 Jun 2017 11:18:00
Would not object to either or both Fabhino and Matic. It's potentially a big year and we don't know what will happen formation, form or injury wise.
They offer different types of play and with them and Herera/ Pogba we would be strong and have bench depth no matter how we played.

2.) 22 Jun 2017 13:33:03
Brad - if we did sign both I think it's nailed on that Jose would play the pair against the bigger teams. It might be exactly what Jose is looking for.

3.) 22 Jun 2017 15:08:46
If we sign the pair it might at last mean that we can get rid of fellaini.

14 Jun 2017 09:42:22
I hope the reports are not true this morning that Jose prefers Dier than Fabinho.
I would much rather take Fabinho and I don't rate Dier that highly.
We would probably have to fork out a lot more money for Dier because we would be dealing with Daniel Levy.

1.) 14 Jun 2017 10:02:01
I can't see many Spurs players leaving there when they are in a good moment, ok Walker but he seems out of favour. Fabinho, Matic, Matuidi, Kroos, who knows.

2.) 14 Jun 2017 10:17:49
Pogba last night dropped Dier's price to the equivalent of Bebe in $.

3.) 14 Jun 2017 09:57:58
Simo Dier is a really good player. Fabinho I have not seen too much of but from what I read from some very well thought of journalists he seems a little flaky - hit and miss, hot and cold.

As I suggested on another post my idea CM would be Dembele from Spurs but I am probably dreaming.

4.) 14 Jun 2017 11:38:07
Dier is a decent defender, but an average midfielder. There's a reason that Spurs brought in Wanyama, and a reason why he vastly improved their midfield. I have zero clue why we would be looking to bring in Spurs's third choice CB as our first choice midfielder.

5.) 14 Jun 2017 11:41:30
MDB - like I said your dealing with Daniel Levy.

6.) 14 Jun 2017 11:44:34
MAZE - It's all about opinions. Dier is average at best and for the money they would be asking it's ridiculous.
Hs's lived off that free kick in the Euro's, since then he's been nothing but steady / average.
You compare him to Fabinho, Kante, Kroos and he's not even in the same league as them.

7.) 14 Jun 2017 14:25:41
I don't think Matic is mobile enough. If Chelsea don't want him then why would we? We should be aiming for better.
Matuidi is too old, he is 30 now and the fee we would have to pay just doesn't make any sense.
Fabinho would be my first choice but I would take Kroos if we didn't get Fabinho.
I just hope he gets some sort of holding midfielder. For some reason I am not that confident he's going to buy one but I pray to god I am wrong as we are desperate for somebody in this position so we can give Pogba a bit more freedom to express himself.

8.) 14 Jun 2017 16:09:46
How good was he last night. Every pass got to where he wanted to go "awesome ". I'm so glad he plays for Man Utd. 😆😆.

Jesus if they offered 160 million for Pogba I would drive him to Madrid.

Mediocre player. certainly not good enough for that central midfield area if we have aspirations of winning the Premiership and the champions League. I would be going for the Lazio midfielder Savic.

I like Herrera but I don't think he's good enough to play in the first 11. I think we are weak in that central midfield area and need to strengthen in the summer. Herrera is a good back up player to have in the squad.

I think he's done now until the summer.
Interesting to see who he goes for in the summer.
For me he has to get a central midfielder in so we can have the option of playing Pogba further forward.
In my opinion he would be fantastic pushed in a more advanced position.
Maybe a right sided winger would be a good addition as well. We don't have a natural wide right sided player who can hug that touchline and come beat a man and whip the ball in. Lingard can play there as can Mata but they don't give you that natural width. I think Mata may well be moved on as well.
Another position for me would be the right full back. I think we all know that Darmian's days are numbered and Tony V will be 33 in August.
3 players in. Darmian, Mata, Fellaini, Zlatan and Carrick out.

We need a central midfielder before any of those positions mentioned.

55 million pounds for a centre back that will be 30 in August and has spent 2 thirds of the season out with injury. madness.

The biggest weakness has been the central midfield area. Apart from Matic that part of the pitch is empty. In my opinion Pogba cannot play there and Herrera is not good enough. We need at least 2 for next season and also 2 full backs, I think Danny rose is nailed on and Luke Shaw will go in the opposite direction.

Play the match back again and watch how many times Sanchez loses the ball, instead of laying the ball off with an easy pass he chooses to take an extra touch and gets the ball taken off him. Even his passing was dreadful yesterday. Mourinho eluded to it in his after match interview.
I am still trying to work out why Mourinho bought him, we have 2 perfectly good players in that position that were happy to fight it out between them.
The Money could be put to good use buying someone else like a midfielder which we are desperate for.

georgieworst - Sanchez was absolutely awful yesterday, he can't seem to let go of the ball and make the simple pass. He's always wants to take that extra touch and he's constantly loosing the ball. Pogba can go tomorrow for me. I don't care what anyone says on this site, he is not in the slightest interested, he's lazy and arrogant and he's absolutely taking the p*ss out of Manchester United.
To many individual players not enough team players.

Pep has a certain way of playing and he buys the correct players for that way of playing.
People can go on about how much pep has spent but every purchase has slotted in perfectly which you have to admire.
The only mistake he made was buying that clown of a goalkeeper but he's gone out and bought a world class keeper to replace him.
It's horrible to say but are so far ahead of everyone in the premiership its frightening. They will dominate for the next 2-3 years and it wouldn't surprise me if they won the Champions League this year as well.
