Ed, with the club looking at defensive midfield options do you know if they are planning on moving matic on? Still feel he is a very good player and if his minutes are managed well he can be very effective for us.

{Ed002's Note - Matic will stay another year.}

That’s good to know Ed. I think his experience could be very important to us.

I think the club wants Magic to transition into a coaching role, ideally.

Matic like Mata for me I am happy to keep for one year longer than is probably necessary. He still offers a decent amount when needed, good role model to either McTominy/ Fred, new addition or from the youth set up.

Have you seen him tonight, don't think he will survive another year.

I often think that ‘experience’ is misused. Just because he’s old and his legs have gone doesn’t mean he is any more experienced than Rashford whose player a couple of hundred matches in his early 20s. It’s certainly no reason to keep a player when their quality goes.

Fresh, of course it does. How many UCL semi finals/ finals has Rashford appeared in, how many league titles has he won?

Players like Matic and Mata offer something without even being on the pitch due to there years of experience at the top level.

We have a severe lack of experience running through the team. DDG, Lindelof, Maguire, Bailly, Telles, Pogba, Fred, Matic, Mata and Cavani are the only players in our squad over the age of 26. Of those only Telles, Pogba, Matic, Mata and Cavani can say they have any experience of challenging and winning the top honours.

Of those 5 Pogba wants out, while Matic, Mata and Cavani are all 32 or older and only have a year or two left in them. So we can't afford to just cull the experienced players as we lack leadership and experience.
