Jordan Pickford the Sunderland keeper has been rumoured to be a Liverpool target. What do you guys think about him? I really like the way he defends his goal. To me he has all the attributes to be a top keeper.

herefordred

{Ed025's Note - hes good hereford but you have to consider that hes playing for sunderland and will be involved most of the time as their defence is crap, so law of averages means he will make a lot of saves mate..

1.) 03 Apr 2017 21:40:58
He's still young and makes plenty of mistakes. He's english and therefore gets overhyped. Could be good, but needs proper coaching.

2.) 04 Apr 2017 12:05:54
Mignolet looked a beast at Sunderland, look at him now.

Got to laugh inside futbol trying to hint that Sneider been talking to Jose and that a move to Man Utd is a possibility. Seems only when the guy collects his pension will the rumours cease.

Talk sh1t report Jose agrees terms with Utd to become next manager. Quelle Surprise.

Rooney not on plane to Denmark?

herefordred

1.) 13 Feb 2016 12:42:06
Ozil isn't a Jose type player.

2.) 17 Feb 2016 12:20:11
very young squad looks like we are going to play the kids.

3.) 17 Feb 2016 14:51:36
jred,

Not really, a few kids on the plane but I imagine they will be on the bench. No CBJ in the squad or recognised left back so we may see one of the young lads at left back or Blind there and McNair in the centre, but other than that, Herrera and Schneiderlin I expect to play, with Depay, Martial and Pereira, should be a decent side.

4.) 17 Feb 2016 15:40:53
gds
love, kean, poole riley perriera and weir.
so just 6 out of 16 outfield players.

mcnair, linders depay and martial are all getting in a bit.

5.) 17 Feb 2016 16:09:43
I would think 'playing the kids' means playing the youth team like we used to do in Carling Cup etc, I fully expect the team that starts to be 9/10 full internationals.

6.) 17 Feb 2016 16:20:52
gds
so with out naming any of the above who would be in your carling cup squad?

31 Jan 2016 00:28:21
The rumours about us signing anyone this window have really dried up. Does anyone know if Utd have any definite targets for the summer.

herefordred

1.) 31 Jan 2016 11:27:39
Renato Sanches is the only thing going on it seems. £30 million seems very steep for an 18 year old though.

2.) 31 Jan 2016 15:30:52
It seems it would fall in the the current policy of targeting future superstars and paying a premium for the privilege. I personally have no interest in what a player costs the club can obviously afford it and I love the idea of getting all these young future stars in I really hope it happens.

3.) 31 Jan 2016 17:32:49
how is that the current policy? I can only think of Martial that fits the description. none of our other signings have been for the future.

4.) 31 Jan 2016 17:47:29
Sorry mate your right depay and Shaw were not bought for the future were they? Plus if you look beneath the bull in the press and read between the lines it doesn't take poirot to see the kind of players we are targeting.

No lack of effort tonight the team really tried. We lack the quality on the final ball, pass it forward too slowly but mainly we don't have someone with a real creative spark.

herefordred

1.) 04 Apr 2017 22:20:33
Too many long balls make us predictable.

2.) 04 Apr 2017 22:01:10
Its not that herefordred.
No way Fellaini deserves to start ahead of any midfielder in our team. He could have had a hattrick today.
We need to play 4-2-3-1 again.
Put Pogba and Herrera in the middle, Mkhi ahead of them and flank with Rashford and Martial.

Shaw looked very comfortable in possession, and was always looking to get the ball, he's a real asset attacking wise, and he and Martial would absolutely work on the left. similary rashford on the right with Valencia, with Rashford cutting in. This is the team to go.

15 Mar 2017 20:31:43
City looking totally lost at the moment and this without Falcao against them. More of the same please Monaco.

herefordred

1.) 15 Mar 2017 21:01:36
Pity they seem to have taken their foot off the gas and City obviously got a rocket from the Messiah.

14 Mar 2017 11:21:31
Just wondering how many of you think we will now finish top four? I cannot see it happening and wonder just how damaging it will be to our attempts to attract the best players and also worry that being in the Europa League next season will again be detrimental to our league title hopes.

herefordred

1.) 14 Mar 2017 11:42:22
I think we will finish 5th, but feel we will win the Europa League. If that's the case then I don't see it effect us that much at all.

2.) 14 Mar 2017 11:44:17
I think we can get top 4

Arsenal are potentiality on a verge of a meltdown and I can see them choking as usual, which could lead to end of the Wenger, the fans seem to be more intent getting rid of Wenger then supporting the club to a top 4

Liverpool are going through a inconsistent period I don't think they will have the legs to finish strong

Chelsea are likely to win the league unless they drop some results quickly (unlikely) The most consistent team in the league, getting the results

Spurs should see out either 2nd or 3rd place

City should be the other team, the key to them is keeping Aguero, Silva etc. injury free, I think City really struggle without Aguero

Overall I think 4th place is achievable, also to consider we could win the Europa League which could become more of a priority if we say lose the next 2 leagues game, I think we will finish strong.

3.) 14 Mar 2017 11:52:46
Same argument is banded about around this time of the season about how we need champions league to attract players.

When you look at it in simple terms we've signed better player out of the champions league than not.

4.) 14 Mar 2017 12:00:41
True DSG, have to understand that realistically now only the top Premier League teams, Barca, Madrid, Bayern, PSG can only compete with us in terms of spending money on players

The Premier League TV deal will eventually destroy the foreign leagues, United got Pogba because we outbid Madrid by 20 million.

5.) 14 Mar 2017 12:03:39
Actually I have a concern about Spurs, they often finish the season poorly and not just under Pochettino. Remember lasagne gate? They are choke artist. Add to Pochettino demanding so much physically from his teams that they are just exhusted come the run in. Now they may have lost Kane for a while, possibly until the end of the season.

Chelsea will cruise to the title as no one will challenge them, we are too far back, Liverpool, City and Arsenal are too inconsistent and like I said I have a feeling Spurs will crumble.

6.) 14 Mar 2017 12:20:06
I think we will find it tough. As it stands in May we have Arsenal, Spurs and City away from home. All very hard games. We also still have Chelsea at home. Another potential banana skin is Burnley away as they have shown to be very resolute at home.

I think finishing in the top 4 following this run in would give me more confidence about how we are going to be next season than winning the Europa League would. As we will have to pick up points away to the other top sides in the league when they are also fighting for a top 4 spot. We've got 12 games left in the league and in my opinion to guarantee top 4 we will need at least 7/ 8 wins.

So far in the Europa League we've beaten sides we should beat. I'd expect this to continue against Rostov on Thursday. While there are some good sides left in the competition I think we'd all be disappointed if we went out to the likes of Shakhtar or Roma even though they are good it's not like they are among the very best in Europe. However, beating the likes of City, Arsenal and Spurs away from home in big games where both sides are fighting for top four would show we are able to play against the best sides in our league in high stakes games and come out on top.

Despite all I've said I see us finishing 5th and winning the Europa League.

Hats off to the St Etienne supporters didn't stop singing all night even when 4-0 and they knew there was no way back. Shame we don't have that attitude and level of support at Old Trafford.

herefordred

1.) 23 Feb 2017 07:42:38
After seeing them at OT live they are now my second team - great support almost Turkish like.

14 Jan 2017 22:22:51
Like a lot of posters am nervous but excited for Sunday. I obviously want to win but whatever the result it's just part of the rebuilding process. We still need a few more players to get back to the top. Tomorrow should be like a cup final for both teams and the atmosphere should be red hot. I desperately want to win but I also want a fast paced open game which shows the Premier League at its best

herefordred

1.) 14 Jan 2017 22:30:13
I grnuinely think it will be a hard fought game with a lot of tension and bad temper and 3 goals at least.

I have called 3-1 utd liverpool score first

Dont think it will b a draw!

I really think the amount of money said to being offered is almost beyond belief. More than that if it is true then it's obscene. I know it's the law of supply and demand but frankly it's about time there was a cap on salaries and transfer fees. When millions around the world starve daily and footballers are paid more for a week's "work" than many people will earn in a lifetime then something is seriously wrong. We as fans are as much responsible for this madness as anyone else. If we didn't such stupid amounts for tickets, TV subscriptions and almost yearly shirt changes then reality might bite. I am in my mid 50s and have supported Utd for almost five decades. I have seen some of the games greatest ever players, the games greatest manager and been to wonderful matches home and away. I love Utd but something has to be done.

I recall Ed 02 saying the move was too early and so it has proved to be but surely having been at Utd for a while now he should have learned a few lessons. It's a real shame because the lad is undoubtedly talented and has shown it in flashes. I really hope he does well at Lyon matures and comes back to Old Trafford and lights up the place

Should meet my missus! She can be very hard to get past. Seriously though I know that it's vvv hard to find a top defender but we do need.

Like Rashford he is a young player and he needs time and a decent run in the time to gain confidence and play to his full potential.

He should never have been sold and as mentioned it was not Jose who sold him. That said he is nowhere near the finished article yet and we really do need top defensive reinforcements. In a few years he might reach the top but right now it's a gamble.

Ed 25 agree with most of your posts tonight. On paper we have a very talented squad yet we are rarely incisive why do you think that is.

herefordred

{Ed025's Note - for me its the manager hereford, i know most will not agree with me but jose has never been a coach associated with flair and attacking prowess, he is a grinder out of results and for me does not fit the united ethos, he has certainly improved united but moyes and louis von frankenstein were hardly a hard act to follow mate..

Interesting dilemma on the one hand our DNA means we should always seek to play attacking football on the other hand there has to be a time to be pragmatic. If we scratch a win against Chelsea and then go on to win the Cup in the final playing free flowing football who will care how we got to the final.
