Qatari Royal family trying to buy Manchester United apparently. Be very surprised if Glazers sold without legacy bonuses or whatever.

1.) 02 Sep 2017 20:42:44
Old story doing the rounds from 2011. i think the glazers will see through one more round of tv deals at least before selling.

2.) 02 Sep 2017 21:05:14
Yes I have no doubt this is regurgitated news. And I think with Brexit we will have the Glazers for many more years. Just my opinion.

3.) 03 Sep 2017 02:43:49
Surely Brexit and the resulting weak pound makes it a more attractive proposition? Or would it be purchased in dollars as it's listed on the NYSE?

4.) 03 Sep 2017 09:10:58
Unless after seeing how transfer fees have gone this year they don't want to be spending 300 million every summer.

5.) 03 Sep 2017 11:40:55
USD probably going to be smashed soon, (already getting hammered), so whilst GBP and USD are weak it may be an opportune time for a deal. Especially with Qatar sanctions and other geo-political problems emerging in Qatar they may want to act quickly to secure more solid overseas assets that aren't dependent on natural gas for example.

6.) 03 Sep 2017 13:14:44
Im sure Ed002 mentioned maybe 18 month back that the Glazers were actually looking to sell around now, can any of the Eds confirm this?

{Ed002's Note - The exchange rate has shelved plans most foreign owners had for selling for now.}

20 Aug 2017 22:57:23
Ibrahimovic to sign next week, but Lukaku to remain the main striker.

This would indicate he'll be fit before January.

1.) 21 Aug 2017 06:26:47
Did the ed not say the return of ibra would mean the end of martial?

2.) 21 Aug 2017 08:14:11
I don't think Martial and Ibra play in the same position. I do think Martial and Rash are strikers, but will be used as wingers, so that leaves Lukaku as our only striker. It make sense to have at least 2 natural strikers.

3.) 21 Aug 2017 12:30:38
I don't see how, Martial will continue to operate from the wide left and Jose has said what a change there has been in Martial.

4.) 23 Aug 2017 13:52:14
wouldn't be the end and is quite laughable to even suggest it.
Ibra is purely another option as he isn't like the other strikers we have.

20 Aug 2017 19:19:12
Ibra to sign next week. Lukaku will remain first choice.

Does this mean he's back sooner than first thought?

1.) 20 Aug 2017 21:05:14
I hope he is 2nd choice and his ego doesn't demand a starting spot, we look miles more fluid and dangerous on the counter without him.

2.) 20 Aug 2017 21:17:29
Agreed, not a bad player to have on the bench though. And the other players love him so he is no problem in the dressing room. Not this one anyway. We already have a massive team, imagine chucking him and Fellaini on for set pieces when we need a goal. Along with all the other tall lads in the side.

3.) 20 Aug 2017 22:52:39
Great news. can't have too many winners knocking about the place. i'm sure he has been made aware of the pecking order. The players do appear to love him and what he brings. It also gives us a more like for like replacement if lukaku gets injured so we won't have to alter the way we play.
He brings a lot to the camp and is a good example for the young lads to follow. A great option off the bench he scores goals.

4.) 20 Aug 2017 23:49:22
I woulsnt want him if it means we will lose Martial.

5.) 21 Aug 2017 03:49:44
Could he play 10 behind Lukaku? Could push Miki back out wide again. Can't see Ibra sitting on the bench when fit.

6.) 21 Aug 2017 06:23:02
Look a better team with out him.

7.) 21 Aug 2017 07:50:50
I think resigning him is okay if its about squad rotation. i would not want to see rash or martial's place compromised in the line up as we lose a lot of our speed and things slow down when ibra is in the line up.

I think if we sign him it will be on our terms.

8.) 21 Aug 2017 08:50:14
Push Mikki back out wide? Is that the Mikki that has four assists in two games playing centrally, won German league player of the year playing number 10 in a non Bayern Munich team and is far less effective as a wide player?

9.) 21 Aug 2017 09:37:49
Can't argue with that Man from Manc. Miki has looked immense in his actual position. Funny that.

10.) 21 Aug 2017 12:06:27
I agree completely that Miki is best played centrally. I would not change the starting line up right now, other than maybe a wide right player for Mata. Or a fully fit and on form Shaw at left back.

I was just suggesting where Jose might play Ibra of he is back fit. I think he will start more games than not.

11.) 21 Aug 2017 12:18:32
I don't think Zlatan coming back will have any impact on Martial. Martial hasn't played up front under Jose. We're short on numbers on out and out strikers. This is a welcomed addition!

11 Aug 2017 22:48:19
Bruno Amorim, another Bebe type signing?

1.) 11 Aug 2017 23:28:56
Think its more for the under 23s than the first team.

2.) 12 Aug 2017 06:12:30
Sydney. Good to c u again posting regularly. Done with your sabbatical?

3.) 12 Aug 2017 11:36:14
Why not? Mendes hasn't flogged is a player for a while. Lol.

31 May 2015 19:30:11
Rumour has it we are close to signing Schneiderlin.

1.) 31 May 2015 19:41:06
Potentially great news.

2.) 31 May 2015 20:05:39
I'd happily pay 25million for him. Great replacement for Carrick.

3.) 31 May 2015 20:28:28
Yet to see it reach main stream media, I always feel a bit better when Sky report it - seems to make it seem a little more real.

4.) 31 May 2015 20:54:01
Lately the forign media have been more on the ball than the English media. Like with Depay the dutch had him at utd whilst english media still had him signing for liverpool.

5.) 31 May 2015 21:20:50
British journos haven't had a clue since the Fergie regime, all their sources have dried up. Instagram has more accurate hit ratio than them.

Big players out:

We are forced to play a different way now.

{Ed025's Note - your not looking for excuses already are you sydney?, all teams have injuries mate you just have to get on with it, rashford cant be that injured if hes on the bench and mane is a massive loss to liverpool..

1.) 14 Oct 2017 12:01:35
No excuses, it's more about the shock loss of Bailly that's bothered me slightly. Smalling or Bailly? We already knew Fellaini, Pogba, Rojo, Shaw and Ibra are out, but I wanted to see Bailly in that defence and Rashford in place of Young. Rashford replacing Mata would have been much more worrying for Liverpool than Young. If Rash was 100% he'd be playing ahead of Young.

2.) 14 Oct 2017 12:17:45
I think you under estimate how much faith Jose has in young to do his job.

Could be 5 3 2 with that line up, can switch quite easily.

3.) 14 Oct 2017 12:22:19
I'm expecting a 532 mate. Lukaku, Miki and Martial to counter with Herrera and Matic protecting. What I do know is this has been worked on at length according to Matic. We have a game plan and we now have to implement it.

4.) 14 Oct 2017 13:50:36
As I said, everyone was talking about this match as if it's an easy 3 pointer. We can see the opposite is true. We're not as good as we think we are and they're not as bad as some posters on here make them out.
If we walk out with a draw, I'll be delighted. Not likely though.

{Ed025's Note - i think its very likely mate..

5.) 14 Oct 2017 15:21:56
Ed025. We managed the draw but Liverpool were the only team likely to win.

{Ed025's Note - very much so mate..

11 Oct 2017 10:01:08
You have to wonder why a manager would play a player with an ankle injury when the team has already qualified and won the group and are already 3.0 up with 20 mins to go. Is the manager a moron? Surely you let the ankle heal?

1.) 11 Oct 2017 10:07:40
It was a pretty stupid thing to do, I suspect Lukaku may now develop "niggles" before future internationals.

2.) 11 Oct 2017 10:29:43
Lukaku would have wanted to play. But the manager has to use common sense and no football would have been more beneficial to all sides, player, Belgium and Manchester United.

3.) 11 Oct 2017 12:02:08
Its ridiculous to say the least but that is Roberto Martinez for you .

4.) 11 Oct 2017 12:43:05
The manager is an idiot. Simples.

5.) 11 Oct 2017 13:44:25
There was a story about someone phoning Martinez and asking him to rest Fellaini and Lukaku.

His decision to play Lukaku while he was recovering from an injury and in a game that was meaningless (not only did they not need to win, they were 3-0 up when he threw Lukaku on) .

It feels a little like spite, like he wants to show that no one can tell him what to do. It's a risky decision, because all games between now and the summer are friendlies which he will need to use to get his team used to playing together and to integrate younger or inexperienced players to get them ready in case they are needed next summer. I highly doubt Fellaini or Lukaku will be available for those games now. I expect they will have a knock in training or in a match just before any friendlies taking them out of contention.

It just shows a lack of either experience or common sense from Martinez. I expected more from him.

6.) 11 Oct 2017 14:16:38
I wouldn't be at all surprised if Jose called Martinez after the Fellaini injury and they had an argument. Then the Lukaku bit was done in spite. Doesn't really matter now, but very petty if this was the case.

7.) 11 Oct 2017 15:33:16
Agree with Shappy. Martinez has that ego about him and usually wants to display authority. What’s the use of authority when there is no brains present? You just have to ask the current US President 😂😂😂.

8.) 11 Oct 2017 18:29:04
I'd love to have no brains and be a billionaire, imagine if he had brains.

23 Sep 2017 17:57:37
Wow how bad was that Keeping from Schmeichel? Not getting to his post quick enough for the Salah goal and why would you position yourself there for a Coutinho free-kick. Why leave a huge gap like that when you know it's going into the top corner? The only reason I can think is he wanted to build himself up for a world-class save. Piss poor from a EPL keeper. Almost as bad as Mignolet. :)

1.) 23 Sep 2017 19:14:31
Vardy penalty, made mingolet look a decent Keeper terrible penalty.

23 Sep 2017 14:11:01
Have to say I am happy not to see Gabbiadini in the starting line-up. He scares me a little I have to say. Always looks like scoring against us. VVD on the bench too, another threat from corners on the bench so good news.

Not sure about this game, it could be a toughie or with an early goal a rout. let's wait and see I guess. But exactly the line-up I was expecting. With Martial, Lingard and Herrera on the bench we have some great cover.

1.) 23 Sep 2017 16:33:58
Smalling on, looks like we are protecting the 1.0 scoreline. Hope it works.

28 Aug 2017 23:23:56
Is it me or is Pogba and Lukaku starting to look cheap now? I mean if Everton had waited and Pogba went this summer. How much would they have been sold for?

1.) 29 Aug 2017 07:13:13
Very much so Syd, when you see Dembele go for near £100m, Neymar £198m which is ridiculous, £138m for Coutinho, What you see bandied about for VvD, just average players for high fees etc. £75m rising to £90m for a Prem proven striker seems pretty good to me.

2.) 29 Aug 2017 12:11:37
We should not not lose sight of how utterly ridiculous all these fees are. The cost of tickets, shirts, hotdogs, tv subscriptions etc etc all go up to generate money to pay inflated fees. The ordinary fan loses out.

3.) 29 Aug 2017 13:19:01
Dodgy, have ticket costs risen much in the last 5 years? If the hotdogs are too expensive, don't buy them! They're full of crap anyway. Or purchase them from one of the independent vendors on the way to the ground. Yes, the cost of TV subscriptions have risen and been made more complex, but it's still a lot cheaper than going to the games - and at least you can watch. Once upon a time there were no live games on tele! You don't have to buy the shirts either.

The increase in revenues driving the higher transfer fees is predominately made up from global expansion and has not affected the domestic fan going to games that much.

4.) 29 Aug 2017 15:25:53
My initial reaction to the Neymar deal was that it was insanity; but when you consider that City spent £50m on a mediocre player like Walker a little earlier in the window it doesn't seem all that bad. Even ignoring the marketing potential an elite player like Neymar carries with him, I'd sooner have one Neymar than four Kyle Walkers on the pitch any day of the week.

5.) 29 Aug 2017 15:54:52
I'm sorry but 90 million for pogba I'd say neymar was a steal at just over double that, Ines world class and changes games on his own, the other is a work in progress who was absent for a lot of last year. But the fact doesn't change these price tags are mental, but it's not our money so why worry?

6.) 29 Aug 2017 16:26:40
Good of you to say pogs world class. Bit harsh on neymar mind.

Ed002, Oh okay, I thought with Arsenal being in the Europa. Have rules been changed in recent times or has this always been the rule?

{Ed002's Note - they changed.}

I think with it coming down to signing on fees and wages. We as a club can match anyone so would be very surprised if we didn't contact either player via their representatives and let them know our interest. What we would be willing to offer them. Whether they were interested is another matter.

He's eligible for UCL football so I can see this happening. He would play midfield where we are short. Three man midfield at times with Pogba and Matic. Competition for Herrera.

Doubt we'd pay £50m for him if he wasn't going for cheap, but as a bargain we will go for him. Maybe even Sanchez too with City being his most likely destination.

{Ed002's Note - He isn't eligible for CL.}

When a great player like Griezmann becomes available and asking for the MU move (If true), then you sign him. Worry about where to play him afterwards. He'll clearly replace Mata in the side. However it's a squad game and I'd rather lose Ibra in the squad and sign Griezmann. I think then we are as good as any side in Europe on paper.

It's quite funny really. I remember the reasons people didn't want Jose here as manager and they were that he plays negative football, he builds teams for short term IE wants players 29/ 30 and ready for NOW, not in the future and that he only sticks around for a couple of years. Well you have to say people's reasons were correct.

You are correct, you can always improve a team and a manager will always want to add players, but we have holes in ours which Jose will want to fix this summer and if we had a sugar daddy owner would have fixed last summer. I think this time next year we will have a side Jose is happy with. Shappy mentioned Rose, Fabinho and Griezmann the other day. I think these three are players Jose wants and would go straight into our line-up if they were signed.

Good time to manage PSG, they are on the brink of dominating football for a few years. I also don't think Jose is happy that it's taking so long for him to assemble the team he's trying to build. Big season this one. I think MU will need to spend big next summer to keep Jose happy. I also think one more huge spend is needed this summer to be up there with best in Europe. We have a good squad, but our first XI could be better.

15 Oct 2017 18:55:33
Why would anyone visit an inferior team with a team you have assembled with hundreds of millions, to go there and park 10 players in the penalty area? Is that what Pep would do? I get doing it when you are missing 3-4 key players and not having the team you want yet (finalised team built by him), but you don't go to play an inferior team with the superior side you have built (chosen) and manage one shot on target. That would be embarrassing. Yesterday was embarrassing, but I could understand it with Bailly, Pogba, Fellaini out and Rash and Jones not 100%.

He hasn't always done this Jred, you are wrong.

And last season we were even further behind in transition.

This winter and next summer Jose should have his chosen team.

Left-back finally sorted, Right attack and probably a CM/ RB and CB.

This team is not complete yet. It was always going to take a few summers to get the team he wanted.
