Just read an interesting rumour that we are in for Townsend of Spurs. Not sure I think there is any legs in that story, but I can see us doing some business today.

samthered

1.) Id rather do no business than sign him

2.) No more Spurs player please.

Job done. Now that's finish the season on a high and get all our transfer targets in early so us fans can enjoy the summer. :)

After feeling like the world had ended last night, my senses have returned and I have been thinking about our current predicament. Firstly, after losing three on the bounce, we can still tie up 4th place next week if Chelsea beat Liverpool - job done. The angst we all are feeling atm will disappear like a fart in the wind. But, IMO, the manager needs to change the formation if Carrick is still unavailable.

With Carrick in the side, those nice triangles on the left and the right become so effective because Fellaini and Herrera are moving into the channels, which allows for the wide forwards and full backs to over power the opposition in those areas. But Carricks absence has meant that Fellaini and Herrera are having to play altered roles because the midfield has no natural holding player. That is my take anyway.

Yesterday games was crying out for width. The selection, IMO, was all wrong. Mata should have been played in CM alongside Herrera. We didn't need a deep lying player in the team against a WBA team whose game plan basically confined them to their own half for large periods of the game. We could have gotten away with playing Herrera, Mata and Di Maria in the middle, and played Januzaj on the right side: Januzaj, for his faults, is very good at stretching the full backs. And considering WBA played with 4 CB's, I think Januzaj would have had a field day down the right.

Palace - although they will be more forward thinking considering the pace they have on the flanks - will pretty much set up the same as WBA, so we can afford to play three offensive thinking CM players if Carrick is still unavailable, or play an out and out 442.

A lot of people are saying that the system LVG is trying to implement has been found out; but I think those people are talking .ollocks. The system is fine. It works. But it only works when certain players are present in the side. With better quality players in the team and more pace up front, we will be a very effective outfit playing the system the manager is currently implementing; and, IMO, will bring us success both domestically and in Europe.

I am going to remain positive and say that we will rise to the occasion next week and secure those three points. We have too. Failure is not an option!

the system works fine we just need the right players ?
how much will messi neymar suarez iniesta and co cost.
.
im a fan of carrick but in a game that we had 80 % possession and played most of the game in there half i'm not sure what difference he would of made.

2.) 03 May 2015 18:31:39
Carrick playing, as I explained in the above post, would have allowed Herrera and Fellaini to pick up positions between the CB and Full back, which they did so well against Spurs, City, Liverpool and Villa.

It isn't coincidence that we have failed to score in the three games Carrick has been absent. The structure, build up and position of the players has changed, which has been detrimental to the side.

We don't need messi, neymar and suarez to make it work better - although that would be nice; we just need players who can play the roles being asked of them to a high standard. That means players who have pace, good movement and a decent football brain.

Stick an inform Di Maria and another pacey winger on the other side, and you watch us go next season. Of course, we need to invest in more quality CM players who can perform a similar role to Carrick, as we have been found wanting in that department.

It is a game of opinions and it is my opinion that LVG will turn us into a very good football team if he can get the right players to fulfill his vision. But first we need to get three points next week, and I don't care how we get them. We just need to get them and get CL football secured. Once that happens, things will kick into gear nicely.

3.) 03 May 2015 19:00:22
Sam,as much as I've supported lvg,I think next week,we'll be heading for a hiding. Can't see us getting anything from that game. Even before we lost 3 on the trot, I had marked out this game as a loss. We have a bad record there and that won't change next week.
Manager has gone into hos cage just the time we need him to bite. If we go there trying to play possession, then we're in for a big loss. If we go there to hit on the break, then we might stand a chance.

4.) 03 May 2015 19:27:18
A hiding against Palace? Are you serious? I don't share your view. We will either win the game or lose to the solitary goal as a consequence of being caught on the break or them scoring from a set piece. They just won't have enough of the ball to give us a hiding. That is what's so effing frustrating: teams are beating us with only 30 + percent of the ball. We are not being outplayed, or even out thought. We are just struggling to execute the killer pass in the final third which has more to do, IMO, with not having MC in the side, which allows the others in CM to pick up threatening positions.

Football is fickle. Yes, we don't look like we could score atm, but we could also end up winning our last three games and scoring a ton of goals, such is the nature of our season.

Have some faith mate.

I think next Saturday's game against Palace is massive. Not only in terms of finishing in the top 4, but also for the manager's future. Win, and we almost certainly guarantee CL next season. Lose, and the manager's tenure at the club will come under close scrutiny; and could lead to some knee jerk reactions from those above.

I for one think the manager is the right man for the job. I don't agree with everything he does; and I am sometimes baffled by his decisions; but in the main, I think he has does a decent job. But, like Ed002 alluded too in the past, I believe there are those at the higher echelons of the club who would probably like to see the back of LVG; and four loses on the bounce would give them powerful ammunition, especially as Klopp has become available.

The manager's mettle is going to be tested. He needs to breath some life back into the side, as the teams confidence will be down after today. We need to go into next week game and give it everything. The players need to find that fire and urgency again. If they can do that, we will get the three points IMO.

Wow. A few weeks ago I was on top of the world. We were playing great stuff and were looking like the real deal. Fast forward a few weeks and I am seriously beginning to think we will struggle to score let alone win any games.

Today's performance was poor from start to finish. We never stretched them at any time.

It feels like we are back to square one. The pressure on the next game against a Palace side who will play without pressure, will be massive. To make matters worse, we are so predictable.

I honestly believe that what I am seeing at the moment won't win us any more games this season. The manager needs to change it again. We need to get some width in this side and stretch teams.

Never thought I would be saying this, but the manager will be feeling the heat from upstairs; and with Kloop available next season, I can imagine that a few might be inquiring to what his summer plans are.

Depressing stuff. Is this the carrick effect?? 6 game winning streak with him, 3 game losing streak without him! Are we that reliant on him?? Anyone know when he's back?

2.) 02 May 2015 19:52:47
judge a team over a season
i think we have been average all year .
we beat spurs city and liverpool and ever sin was forgiven.

but there are issues with the manager and have been from day 1.
we should get 4 , but says a lot about the rest of the league imo

3.) 02 May 2015 20:14:44
The issues as far as I can see is that we found a formula which worked with a certain set of players - namely Carrick - who allowed like Herrera and Rooney to play in much better advanced positions.

In short: we need better players to make the system work.

According to sly sports footballing (lol) expert Paul Merson, there is nothing between United and Everton's first teams.

Just wanted to know what you guys think about that comment? I personally think the guy needs to change his medication. ;)

I think that a omen that we are winning.

Think he's fallen off the wagon again. He must be pi@@ed to make a comment like that. Maybe he's got a big bet on Everton and he's trying to convince himself he's bet on the right team?

Unless city offload one of their strikers, they won't be signing Falcao, IMO.

I think we could see another CM, a CB - depending on the Rojo situation - and a CF, because the lack of pace in the forward areas - plus the imminent departures of Welbeck and Hernandez - will leave us short up front.

To be honest Syd, I am not overly convinced we are going to push the boat out to sign Vidal. Maybe some informal offer was made and that offer was rejected, so the club have decided not to get involved in a protracted transfer drama?

I wouldn't put money on the guy joining us. That is just the way I see the situation at the moment.

Who cares!

Seriously, I am so sick of all this.

We have a top manager who knows what he is doing. Let the man get on with his job, and then let's judge. Besides, where would have Vidal fitted in, in the LVG system? Vidal is box to box, and would have to be used in a similar role to Herrera, who I personally think is a better - or will be better - than Vidal.

I have said it for a while that LVG will look to bring in a strong DM type player, as he will look to exploit the clubs attacking talent. A player like Vidal, who likes to get forward, might not work.

For me, I think the manager has done a good job. Yes, there are things he could have done better, but in the main - considering where we were last season - plus the ridiculous amount of injuries we have had this season - I think he has improved us all round. Also, the spirit and fight this team has now is a far cry from the lack luster performances we witnessed last season.

I think the possession game will work so much better when we have forwards with pace and who are direct. Hence why I believe Depay will be a breath of fresh air next season.

All in all, I am happy with how we are progressing, and believe we will be much stronger next season.

Beast, the lad is 21 years of age and has scored the highest number of goals in the Dutch league playing off the wing.
He was wanted by a number of top clubs because he is an exciting young player player who has a lot of talent. If we never paid the money, someone else would of, and we would have lost out on a player who could be world class in a few years.

I am cautiously optimistic about tomorrow. A big score in our favour would be nice, but I would be happy with a scrappy 1.0 win.
