Just my opinion but I think we will walk away from the Sancho deal and look to sign Grealish and a cheaper attacker like Brooks.
I would say the cost of those two would be similar to the cost of Sancho himself.
If this is the case then I don’t see us closing the gap on city or Liverpool and expect another battle for top 4. Not where we should be.

Your forgeting agents fees, and his agents will be looking around €50M per Ed002.

We'll have to see how it pans out. City and Chelsea seem to be making waves in the transfer market. Even if Liverpool stand still they will still finish comfortably above us.

The question is, is it worth blowing our whole budget on one player, or using that money to add much needed competition amongst the squad?

Ole hasn't quite got the grips of squad rotation yet. Probably the latter solution may be best considering his propensity to burn the first 11 out.

Mumbles,

Unfortunately when we get linked with good players to improve the squad people moan about them as well, just have to look at social media today to see the embarrassing posts about David Brooks.

David Brooks at the £20 million valuation would be a great addition to the squad.

The manager only fancies about 14/ 15 players which will cause problems over a long season with no break and injuries.

We need to be clever this summer. Money is finite and we don't know what's around the corner.

Someone like James Rodriguez to bolster the squad. Think a little outside the box.

This isn’t a dig at Brooks or Grealish but my main point is I don’t see how this would help close the gap.

You do have to weigh things up and as Mumbles mentioned, it may suit Ole that he maybe has some better squad players to rely on. I think you can also spin that and ask should he be getting better out of his squad? McTominay and Fred are not bad players. Ighalo has shown he can do a job for sure but has then been criminally underused. Why did we sign him on until January?

Ultimately, if you improve the first 11 then you improve the squad.
City, Bayern, Barcelona, Madrid all have amazing squad depth and that is mainly down to consistently signing quality players for their first 11. They are not worried about who gets upset in the squad. They are worried about being the best. We say we belong in the bracket of super clubs but IF we do decide to pass on Sancho and go for someone like Brooks, what does that say about our ambition to get back to the top? Brooks definitely does not help close the gap.

We signed Daniel James last year and ended up using him as a first team player. A 15m kid who clearly needed to be bedded in. We then had to use Greenwood, who again is a kid. He is an amazing talent but I do worry how much pressure we will be putting on him to perform.

If it’s not Sancho then I want us to go out and buy someone with similar ability.

I have no idea how much someone like Brooks would go for but reports say 40m. Grealish is being mentioned as an 80m player. I think we could find better value elsewhere in Europe. The obsession with British players is a bit strange.

Definitely not for me Amz. With Sancho you have a potentially world class player who improves first 11. With the other two you have squad depth. You don't close the gap buying average players for squad depth. Go for top players, that's the way.

Eric, iv used what's known as an analogy. Iv taken Chelsea and Man Citys transfer activity and used "wave" to show the momentum and the fact they seem to be constantly moving.

Anything else?

OP you just made up a hypothetical situation and from that decided we won’t finish top 4 😂

I think we will sign a quality RW, we’ve needed one for years. Interesting couple of months ahead.

Wazza, Ed002 has confirmed the alternatives we are looking at.

I’m only giving my opinion on what I think would happen if we didn’t sign someone like Sancho and went down the route of Brooks for example.

I said it would mean we would still challenge for the top 4 as we did this year. Not sure where I have said we would finish outside the top 4 😊

You never know. We may! Top 4 went down to the last game this year and Chelsea have already improved with some top signings. I hope you’re right and we do sign a quality right winger but if it’s not Sancho then I’m not sure who is available that is the same quality as him.

It's a tricky one to get right. Do you put all your eggs in one basket or spread the risk?

We could spend 120m on Sancho plus the 50m to his agent. Then in his first game he could do his knee in and be out for the season.

Then we would be faced with competing next season with the same squad as we had for this while all those around us have improved.

We have seen with Shaw, who was the most expensive teenager at the time, he took a year to settle. Then at the start of his second season he broke his leg and he has struggled for fitness ever since.

There comes a point where you decide a player is too expensive and too much hard work to pursue anymore. Both Real Madrid and Chelsea have already come to that conclusion with Sancho. I wouldn't hold it against our club if they came to the same conclusion.

Brooks and Grealish and we will win the Champions League and League double.

I would not want to be the one making the decisions when it comes to the this sort of money Shappy.

I just hope whoever we do sign is signed early so that they can bed in with their new teammates.

Not everyone will hit the ground running like Bruno.

I think brooks will help close the gap as we can rotate him in 2/ 3 positions without a very large drop in quality. Becomes invaluable in a condensed season with champions league football. We can’t have the wheels coming off after 10 games with the first 11 unchanged.

15.) 19 Aug 2020

The ed has said we are interested in sancho and grealish .
Both would cost a bob or 2 . Not sure where all this, we have no money or can't buy anyone else if we buy sancho talk has come from?
But it seems to be the same people who have originally argued we shouldn't buy him.

I will be amazed if we only buy 1 player this summer.

16.) 20 Aug 2020
19 Aug 2020 23:57:21
The argument was always Sancho and Grealish would cost upwards of £200 million. With the manager showing he can't rotate a team very well and is leajs to the press that the squad is poor, spending that much money on two players is ludacris.

Considering we've been deferring our loans and the uncertainty of what's around the corner. For half that amount of money and some sales, we could bring in 3 or 4 players that would help the manager achieve his goals next year. Because playing the same 11 week in week out and making subs on the 88th minute will probably get us till November before we're in the famous Ole downward spiral.

Yes Mumbles. City signing Scott Carson and another defender who cannot defend certainly has caused shockwaves. Not sure that’s the correct use of the word analogy but hey ho. This is a football site not grammar school.

jred its happened before with these idiots at the helm, moyes only got the wig, and jose only got fred,

both were sacked the same season.

we need quality players not just to make numbers to rotate.

we need a CB, CDM another CM, RW and even a striker.

Mumbles, you seem convinced that Ole just doesn't want to, or know how to, rotate the squad.

Look at the players he has to rotate with, players like Lingard and Andreas, who most of us can't wait to get rid of. In his position, would YOU be in a hurry to rotate players like Bruno or Greenwood for them?

I don't see the attraction of Brooks, he'd be an ok squad player, might become more in time, but just as likely he'll be the future Lingard. Buendia looks like a much better player IMO.

Sancho will sign. I can’t see the club letting this deal collapse.
