Happy New year to all eds and posters old and new. Any chance of a inkling of a surprise transfer to us this January Ed002? Something to warm the cockles of my heart this grey Dorset day as I'm covering my wife's charming cafe having avoided any alcohol for the last few months including last night. I am plying myself with high grade caffeine this morning accompanied with a smorgasbord of green teas and a bacon sandwich.

{Ed002's Note - Joao Mario will maybe emerge as a favoutite for midfield.}

1.) 01 Jan 2018 12:55:11
Are we targeting only one midfielder or two ed? . By us going after Mario means the end for milinkovic Savic and Soler or are these two transfers unrelated? .

{Ed002's Note - Why do you have to try and complicate everything?}

2.) 01 Jan 2018 13:52:46
Cheers Ed002 and a Happy New Year to you!

3.) 01 Jan 2018 13:51:06
Brilliant, thank you Ed002, cheered me up after enduring a shopping trip to the sales with the missus (part of the bargain reached to baggsie the big TV for Everton match later)

Does anyone have any info or opinions about Mario, apart from his penchant for Italian food? )

4.) 01 Jan 2018 14:02:09
I'll take Joao Mario. Think he a decent player who will fit well into the team. Will it be a loan with a view to buy or a transfer?

5.) 01 Jan 2018 16:01:45
No worries Ed. Happy new yr to everyone.

6.) 02 Jan 2018 11:41:58
Paper talk for me on Mario definitely can see Jose trying for Savic tho.

12 May 2017 20:40:36
Rumours that Renato Sanches is unsettled / Maybe available for transfer. Sorry ed not listened to sharkopod yet but wondered if a move was possible this summer or any inkling that this might be the case and that Bayern would let him leave for similar money in return?

{Ed002's Note - He has been a disaster and if they could mug some club in to buying him they would - they are trying to get a replacement in. The player has not coped with the cultural change at all - Manchester United got lucky last year.}

1.) 13 May 2017 07:12:27
He's a 19 year old boy. Hopefully he will grow up to become the player he looks like he can be.

2.) 13 May 2017 08:56:40
Is he one of those players who are unwilling to adapt to a new country or is he homesick and will only ever be successful on the Iberian peninsula?

{Ed002's Note - It is not that he is unwilling it is that it can be very difficult to adapt where everything is cuturally different, where the language is a problem, where the food is different, where the weather is poor etc..}

3.) 13 May 2017 13:54:34
Never thought that joining Bayern was the best move for him, not surprised at all it hasn't worked out. Hopefully he get's back on track soon though, think he has great potential.

4.) 13 May 2017 14:32:19
I'd be delighted to have him. So dynamic, would compliment Pogba very well I think.

5.) 13 May 2017 15:04:24
Have you watched him this season fresh. He had a very good euros, was decent in the Portuguese league. Beyond that, he leaves a lot to be desired.

I'd rather a more experienced player with pedigree than sanches.

6.) 13 May 2017 16:00:44
He has so much potential but he just wasn't ready for such a high profile move. Probably lacks a bit of maturity. I watched a game on telly that he came on in, he looked lost. You're right ed, United definitely dodged a bullet there.
Hopefully he can get some good advice and make his next move right for him and realise his potential.

7.) 13 May 2017 16:56:19
25 games for a 19 year old at Bayern in his first season in a new country seems ok to me hope he is surplus and we take him cause the boy is a top talent but got to feeling he is playing understudy for next season its the Bayern way to ease talent in and let them grow. personaly i would like Nianggolon for midfield and if James Rodriguez is available him to. And Beloti looks perfect for the prem hope he on the radar but I know Jose will improve us dramatically no matter who the targets are, we have bags of cash and some big profile players leaving can't wait for the summer transfer window.

8.) 13 May 2017 18:52:17
I think he worth a chance for a reasonable fee, I wouldn't go over 25 million though, feel like Mourinho would look after him.

9.) 14 May 2017 08:23:41
Good point Shane - maybe the Portuguese connection would make him feel happier (though can't do anything about the rain! )

You'd think BM would've done more to help him settle in though, such as placing him with a Portuguese family/ privibding extra lessons at college. Maybe that's not how it works and I'm being naive - can't be easy for a young lad to adapt to a whole new situation, where everything would seem foreign.

10.) 14 May 2017 08:52:16
If he has struggled with language, food and weather then he will struggle just as much here so it probably wouldn't make sense spending big money on him right now. He may become great, he may not.

06 Jan 2017 12:07:46
Everton reportedly make a move for Manolas. wouldn't we be interested too if he's available unless other business is nearly done anyway.

{Ed025's Note - he wants a move to a big club who are going places supasub.. :)

1.) 06 Jan 2017 12:48:22
He is a Briiliant player, Everton will do very well to sign him

{Ed025's Note - its just speculation at the moment mate but i agree that he would be a good signing..

2.) 06 Jan 2017 12:58:51
Ok get it Ed. At least the biggest club in Merseyside is a step up.

{Ed025's Note - nothing wrong with dreaming mate.. :)

3.) 06 Jan 2017 13:53:43
So not signing for everton then ed. Though on a serious note will you be able to afford him?

{Ed025's Note - we have loads of dosh CSM, not only moshiri but now usmanov wants a piece of us and hes richer than abramovic!, the futures bright mate... the future is blue.. :)

4.) 06 Jan 2017 14:36:48
You still got that church in part of goodison Ed? It's been a while since I've thought about it, an old Everton fan about 30 years ago used to tell me they wouldn't move which has always hampered increasing the size of the stadium.

{Ed025's Note - St lukes is still there supasub and it has always been a thorn in the side of any expansion to the ground, but that wont matter now as we will be getting a state of the art stadium at bramley moor dock in the near future mate..

5.) 11 Jan 2017 13:05:47
I would have thought a church being so close to Goodison, was rather handy, Ed025 :)

{Ed025's Note - sadly my prayers have not been answered noucamp...liverpool are still in the premier league mate.. :)

Just a message to Ed002. I don't mind if you give us a rundown after the transfer window just to remove the strange 1 time posters who seem to ruin it for some of us. Take your time. We know your a busy person and I'm sure we can all be patient and wait for your update.
I've been here for a few years and don't want to be cheesed off by a few suspicious random posters.
Enjoy a g and t or a sip or champers and give your insight when your ready.

{Ed002's Note - I have been travelling for a month and I am either in my office or around the UK (oddly enough Manchester tomorrow night) most of the next two weeks - I will look to doing it late this week.}

1.) 12 Dec 2016 07:21:04
Thanks Ed, anything you can manage will be very much appreciated. You always sound so busy - hope you have a wonderful break over Christmas.

{Ed002's Note - You are terribly sweet.}

2.) 12 Dec 2016 07:50:01
thanks ed002.

3.) 12 Dec 2016 12:47:40
Hope you don't mind me asking, just a little curious

Is Ed02 a football agent or works within the Football Industry itself? I really enjoy reading all the Eds insite to what's happening regarding the Football World

Anyway Merry Christmas to all the Eds and everyone on here, all the best everyone.

4.) 12 Dec 2016 16:01:08

an early christmas present from Ed002

Thank you very much Ed002. Really looking forward to your update and insight into what the club are doing/ planning at this time of year and into the summer.

27 Nov 2016 15:00:51
So ed002 offers a bit of insight on lindelof and it's in the Sunday press. Do the journalists bother researching or just come here for a bit of info?

1.) 01 Dec 2016 11:25:15
i can't wait for Ed002's post/ podcast about Utd. Hope it comes soon:)

We lack intensity or increasing it against sides that like to press.

26 Jan 2018 10:39:41
Angel Gomes has travelled to my neck of the woods. Hope he gets some minutes. I know a couple of ex Yeovil players well and still couldn't get a ticket. Oh how times have changed.

1.) 26 Jan 2018 13:54:15
Hailing from Yeovil myself I’ve managed to score a ticket with a few local connections. Ecstatic as I didn’t manage to get one a couple of years ago. Would be brilliant to see Gomes get a few mins but really hoping Sánchez gets his debut on the hallowed turf of Huish Park. He’s been my favourite non-United player for years, so to see him step out tonight would be a dream.

07 Dec 2017 11:02:45
So an attacking player can wait next to the goal post behind the line and run on to the pitch and collect a long ball played up field as he's not in an offside position when the pass is played? Can someone please clarify?

{Ed001's Note - no, he would be offside. I don't think you are getting it, he would still count as part of the field of play, just like a defender ending up there does.}

1.) 07 Dec 2017 12:39:37
I get it ed, just playing devils advocate but why isn't the attacking player offside in the united game on tuesday (who has also gone off the pitch infront of blind) and daley blind is playing them all on when he is off the pitch?

{Ed001's Note - if you get it, why are you asking? Surely you know the rules now state that you have to actually be involved in the play, which he wasn't. If the ball had gone to him, then he would be counted offside, though the ball would be out of play anyway. It is the same reason why all the assistant's flags are now so late coming up, as they have to wait until the player actually touches the ball for them to be offside.}

2.) 07 Dec 2017 13:29:03
Didnt he play the pass though which would make him involved in the phase of play?

{Ed001's Note - is this a serious question? I am beginning to wonder now.....}

3.) 07 Dec 2017 14:51:23
It is ed. Apologies as I question things I don't fully understand. That's how I learn. I guess I'm sounding like the disruptive pupil in the class who still doesn't quite fully understand and carrys on regardless.

{Ed001's Note - no I just don't understand why you think him playing the pass when onside means he would be offside later? If all 10 other players on the side are offside it no longer matters so long as the one that scores is onside at that moment. If the player is behind the ball or the ball goes backwards, players cannot be offside, but they would be in an offside position when the ball goes in the net. It is not relevant.

Forget everyone else on the scoring player's team. All you have to look at is whether the goalscorer is offside, which he wasn't as Blind and the goalie are playing him on. Then you have to ask whether any attacking players were in the line of sight of the ball and so affecting the goalie's chance of saving the ball. There were none. So the goal stands as a good goal.}

4.) 07 Dec 2017 16:25:32
Supasub, that player wasnt interfering with play at the time.

5.) 07 Dec 2017 17:04:40
Imagine explaining that to the Mrs.

6.) 07 Dec 2017 17:45:27
Separate issue, but don't you think if the attacker isn't interfering then it should be the same for the defender :D.

{Ed001's Note - no, that doesn't make any sense, everyone there has to be interfering with play and they should drop the not interfering with play thing as it is nonsense.}

7.) 07 Dec 2017 18:10:07
Thats true Ed. If one is offside no matter how close to the ball they should be offside.

{Ed001's Note - agreed as they have to be interfering with play or the defence would not bother holding a line to try and catch them off.}

8.) 07 Dec 2017 21:06:25
Ed001 that's ridicules mate. If a winger beats his man gets to the by line and cuts the ball back for his striker to finish from the six yard box then the winger that pulls the ball back would be in an off side position on the by line when his striker shoots . Or a corner taker can be often be in an offside position if a goal is scored from his corner. You can't give offside for that.

Actually the phrase interfering with play has been removed. A player will now only be deemed offside if he makes a move towards or attempts to play the ball from offside position. This is the reason we see so many of those infuriating late linesmens flags as they are waiting for the player to play or attempt to play the ball before they flag. There is a caveat that if an offside player is obstructing the keepers view and jumps over or dummies a shot the ref can give offside if he seems that the player has sought to gain an advantage from that offside position.
It's a law that needs more clarity that's for certain.

{Ed001's Note - no he wouldn't, I just said I would remove the interfering with play thing, they still wouldn't be in an offside position as the ball would be going backwards and the receiving player would be onside. A shot at goal does not count as a pass mate, so it would only be players in the keepers eye line and in the way of the ball that could potentially be offside by attempting to make it a pass.}

9.) 08 Dec 2017 07:39:35
But you agree with fzz weekend he said any player should be deemed offside no matter how far they are away from the ball.

12 Nov 2017 13:32:59
How about someone start talking about the next game or two. I know it would be a little out of the box thinking, bordering on revolutionary for some people at the moment.

1.) 12 Nov 2017 14:57:36
We have got to get back on track straight away. We need to put a run of 4 or 5 back to back wins together just to stay with city. Hopefully pogbas return will help knit the team together again and we will see a pick up In form from miki lukaku valencia mata and rash. It won't be long until we see ibra back and i think having him as an option either from the bench or to rest lukaku will give the squad a huge boost.
Not all doom and gloom as far as I'm concerned still in a decent position and if we can keep our 1st 11 fit more often than not then we can put a good run together beteeen now and xmas.

2.) 13 Nov 2017 02:09:13
We have an easy run of a few games before we play Arsenal, need to win all of them as Ken says.

I'd like to see Martial given a start in each of them.

3.) 13 Nov 2017 09:00:57
Rashford lukaku and martial should all be starters.

4.) 13 Nov 2017 13:08:46
Interesting you think Watford away will be an easy game Beast. No games are easy in this league, 3 wins in the next 3 would be very impressive and get us back on track.

5.) 13 Nov 2017 14:28:54
Yes Watford should be a piece of cake, they have gone off the boil and on paper we are far superior, we also have a far superior manager (on paper) and they have Cleverley.

3-0 even if Jose deploys his usual tactics against formidable opponents like Watford!

6.) 13 Nov 2017 19:13:37
Yep really handy team Watford now. Silva not a bad coach at all might end up in our dugout in 'MANY'years from now😆😆.

07 Oct 2017 12:20:13
Slow week so opinions for anyone who has got nothing to do. Best Scandinavian player to play in premier league and best one who's played for United. I'm half Swedish so a bit biased when it comes to Swedes particularly Zlatan who put on a united shirt years too late. I can think of Ronnie Johnson, Blomqvist (spelling)?, Henning berg, obviously Zlatan and when I was younger, Jesper Olsen.
Other teams I think of are Glen Hysen, Dahlin (did he play for blackburn? and Brolin etc.

1.) 07 Oct 2017 12:39:40
Best Scandavian to play in the league and for United has to be Peter Schmeical.

I think the best Swede to play in the premier league was Ljundberg, a good player on his day.

2.) 07 Oct 2017 12:49:04
Big pete stands head and shoulders above the rest.
Outfield i loved olsen but he never really delivered consistently.
Ronnie johnson was terrific and a key member of the treble winning squad.
Zlatan has not been here long enough nor was henrik larrson but both of them i would lo e to have had here for their peak years.

3.) 07 Oct 2017 12:50:52
Not forgetting ole who was just about the perfect player in any squad.

4.) 07 Oct 2017 13:28:30
Forgot Pete and ole somehow. At work and was bored with the international week. My point as well was that Scandinavians always seem to do well and be consistent in british football. They love our football more than any other leagues and are used to the climate. I'm surprised even more don't play as they always seem to pretty much work out. There was Rommedahl? At Chelsea too who was very quick but a bit flimsy. One of the best wingers around at the time.

5.) 07 Oct 2017 15:34:53
Tore Andre Flo wasn’t bad.

6.) 07 Oct 2017 16:09:26
Yes he was.

7.) 07 Oct 2017 18:11:16
Loved Olsen and Ronny but I really enjoyed Henrik laarsons little cameo.

8.) 08 Oct 2017 04:35:09
eidur gudjonsen was a fantastic player. i remember him never been sold while chelseas got abhram oil money. he lasted a few managers.

9.) 08 Oct 2017 09:18:34
Henrik Larson wasn't bad.

10.) 08 Oct 2017 10:16:44
Brolin was a weird one. Looked fantastic for Sweden, went to Leeds and piled on the pounds (kilos! ) and was totally crap.
Ronnie Johnsen was brilliant and deserves a bit of a shout but Schmeichel hands down for me. Legend.
Worst? Kroldrup. Though he would get a few games at Everton now I reckon.

11.) 08 Oct 2017 11:43:43
The worst has to be Bjorn Kvarme (apologies for the spelling) .

Even my Liverpool friends say he's the worst player to grace the premier league!

No, he's house hunting in Madrid as it's already agreed he'll go in the summer for £85 million so that we at least get out money back and relieve us of the burden of having him in the squad. To sweeten the deal Madrid will chuck in a metre long stick of chorizo.

What is the level of grading to label a player as "deadwood", how does a player get into the deadwood bracket? And what are the other levels of player if 1 level has a category of dead wood?

It was a red all day long, reckless and over the ball. We've said lately that it's ironic that city want protection and then behave like they did. Guardiola didn't like the Wigan managers reaction because he knew that it was exactly how guardiola would react if it were the other way round. I also thought the diving and screaming of Danilo and Bernardo Silva in particular was shameful.
None of it will get mentioned though. Then comments at the end of the game saying they've knocked out one of the best teams we've seen ever? Wtf is that about? They could have a mighty fall.

Defending and pressing starts from the front. A combative/ pressing midfielder is useless if the rest of the team aren't doing a job.
