Ed do you think we will push fr Todibo in january?

Singh

{Ed002's Note - There are talks going on with another side.}

1.) 29 Dec 2023 20:43:56
Tottenham according to press reports.

2.) 30 Dec 2023 00:15:48
Ok ed and have a great new years everyone.

3.) 30 Dec 2023 20:19:47
Which sane player would come to utd? It's a shambles and its getting worse.

4.) 31 Dec 2023 09:23:36
With a manager on the brink, and new structure imminent, feels a bad time to join the club in January.

5.) 31 Dec 2023 13:22:14
No wrong there Eric. must me mad to join utd at present time. A total mess from top to bottom.

6.) 02 Jan 2024 03:09:02
Chelsea.

7.) 02 Jan 2024 08:41:24
Reports saying we are trying to do a deal for Scalvini from Atalanta. Personally not seen much of him and on the Fence on Todibo. Most likely outcome is we will not spend 40 to 50 mill on a CB this window.

07 Sep 2023 20:23:05
Ed would we look to bring mRcus Leonardo in january or the summer or is he moving elsewhere such as Roma?

Singh

{Ed002's Note - Marcos Leonardo (AM/F) With the books balanced after the sale of Deivid Washington and Angelo Gabriel Santos wish to keep hold of Leonardo. West Ham had an offer rejected in January and Roma are pushing hard to secure a deal now for this coming January. He was discussed with Chelsea who are now comfortable with Washington. Manchester United and Arsenal attended the U23 World Cup and have both declared an interest, as have Lazio.}

30 Aug 2023 18:18:59
Ed will it be Gravenberch or Amrabat or are they unrelated?

Have a nice day.

Singh

{Ed002's Note - The focus is Amrabat.}

1.) 30 Aug 2023 19:15:33
We opted for Amrabat. So Gravenberch has given green light to Liverpool.

I know this has been unpopular when I've said it in the past, but I do think we are headed to Bruno on the right. When everyone is fit.

Whether we agree or not and I don't by the way, I think the boss wants it. Cass and Amrabat CM, Mount AM, Bruno Right, Rashford Left, Hojlund Striker.

I think Antony is playing every game because he is playing for his first team status. We will see, but does Bruno have enough to play that role? Hojlund would benefit more with Bruno ?‍♂️

One thing for sure is the bench would look pretty tasty.

2.) 30 Aug 2023 20:11:09
Don't think united can even get this done, becoming embarrassing.

3.) 30 Aug 2023 19:06:24
Thanks ed.

4.) 30 Aug 2023 21:12:31
Syd that’s the only real way it can work, no way Ten will drop Mount when fit can’t drop Cas can’t drop Bruno, so how else does he fit new man in DM, but he might have backed himself into a corner because means he got to drop Antony, how long Bruno will put up with that is anyone’s guess, so if he leaves next season because of it, Cas starts to struggle we start the whole rebuild again, big money to replace those two so still don’t buy a top striker, because even if the new injured one turns out utterly fantastic we need more then 1…….

5.) 30 Aug 2023 21:31:32
Clearly have no money in the pot due to sales. £4m for this keeper, £3-£7m loan fee for Cucarella, trying Amrabat on loan also.

6.) 30 Aug 2023 21:34:57
Play Mount on the right rather than Bruno?

7.) 30 Aug 2023 21:50:21
Have to agree Eric. If you jave to put someone on the right side, it should surely be Mount instead of Bruno? Mount had his best statistical season at Chelsea when he played off the right quite often, albeit in a 343. He also has excellent delivery, which we'd see more of if he played there.

Bruno has his flaws, but he's our best player, and when he plays well, we generally do too. We should look to get him in his best position at all times, and that's as a 10.

8.) 30 Aug 2023 21:59:46
It's more what I think EtH will go that way guys. Not that I want it.

Antony will offer Hojlund nothing from the right. As he just shoots.

Bruno on the other hand is far more useful for Hojlund. We will see.

9.) 30 Aug 2023 22:09:06
Sydney, I disagree that Antony will offer Hojlund nothing. He doesn’t just shoot, he may not have the best cross but he does play some very good passes in and around the area and some of his through balls recently have been excellent and if we had a player reading them better and/ or converting the chances he would have a couple of assists already this season.

10.) 30 Aug 2023 22:43:54
The loan fee is not crazy low and deals get done for loans depending on wages and who pays what and as i am assuming we are paying his wages plus some. I read Fiorentina wants an obligation to buy in the deal and we are not committing on that.

I was at first also shocked but reading the details, this deal might still get done with some haggling.

Same thing with cucurella and haggling over the fee although he played a full game for chelsea tonight which is a bit puzzling.

Crystal palace at home carabao cup draw. quite a few pl teams drew each other. nc vs city being the headline game i would assume.

11.) 30 Aug 2023 22:41:10
On the break yes JE888, but when we are in possession in that right hand corner and Antony and AVB are passing it to each other and doing nothing. It leaves Antony shooting over the bar or it being passed backwards.

Bruno can find Hojlund and his intricate passing is far better than Antony's. I just think Antony and Garnacho would be good to bring in off the bench when defenders' legs are tired.

12.) 30 Aug 2023 23:19:14
I personally thought Antony’s passing against Forest at the weekend was very good the whole game and not on the break either. In my opinion one of the best games I’ve seen him play for us. He was very unlucky to not get a goal or assist. I think with a good striker up front I hope we will see a much rejuvenated attack. I can’t see Ten Haag dropping anyone for Arambat personally. I think he will come in as a rotation player. I think the midfield will be Cas, Mount, Antony on the right Bruno AM, and Rashford on the left. I don’t see Arambat displacing any of our midfield to start. I think perhaps in the games where we need a bit more legs in midfield he might come in for Casemiro who is starting to look a bit leggy of late, however I think he will be used like Sabitzer was last season. I could be wrong but that’s the team I would play, and the team that Ten Haag seemed to prefer in preseason and into the start of the season.

13.) 30 Aug 2023 23:21:00
Rumour is we need to get Amrabat and Cucurella for as cheap as possible as we want to bring in a permanent player. Where I was hoping for Todibo, I think it may be that Brazilian striker. Is it Leandro? Or Leonardo?

14.) 30 Aug 2023 23:25:49
JE88

Antony had 2 assists in 28 pl games last year. He is not the type of winger who sets up other players. Under hits most crosses and no lift on the ball, which is last resort for him. When he passes its mostly backwards or sideways and nothing coming into the box, that's why I get frustrated watching him lol

Rash had 5 in 35 games so not great assist numbers from our wing play although to be fair to both having wout cement feet did not probably help.

Last game against forest was the first time in a while he went down the line and Bruno almost scored from the cross.

15.) 31 Aug 2023 00:17:53
Let's hope someone is coaching him to make that change. Rashford also had 2 assists and a key pass (to bruno for his assist) . So maybe someone is finally getting through about the need to PASS the freaking ball!

16.) 31 Aug 2023 00:18:03
Ahmad, it was his first season in a new team and a new league, and playing in a team without a recognised striker. When the vast majority of our goals came from the left with Rashford cutting so in my opinion it’s not really a surprise Antony didn’t get many assists from the right wing. I do think the whole team will look completely different when Hojlunds fit and starting.

17.) 31 Aug 2023 09:16:36
The notion that Bruno Fernandez is our best player is a bit of a worry. Very good but not a worldy. Not like the days when all XI were incredible.

18.) 31 Aug 2023 11:32:35
Mount has done nothing warrant a starting place yet, never mind pushing Bruno out his best position.

19.) 31 Aug 2023 12:25:30
Bruno will have a few bad games but he is a brilliant player and our most creative and influential player with cas close second imo.

20.) 31 Aug 2023 12:41:47
Strange we didn’t go for Gravenberch, he’s versatile and can cover CDM which is what we need. Great passing and progressive carries stats (comparable to Amrabat) and he exceeds Amrabat in every other stat especially defensively, Amrabat‘s defensive stats are actually pretty poor. If it was a choice between the two I think we’ve made the incorrect one.

21.) 31 Aug 2023 13:22:06
Gravenberch is desperate for a move to reboot his career. He will not wait for us forever. Good luck to him.

22.) 31 Aug 2023 13:25:03
Rews

Hard to say until we see them in the pl if it happens. Bergwin stats were off the charts and he did very little at spurs.

23.) 31 Aug 2023 13:50:18
Amrabat is first choice, think he would be a great addition. We need a busy body in there to play alongside cas. A better Fred, if you will.

Anything aside from Amrabat, is a bonus.

24.) 31 Aug 2023 14:47:04
Is he a better Fred though, we will have to wait and see if he can control and pass a ball, I be surprised if he can run as much as Fred did though.

25.) 31 Aug 2023 16:00:52
Ahmad, In 2022 season Anthony ranked 4th on the chamions league expected assists. The lack of assists last season is more to do with not having a striker than anything else, i don't get it why so many United fans just want to pick a player to hate on. Give everyone a chance with a striker in the team for the first time in a long while.

26.) 31 Aug 2023 16:28:37
Amrabat is statistically the opposite to Fred. Fred’s got fantastic defensive output put poor passing and carrying stats. Fred’s also miles better statistically for attacking actions like shots created and npxG + xAG.

Amrabat - pass completion 92.3%, progressive passes 9.61 per 90mins. He’s in the 98th centile for passes, pass accuracy and progressive carries per 90. His defensive stats per 90mins are tackles 1.97, interceptions 1.2, blocks 0.43, Clearances 0.43.

Gravenberch - pass completion 85.1%, progressive passes 6.67 per 90mins. He’s in the 80th centile for passes, pass accuracy and progressive carries per 90. His defensive stats per 90mins are tackles 2.96, interceptions 1.29, blocks 1.17, Clearances 1.4.

Gravenberch is a better version of Fred from a stats point of view. You get similar defensive output with a far higher quality passing and creating output. Amrabat is superior at passing and carries but is in the lower centile for his defensive work.

Amrabat surely isn’t cover for Casemiro.

27.) 31 Aug 2023 16:30:19
Expected assist list……? what does that include the amount of times he gets past a man an expected cross should come in from his right foot, but he not got a right foot so cuts back…is that what an expected assist is?

28.) 31 Aug 2023 17:02:56
Thanks for stats Rewz, but glaring problem is they are taken from players playing in completely different leagues, so as with most stats take with a pinch of salt!

29.) 31 Aug 2023 18:00:03
Rewz, Ambarat playing could mean Casemiro gets a Gravenberch role. Casemiro is pretty decent when allowed to play b2b.

30.) 31 Aug 2023 19:46:10
Not exactly sure Trafford but football people like to use stats to rate players, maybe they could just read forums to get expert reviews like your own.

31.) 31 Aug 2023 20:07:56
Thanks in hope, so other words you have no idea, thanks for info though that real football people use stats to judge a player, problem is you can use any stats to back and fuel any argument to whatever is needed, there is a couple of past masters on here at it.
I stick to my eyes only then and not wear the red tinted glasses whilst I’m doing it.

32.) 31 Aug 2023 22:31:17
Interesting stats in hope.

I’m still so interested who Trafford is, who was it used to say red tinted glasses all the time, it’s really starting to intrigue me.

33.) 01 Sep 2023 05:40:52
Get a life G2S, probably about 50 million people use that expression the world over, probably even more use the expression I use for you!

34.) 01 Sep 2023 09:59:27
Ah so it is Maze ? at least I know to ignore now as you’ll be blocked again soon.

16 Jun 2023 15:00:51
De gea to leave?

Singh

{Ed002's Note - Unless a new contract is agreed he will be available as a Free Agent in two weeks.}

1.) 16 Jun 2023 20:20:19
Surprised he’s had no offers from abroad? His wages I guess must be an issue.

2.) 16 Jun 2023 22:31:22
He's not that good Eric. Shot stopper yes he's great but apart from that he's average. there are so many better keepers about. He can't even get in the spain and hasn't been there for quite some time and under a few managers, that says it all.

3.) 16 Jun 2023 23:24:19
On a free to a European team. elite European team? Imagine him at juve. or real Madrid or bayern? If he had a season or 2 with centre backs that are week in week out as good as varane and Martinez . or maybe better. he could be one of the best still. This guy has played out of his socks for us and for most part has had various managers, no real foundation defensive centres. for years n years. and a cb who until recently, was poor but couldn't be dropped (Harry m) .

With what he's had to deal with, he's phenomenal.

4.) 17 Jun 2023 07:53:52
I don’t disagree EZRS. But times change, and so does football. It’s now not enough just to have a keeper who’s a brilliant rubbish stopper. And let’s be honest, most top keepers are brilliant shot stoppers. The game has evolved into a game where you need 11 footballers and despite DDG been brilliant for us, he’s awful with the ball at his feet and effectively leaves us a man short against the top top teams with sweeper keepers who play high up the pitch. His age, his wage……. I’d let him go with a heavy heart.

24 Apr 2023 13:57:31
Ed I've seen you mention we would target two cbs this summmer.

Could you give us a list of players we are after and who is our number one choice?

Is Pau Torres our number one choice?

Singh

{Ed002's Note -
Kim Min-jae (CB) Napoli are not looking to sell but there is interest from Manchester United and possibly still Spurs.
Perr Schuurs (CB) Only signed from Ajax last summer and an enquiry from Spurs was met with a not for sale - but a €50m would make them listen. I doubt any club would value him at half that but Manchester United, and ten Hag knows him well, and Liverpool have sent scouts.
Goncalo Inacio (CB) Watched by scouts from a number of PL sides, including Liverpool and Manchester United, with the latter declaring an interest. The other side to declare an interest is PSG. Real Madrid offer a wildcard option. Sporting would rather not sell and are looking to a new contract and an increased release clause.
Pau Torres (CB) Villareal are stll struggling financially and will sell at the right price. Manchester City had him as an option and they still need a major CB addition but interest may have waned. Manchester United had him as first choice, but purchased Varane instead but may chase again with departures imminent. Barcelona has a sustained interest but price will likely be an issue and they may look to horse trade some players - but priorities will be elsewhere. Bayern Munich, chelsea and PSG interest has moved on. Real Madrid wanted Torres to replace Ramos but do not want to get in to an auction. Spurs have had sustained interest since Mr Mourinho was coach - and have spoken with the club. Aston Villa offer an unlikely option. Any interest of Arsenal will depend on departures.
Alessandro Bastoni (CB) On the list for Chelsea but behind Gvardiol. Spurs interest may remain due to Paritici. Both Manchester Clubs are interested if he becomes available although Manchester City have a preferrred option.
Axel Disasi (CB) West Ham and Spurs had a declared interest but after adding Aguerd in the summer would have ended that and Spurs to Lenglet on loan. Southamption interest will have gone. After the sale of BB Monaco will probably not be open to a sale, even though they have an obligation to buy another CB. Wildcards will be Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City.
Fikayo Tomori (CB) Milan has no interest in selling but a return to Chelsea was suggested during discussions between the clubs over two other players. Manchester United have had a very high-end third-party scout watching him on their behalf. Conte was keen but has since left Spurs.
Jurrien Timber (CB) Manchester United and Spurs remain keen - price will be huge if Ajax agree to sell and will not be first chpoice for either club.}

1.) 24 Apr 2023 14:42:13
Thank you for detailed update Ed002 - much appreciated as always.

2.) 24 Apr 2023 17:10:13
Would love kim min jae or even tomori to be honest.

3.) 24 Apr 2023 17:35:01
Great to hear Tomori being looked at. I’d like us to get him.

02 Jul 2023 18:55:35
Why this Onana guy? This is another expensive Maguire type of mistake. Go for the best or keep De Gea.

Singh

1.) 02 Jul 2023 19:21:13
Out of interest, who’s the ‘best’ Singh?

2.) 02 Jul 2023 19:29:00
Curious, who in your opinion is the best?

Also what if the “best” doesn’t suit Ten Hags style?

3.) 02 Jul 2023 19:45:32
Onana quite simply IS the best footballing goalkeeper in the world, outside of Ederson.

He’d completely revolutionise the way we played and suit ETH’s philosophy down to the ground.

4.) 02 Jul 2023 20:04:29
This Onana guy? Played in the CL final, you’re talking like we’ve plucked some 16 year old from Maccabi Haifa.

5.) 02 Jul 2023 20:05:26
The best footballing gk in the world that is a huge statement. I don't agree, however I do think he is what we need in a keeper.

6.) 02 Jul 2023 20:48:10
Best is probably Diogo Costa but hear that Onana is best ball-playing GK, justvwhat ETH wants, will revolutionise how we play.

7.) 02 Jul 2023 21:06:51
Best is the ac milan french guy then onana and then costa imo from who is available. Costa is poor on crosses and a bit of ddg in him but good with his feet. ac milan guy who is the starting french goalie is the best but would be pretty expensive i reckon.

8.) 02 Jul 2023 21:15:30
I personally think Jan Oblak is the best.

9.) 02 Jul 2023 21:35:29
Go for Mbappe or keep Weghorst.

10.) 02 Jul 2023 21:39:21
Our u14 goalkeeper played out on pitch today and was nutmugging people for fun. He is the best.

11.) 02 Jul 2023 21:45:11
Won’t Onana have to go to AFCON in January?

12.) 02 Jul 2023 21:56:24
Onana can pass the ball better than most of our team, ten hag knows and trusts him, he would change our entire style of play.
No brainer.

13.) 02 Jul 2023 21:59:13
Good point that we’d lose our gk for a month. Brilliant!

14.) 02 Jul 2023 22:34:21
Hasn’t Onana retired from international football?

15.) 02 Jul 2023 22:46:52
Donnaruma of PSG would be my choice but doubt he is available.

16.) 02 Jul 2023 22:54:27
Is Emi Martinez a bad shout?

17.) 03 Jul 2023 00:44:02
Don’t think there is one world class keeper out there but to be honest there aren’t many world class players either.

{Ed077's Note - Magic Mike is the closest to World Class level for keepers that may just end up with a transfer this window.

18.) 03 Jul 2023 05:14:32
I believe Onana does not play for Cameroon anymore because the head coach wanted a more traditional GK.

19.) 03 Jul 2023 07:52:37
Onana was sent home at the world cup for some dispute with their coach. Not sure if the coach still there as many teams make changes after world cups.

20.) 03 Jul 2023 09:18:27
Emi Martinez isn’t a bad shout at all whoever mentioned that one. He’d be adored by the Stretford End. The best……. I’d say Jan Oblak. English……. big fan of Arron Ramsey.

21.) 03 Jul 2023 09:29:54
Modern goalkeepers generally test the nerves of fans but it is a by product the sweeper keeper style they expect to play.
Onana is perfect for progressing from the back and will help avoiding the press. He does worry me with how much he seems to parry the ball or punch it rather than catch but again this seems to be more common with modern goalkeepers.
EtH knows him well so if we go for him he at least knows the good and bad he will get.
On the international front I believe he has retired.

22.) 03 Jul 2023 10:21:30
Of course, we all know that DDG signs a new deal don’t we!

23.) 03 Jul 2023 21:13:08
Onana got dropped from Cameroons WC squad because he was taking too many risks with the ball, he subsequently retired after a bust up with
Rigobert Song and won't be at the ACN unless Song gets the boot, which is possible.

But you can imagine him taking a few risks at OT that don't come off, it won't be long before the grumbling will start.

24.) 03 Jul 2023 22:14:21
I wouldn't have him i'd go for Oblak if i'm letting De Gea go. Onana will not be as good as some of u think he would be but good luck.

25.) 03 Jul 2023 22:29:46
So who IS the best? Well according to Google lol, the best goalkeepers in the world are (in no particular order) :
Coutois, Ederson, Martinez, Neuer, ter Stegen, Donnarumma, Bounou, Alisson, Oblak, Buffon, Maignan, and our former GK himself De Gea.
A subjective list of course being generated by AI, but it's fair to say most people's go-to names are on there, even if the man of the moment Onana isn't. A few eyebrow raisers I'd say (I remember Bounou from the World Cup, but I mean. ), and a few maybe a little past their prime.

{Ed002's Note - It is not being generated by AI.}

26.) 04 Jul 2023 09:16:37
I'd say Onana is definitely amongst the top 10 best keepers in the world currently. While he is still young enough to continue to improve.

At the moment I'd say Alisson is the best keeper in the world followed closely by Maignan. After that its pretty close between the next 8 and is debatable about the order.

27.) 04 Jul 2023 10:16:33
The best two keepers in the world play for City and Liverpool in my opinion.

28.) 04 Jul 2023 10:34:10
Sim, I thought Ederson had a poor season personally.

29.) 04 Jul 2023 10:37:09
Oblak is like De Gea, unreal shot stopped (tbc with De Gea in recent seasons tbf) but he couldn’t pass C.V. even if he tried.

30.) 04 Jul 2023 11:12:51
Shappy - He didn't have to do anything last season because everyone in front of him were so good.

31.) 04 Jul 2023 12:34:21
simo

I agree. top of the pile for me. Excellent in all aspects of the game. Both also helped by having defenders who are comfortable on the ball in front of them.

32.) 04 Jul 2023 13:12:02
The best is Ederson for me, in terms of ability and being this much-fabled 'modern' keeper. But it's true he doesn't have to do nearly as much as most goalkeepers (if any) so doesn't fall under the spotlight often. Pulled off a few belting saves in the CL final when it mattered to his credit.

33.) 04 Jul 2023 17:50:41
I don’t think Allison or Ederson make the top 2 tbh. It’s only for the fact that they are in top teams with relatively settled world class defenders in front of them that people rate them. If I had to choose between the two I’d go for Ederson based on the fact he looks like a Bond villain and Allison has a girls name.

34.) 04 Jul 2023 17:58:42
Mannigan is the one who can do it all.

Onana will drop a bollock or two but I guess the expectation is he out performs in other ways to compensate.

Neuer on a 2 year deal would be my best for now.

Costa isn’t ready.

07 Apr 2023 20:01:12
Shappy I think your waffles got Ken banned.

Singh

1.) 08 Apr 2023 09:32:53
I speak to Ken regularly, away from the site. He's big enough and ugly enough to get himself banned and own it.

Whether he comes back under a different name some point down the line who knows. Probably best to draw a line under it and move on now.

2.) 08 Apr 2023 15:23:14
Do you speak to him in remote car parks in the dead of knight through car windows fogged with the steam of rutting?

3.) 08 Apr 2023 16:04:24
Knew that was you Danny?.

4.) 08 Apr 2023 17:49:07
Woof woof.

14 Feb 2023 20:02:12
If Qataris buy us then that's me done with Manchester United.

Singh

1.) 14 Feb 2023 20:59:03
Interesting, don’t think there is much will stop me supporting my club.

2.) 14 Feb 2023 21:11:17
ManchesQatar United! Tbh they can’t be worse than the Glazers.

3.) 14 Feb 2023 21:38:36
The club is bigger than any owner who owns us. As fans we unfortunately don't have a say who who owns us. If the Glazers wanted to sell Old Trafford brick by brick there's nothing we can do to stop them as they own the club.

If a consortium from Qatar buy the club and people want to stop engaging with the club, that's your own decision. As I said earlier, the clubs owners good, bad or heinous won't deter me from watching 11 men on the field trying to win a football match.

If their ultimate goal is to use the club to get an army of fans to sports wash their countries tarnished image, then I think they'll be surprised. We have no power in determining who the owners will be but we can control how we conduct ourselves as fans. We don't have to drink the cool aid and defend them blindly.

4.) 14 Feb 2023 21:39:43
Everyone has their own personal feelings on this and that should be respected.

Personally while there are certain pote in owners that make me feel more uncomfortable than others ultimately I support the club and not the owners.

I have supported Manchester United all my life, including the past 17 years under the Glazer ownership while never once supporting the owners, what they do or what they stand for.

But like I said everyone has their own opinion and personal feelings about it and I respect that.

5.) 14 Feb 2023 21:59:34
I'm with you shappy.
Everyone has their own views and I wouldn't try to convince anybody one way or the other.
I hope our new owners uphold the clubs traditions whilst bringing the club forward into the modern era.

6.) 14 Feb 2023 21:59:40
I sent a long post on this a couple of days ago but it didn't make it on to the page.

Someone on here compared the UK to Saudi and Qatar suggesting human rights violations happened everywhere, which is stretching things somewhat. In the UK, you can worship who you want, you have freedom of expression, minorities are protected by law, women are equal to men, and here's the biggest thing, if we don't like the government, we can vote for a different one in free and fair elections.

That Newcastle fans embrace Saudi ownership so enthusiastically turns my stomach, and if the Qataris buy United then I will be torn. Violations of human rights, outlawing of homosexuality, discriminatory male guardianship rules all make me deeply uncomfortable. I wonder how our women's team would feel? To compare this to the current owners and 'what they stand for'is plain dumb.

Too many will simply shrug and hope for a big transfer fund which is their right, but I will struggle to support my team if the ownership passes to the Qataris, or several others.

7.) 14 Feb 2023 22:33:31
People are of course free to make up their own mind about who they support and why, I have heard United fans being disingenious about United fans who don't go to games, are not from Manchester, not from North West, not from England many times.

Who owns United isn't my decision, nor do I want it to be, I just want good owners, I will support them no matter what, bloody hell if the merged with City or Liverpool I would still support the new club, although bi have no idea who we'd sing about then.

8.) 14 Feb 2023 22:39:41
If anyone doesn’t like who owns us next they’re free to leave.

Speaking as a white, Christian, Englishman I think some people have exceptionally short memories when it comes to our own shockingly poor history when it comes to treating others. Qatar, Saudi, China - all of these countries and the billionaire owners within them may not be classed as anyone’s ideal owners now given their recent human rights record. But if that’s the case which country would you be happy with their countrymen owning us? An Englishman or an American would be at the back of the queue if it was judged based on atrocities committed against other nations.

If you’re looking for a perfect owner who’s worth at least £10b+ they are at best going to have a suboptimal past in how they acquired such wealth.

9.) 14 Feb 2023 23:54:34
As a Liverpool fan I'm with you AJH, feel exactly the same about any potential buyer for us.
Halesini, acknowledging our own terrible history and treatment of others doesn't mean we accept it from others now, today in 2023. Empire building was seen as a natural progression for a country 300 years ago. We now judge current practices by current acceptable norms. If you accept beheadings, the ownership of women and the murder of homosexuals as ok because we were awful in the past, then I think you need to rethink the matter, respectfully.

10.) 15 Feb 2023 01:03:51
Halesini, shappy and Ken, you make very good points. Am I missing something here? We live in a society that is very violent and I've seen it very close to home as the young lady who was murdered in my village might have been a hate crime. I worked in Abu Dhabi for 7 years and never saw any crime and felt completely safe.
We as a nation have ruled many others against their will. We don't have to look too far into history to see the huge mistake in invading iraq which resulted in over 500,000 deaths. So, who are we to preach to anyone about caring for humanity?
If the Qataris buy the club, invest in facilities, team and local area, then I'm all for it. Anyone thinking we're whiter than white, better look into our history and current affairs more closely.

11.) 15 Feb 2023 06:51:01
BS, I'm here fingers-crossed hoping the Qataris succeed.

Stay on your moral high horse and ride into oblivion.

Can't remember Qataris lying about weapons of mass destruction and annihilating millions of civilians in Iraq or Libya just for resources or hegemonic dominance.

Yet those that did that a revered in the West, knighted or given coloured hearts of national significance.

If the people from the collective West (Europe, and USA) ie NATO alliance countries could hear what the rest of the world says about them they'd be shocked to find out they're the monsters they keep thinking they're fighting.

Reminds me of the 2015 movie Hidden.

12.) 15 Feb 2023 07:33:50
Burkeyboy, Don't get too concerned. Nobody is interested in buying your club ? ? ?.

13.) 15 Feb 2023 07:56:45
For those of you referring to the past crimes of the British, there is just one major flaw in your logic; the British Government aren't interested in buying Man Utd so what the British have or haven't done over the years has zero relevance to this discussion.

What we are talking about is whether we can accept owners (the Qatari government) who indulge in modern day slavery, imprison homosexuals, abuse human rights and coercively control women - Shappy, I'm pleased to read you are at least 'uncomfortable' with this.

So please stop deflecting, give over with the whataboutery and focus on the actual issue.

Are there any heinous activities from future owners you won't accept? Rape, murder, genocide? or are they all also ok because other people did bad things as well? Attack attack attack, Halesini, Yaz?

14.) 15 Feb 2023 08:54:41
Its the same debate like we have for players signing. If i like the player then he is the best, if not then there wasnt a worse player. Its irrelevant to the other person. I am in favor of whoever runs the club well. I see no issues how City or PSG are being run so i don't see how we won't be run well either. As for Qatar vs Jim Ratcliffe i am in favor of Qatar simply because they have more wealth which can be used to give us better stadium and facilities. Ratcliffe doesn't have that.

15.) 15 Feb 2023 08:59:13
What Yaz said. Get off your moral high horse.

{Ed001's Note - having morals is now seen as being on a high horse? Wow no wonder the world is such a mess. I would say that having morals should be applauded and respected, even if you disagree with them.}

16.) 15 Feb 2023 09:16:58
Mancman asks a great question, to those of you who are only interested in the wealth of the owners, where do you draw the line, or do you not care at all? Some seem willing to ignore the suppression and control of women, the imprisoning of people for being gay, the lack of free speech. So what wouldn't you accept, or does the size of the transfer kitty override any morals you may have?

17.) 15 Feb 2023 09:31:37
If morals was the only consideration for potential new owners, the club will probably never get sold.

18.) 15 Feb 2023 09:33:21
MancMan, I think there needs to be something morally wrong with a person not to feel uncomfortable knowing what goes on in other parts of the world (or even in your own part of the world) .

Any association of atrocities committed by other people/ states/ organisations with our club will obviously be of concern to fans, and again uncomfortable to live with.

However, we have absolutely no power to stop these things happening, we have no power to dictate who buys and owns our club.

Personally I am able to separate the club I love from the people connected to it. I don't like the Glazers, I don't support their actions. That would be the same no matter who the owners are. Personally I feel more uncomfortable with Mason Greenwood and Ryan Giggs, players I have cheered and supported, and now we know what sort of people they are and what they have done to other people. Their connection to the club is far stronger than any owners. That also makes me feel uncomfortable. But again that is the acts of an individual and not the club I support.

I feel like cutting your nose off to spite your face never achieves anything positive. I won't deprive myself of something I love, especially as it won't make any difference in the grand scheme of things. But I appreciate others feel differently, and I respect their right to feel that way and support or remove their support from the club in their own way.

19.) 15 Feb 2023 09:38:58
Again no criticism. For anybody.
Mancman do you live in an occupied state?
I do. The British still rule part of my country against the will of the people.
Last time England hosted a wc it was a criminal offence to be gay.
Gay peoples rights to marry was only passed a few years ago in UK and later than a lot more progressive countries.
Who is to say that the more the people in the middle east are exposed to western cultures that they won't embrace some of our cultures, who is to say that things won't improve over time in the middle east? They did in Britain to a large extent but not fully as per my first few lines.
I've worked there and know lots of people who live there.
While I don't align with some things others are fantastic over there and the English could learn plenty from them just as they can learn plenty from this side if the water.
Do you want to just cut that part of the world adrift until they align with your thoughts and morals.
You think it is OK for the British to invade or still occupy countries they invaded years ago. If that's where your moral compass is that's your perogative.

20.) 15 Feb 2023 09:51:03
The Glazers have run down the club with mismanagement for over a decade now. Would fans of the club rather the Glazers continue wrecking the club than say, a middle east investor comes and introduces the club to the 21st century?

21.) 15 Feb 2023 10:02:33
Isnt this similar to what AJH alluded to in his post just below this one. If the British are so morally sound then why the chants in the stadium? Where are your morals there?

22.) 15 Feb 2023 10:09:21
I’ve said this before. Supporting your football club is not the same as endorsing those who own it. I don’t want a state owned, or some horrific people in charge. In an ideal world we would be fan owned. But that’s not possible.

My emotional attachment will not leave the me. It’s part of me. We all knew the type of people who would come in for us if the glazers ever sold. Jim Ratcliffe is talking about another takeover loaded with debt backed by the American banks. Ideally he would have the funds and would take us over, but if it’s not possible, it’s not possible.

23.) 15 Feb 2023 10:15:50
Funny thing is Britain hasn't stopped.

It's sells and buys arms from Israel, it has troops on ground in Syria together with USA stealing oil and other resources.

Likewise African countries like Somalia, DRC etc where the pretence of "peacekeeping" is accompanied by covert exportation of the obvious (natural resources) .

Look at how West treats its own who stand up for truth vis the incarceration of Julian Assange, Edward Snowden and many of their ilk who decided to expose the rot in governance etc. I'm sure Seymour Hersh will be next.

I can keep going on and on but unfortunately, lots have been brainwashed by western MSM propaganda and see their countries as beacons of light shining and liberating us with their "democracy" and cleansing us from filth.

24.) 15 Feb 2023 10:17:40
Tony, I think that's a little unfair to assume those who continue to support the club do so indifferent to the suffering in other parts of the world due to a "large transfer kitty".

There are people who have generational seats at Old Trafford, one family owning the same seats for 40, 50 or 60 years or more. There is an emotional connection with the club, it's not like picking your favourite car manufacturer or brand of cola.

Asking or expecting those people to turn their backs on that is unfair.

I don't think think it has anything to do with how much money the new owners spend. But everything to do with a deep connection. For some people watching their football team is the only joy they will have all week, the bright point in an otherwise difficult week. Should they deny themselves that?

Everyone supports the club differently and in their own way. I don't except that someone born in the shadow of Old Trafford is a better or more important fan than someone who grew up on the other side of the world. Some fans buy every bit of merchandise and watch every game, others watch games when they can. Some people have a very deep connection with the club and it's a big part of their life, others have less deep connection and engage with the club when it suits them.

At the end of the day we are all fans, but how we support the club is personal to each of us. That needs to be respected, and I don't feel attempts to question that or shame people for any reason progresses anything or is the best way to conduct ourselves.

For some fans the potential Qatari ownership will be too big a problem for them to continue to support the club. Others will feel deeply uncomfortable about it but won't turn their backs on the club, others won't care at all. Everyone is entitled to their point of view, whether we agree with it or not.

25.) 15 Feb 2023 10:22:04
Great Post Yaz. And yes you could go on and on and on and on.

26.) 15 Feb 2023 10:23:07
Amen, AJH, great post.

27.) 15 Feb 2023 10:23:58
This is a football page nothing to do with politics.

As for the new owners that’s another thing we have no control over.
As someone mentioned earlier they will all have a skeleton or two in the cupboard as you don’t get to be a billionaire without stepping on a few toes.
I will support Utd no matter what.

28.) 15 Feb 2023 10:50:00
Same boat as AJH. The purchase of United would be part of Qatar’s sports washing strategy. Images of United players and fans, the club’s history and tradition would be directly used to sanitise the mass abuse of women, lgbt, and a whole host of groups that are oppressed in Qatar. As bad as the Glazers are, the end goal was their personal wealth, not normalising abuse and oppression.

29.) 15 Feb 2023 11:36:16
Agree with Ed001 and a few others. Seems a lot of people are prepared to leave their qualms about the most basic of human rights abuses at the door, just because they support a football team. It's not getting on a moral high horse to be uneasy about the thought, it should be the default position for most right-thinking people.

30.) 15 Feb 2023 11:59:08
Slight alteration to your post Stevie. It would the default position for most "west" thinking people.

Unless Qatar oppresses women in Manchester, you shouldn't worry about it. don't claim to be saints when the devil lives in your own backyards.

31.) 15 Feb 2023 12:26:06
Bang on UA. Try living in an occupied state for a while run by the British and you'll know all about it.

{Ed001's Note - whataboutery at its finest. No one here is involved in that, they aren't claiming its right either, so why use that as an excuse? It is completely unrelated to the subject of whether someone can be happy or otherwise with regard to who your owners are. Well unless it was someone involved with those things, in which case they stop being whataboutery and become relevant details. Otherwise, stick to the actual argument.}

32.) 15 Feb 2023 12:29:50
So human rights abuses are ok, if they're not in Manchester? You can't be concerned with things happening in other countries? If that was the case, South Africa would probably still have Apartheid. An appreciation for basic human rights should not be considered just a 'west' thing.

33.) 15 Feb 2023 13:01:24
Nou, I would assume 99% percent of fans given the choice wouldn't choose Qatar as our owners. The majority on here would have a decent moral compass and don't disregard any of the heinous acts their regime has done. The quandary with me lies in "what can we do as fans? ".

As Danny pointed out above, they're doing this to get an army of fans to defend them and they actions. We can control that part of the social contract and simply not do it.

There are some super posts in this thread but when you start looking deep into football and our club, the skeletons in the closet should have drove most people away already.

We take sponsorship money from States that have human right violations. So is it alright to take their money as sponsorship but not if they own us?

The Greenwood saga too is making many fans question if they'll continue to watch if he's reinstated. Yet we have a statue of Best outside the ground who has a very checkered past. We sing songs from the terraces of Giggs name.

I'm only playing Devils Advocate here with these questions and I know there is a tipping point for some people. But for me, I just want to watch some football. Qatar owning the club won't make me treat anyone else differently, I won't make me become a cheerleader for them.

The horse bolted a long time ago for football. Morals are to be applauded of course but if you looked deep into any industry, you wouldn't watch T. V or film ever again, you wouldn't enjoy a nice steak, you couldn't listen to your favourite 80s rock band, you wouldn't heat your house or drive your car.

Unfortunately everything stinks so hold your breath and try to leave the place nicer than when you found it.

34.) 15 Feb 2023 13:32:02
Mumbles, honestly, I'd be genuinely torn. This club have been an important part of my life for 45 years, and it would be extremely difficult to flick that love off just like that.

I know the modern world is a minefield and nothing is squeaky clean, but I hate whataboutery as well. Just because someone else does something bad, shouldn't mean we can't call out basic abuses that are staring us in the face. I protested against the govts position on gay rights years ago, and I did the same over the Iraqi war, so I'm under no illusions what western govts are capable of. But the basic rights to live and love as you choose should pretty much be non-negotiable.

{Ed001's Note - that is a great post.}

35.) 15 Feb 2023 13:32:55
Spot on Ed001.

36.) 15 Feb 2023 14:09:40
I'm on the same side of the fence Nou. I hope my post didn't come across like I was making excuses for them as owners, I'm not. I guess it's the old adage "how much difference can one person make".

I'm in Ireland, I'm at any protest I can get to because our government are crooks. Mainly on the issue of a right to housing. Iv been at protests with 25000 and been at protests with 100. Very hard to keep going and I don't blame people for stepping back because sometimes you feel like you can't make a difference, so u don't blame fans for just continuing as they are

As you say, it would be incredibly difficult to stop watching United. From my grandad, to my dad to all my siblings, united has been a constant in my life.

Qatar want fans to back them. We know that's what the con is so it's up to us to not turn into that fan base. That's how I rationalise it anyways.

37.) 15 Feb 2023 14:02:45
I just don't understand that whataboutery attitude, Ed001.

It's rife in modern life, unfortunately.

I see people sticking up for bent politicians in the party they support, by claiming the other side are just as bad. And? Your politician is still bent.

It's a cop out. No country would ever be pressured into changing outdated practices, if we all just went, 'we're bad as well, so leave them to it'. I used Apartheid as an example. Should nations like the UK, France, USA, not have put pressure on that abhorrent regime, because 'we're bad as well'?

Anyway, I'm away to wrestle with my conscience ?.

{Ed001's Note - good luck with that wrestling match mate!}

38.) 15 Feb 2023 14:17:54
No, not at all Mumbles. I thought your post was thoughtful, reasoned and considered. A few on this thread, not so much.

39.) 15 Feb 2023 15:07:40
Whilst I don't agree with a lot of the things the Qataris have done, I look at the club differently.

I assume the people saying they won't support us if the Qatari's buy also don't own iPhones, shop at ASOS, Primark and others to name a few. A lot of companies are guilty of poor human rights violations but this gets overlooked because its not in the spotlight currently.

If you are sat reading this on an iPhone and are saying you won't support United, I think you need a take a look at your moral compass.

40.) 15 Feb 2023 14:19:09
One unmentioned elephant in the room is how would the moral minority feel if Qatari money bought Liverpool and we continued to drift further behind city and subsequently Liverpool and Newcastle?

41.) 15 Feb 2023 16:30:56
Allan, I suppose that depends where football ranks in their priorities.

42.) 15 Feb 2023 17:49:15
We already know the answer, the same as we do for fans of all clubs not owned by such owners. Everyone would cry morale outrage just as everyone do now bar City, Newcastle and PSG fans.

Of course it doesn't mean they are morally outraged at all, they just have found a reason for a dig at an opposing side.

There are very few dissenting voices at City Newcastle and PSG and I believe it would be the same here, at Liverpool or any other club with such owners.

22 Sep 2022 21:33:12
What a nice time it has been for us lately and i can see us beating City too. Martinez is just too good along with Varane.

We needed a proper defence and now we have it in Varane and Martinez.

We still neeed a top class striker, cm and rb.

I also like how Sancho is playing and he is showing so much composure in those tight moments which is soo nice to see and I think with Antony in the team everyone elses performances goes up by a few notches because he spreads that positive energy.

Oh yeah Malacia and Eriksennn and especially Eriksen he is absolutely class!

Singh

1.) 23 Sep 2022 01:02:45
Let's not jump the gun. Haaland is a top forward. He will cause us problems.

As of yet, Varane might likely return injured like he usually does after playing for France. I do think there midfielders better than ours aswell.

2.) 23 Sep 2022 07:05:51
I think they will beat us and they are better than us in most areas of the pitch and we are not there yet. Hopefully two more windows and we compete for the league title in 2024/ 2025 season imo.

Lots of players that need to get cleared out and new ones to bring in that's adds to strength in depth and quality.

3.) 23 Sep 2022 11:00:18
The derby will be a really tough game, but it's important to remember it's just a one off game.

If we lose it doesn't mean we are crashing.

While if we win it doesn't mean we are back and title challengers.

Like all derbies I think it's 50/ 50, form and position go out the window on these occasions.

Some players wilt under the pressure others thrive. Let's just try and enjoy it and not over think it.

4.) 24 Sep 2022 23:49:57
City if they play to their potential will spank us. Man for man they have the better players and varane and martinez are not strong enough to hold off Haarland. (not that many are) . The easier way to stop him scoring is to deprive him of supply but City are really good at possession football and making opening s by using ball retention to move teams around.

Onana is showing rxacrly why we shouldn't have sold DeGea. That guy is simply not good enough and talks more then he actually saves us points or wins us games.

I am scratching my head thinking how the hekl we sold DeGea to buy him.

If you buy to upgrade then you buy the best and not buy a keeper becoz he's good with his toes but save a goal lmaoo.

Anyways I think he's going to smash it for Roma and I could see him having his career revived by Mourinho.
