Having watched ole's united this season and the comments he has made, it is clear that ole doesn't have confidence in this current squad. One game sticks out and that is the game vs liverpool. Liverpool were there for the talking, on poor form but ole decided to set his team up with hand breaks on.

Beat liverpool and the belief would grow that this utd team can fight for the title. Ole lacks belief in this this, the question is if the board would pull that extra weight in big incomings or settle for champions league places .

Tukorish you know the answer I guess. Finishing top 4 is the priority and anything else is just bonus. We could see a few incomings but probably depends on where we finish and hopefully a lot of outgoings to free up some space.

Without sounding daft, but Ole's has allowed the team to play attackive football, hence the goals for and against.

We have played 9 games, since the start of Feb, mainly using the same 11, with the odd player rotation, coupled in with the fact thst Pogba (One of our most influencial players this season) has not played a part in any of those games.

It's not a case of lacking belief in his team, it's sheer tiredness.

I think Ole has lacked the skills to
To utilise possibly one, if not the strongest squad in the premier league.
Same formation week in, week out with the smae players starting. it's easy to be found wanting when other teams adapt.

"There’s going to be less transfers happening in the world of football with all these changes"

“The C.V. is definitely affecting everyone in football, the lack of finances, it’s affected everyone. All clubs in the world are going through the same situation so it’s no different for other clubs than for us. ”

“We have to be realistic and responsible in the way we do our business both on and off the pitch.

“There are improvements on the training ground, stadium - we have to look at the whole picture.

“Where can we spend the money? And how much is there? It’s just the real world now. It has changed. ”

“You can look at it in different ways with a rebuild. We also have players in the academy that we now can maybe give opportunities for. ”

These are Ole's comments from his press conference yesterday. Don't expect much spending this summer.

The decision makers are lowering our expectations for transfers.
It's not like we are Burnley or Brighton working on a limited budget, we are one of the top 3 biggest revenue generating club in the world.

TrueRedDevil, the reality is that any club other than those that have mega wealthy sugar daddy owners who can just prop their team up will have suffered huge reductions in revenue over the past year and will continue to do so over the next 6 months.

18 months of lost match day revenue. For United that is around 3m for each home game. There will be at least 40 home games worth of lost revenue. So that is a ball park figure of 120m in lost revenue. Then there is a reduction in some sponsorship deals, delays in TV payments etc. It's not that much of a stretch to think that it's probably cost the club 150-180m in lost revenue.

We delayed a repayment on the loan a couple of years ago to spend the money on signings instead.

So there is repayments owed, while revenue is down somewhere between 30-50%.

I said previously that I would be surprised if we spent over 100m this summer. Going by recent comments it might be much lower than that.

Shappy it's swings and roundabouts.

We're a lot more comfortable than the vast majority of senior football clubs and a lot of them will have to move players on at a lot less than they would have received two years ago.

It sounds like the excuses are already out to me, and we're set for another summer like last year. While we could be quite astute in the transfer market and picket some bargains from clubs in financial difficulty.

That's not going to happen with the amateurs in charge but it's an opportunity we should look to take advantage of. We'll probably spend 3 months chasing Sancho and end up re-signing David Bellion.

Wazza, Clubs need to strike a balance between balancing the books and not selling the golden goose for a bag of beans.

While clubs might need to bring some money in, if they sell their best players for peanuts then they will struggle to perform and reach league finishing position targets.

Imagine if it was us, would we sell Bruno for a pittance to keep the paid if it means we almost certainly wouldn't get top four next season and therefore miss out of 30-40m next season.

It's a balancing act. I wouldn't say all clubs will sell the family silver for a cabbage.

Just look at January, the least amount spent in 10 years. I expect that to continue in the summer.

Shappy - but it's not us, and nobody mentioned swapping a player for a bag of beans or a cabbage. Again you're twisting things.

I said some clubs will need to sell players for less than they would have received two years ago. That's reasonable and expected. I don't foresee a £100m+ transfer for anybody this summer. That doesn't mean that Borussia Dortmund are going to end up with a large beanstalk growing from their pitch.

I also expect summer to be a low spending window, certainly relative to recent years.

But there will be bargains to be had due to the C.V. and we should be in a position to take advantage.

Wazza, do we need bargains or genuine top class well scouted players who'll exactly fit our need?

I think our recruitment has been an absolute shambles, and I don't think the best way to improve that is to buy players who might be out 5th or 6th choice or might not even be a genuine target at all because they are cheap or we could "take advantage" of another sides misfortune.

If a player who is first choice for a key position after months if not years of scouting is available for a reduced price then fantastic.

But if we are just buying them because they are cheap then that's a terrible way to go.

Last summer we signed DvdB because he had a buy out clause which meant we got him "cheaply" even though he wasn't our first choice or played in a similar way to our first choice.

In hindsight was the 40m we paid for him a bargain or a waste of money?

{Ed077's Note - who told you DvdB had a buyout? I am not disputing it just that this is the first time I've heard it mentioned.

I don't care whether we pay 80m or 8m for a player as long as the player performs well for the team. And I don't care whether he was first choice or 10th as long as the signing works .}

Shappy you are totally twisting what I'm saying so there's little point in having the conversation.

"a lot of them [clubs] will have to move players on at a lot less than they would have received two years ago"

What I'm saying: Clubs may accept less than they would have two years ago.
What you're hearing: We must shop in the bargain bin and offer cabbages and beans as a transfer fee.

Good grief.

04 Mar 2021 16:52:17
Wazza, While clubs might have to accept a bit less than two years ago most clubs will have a lot less.

I guess the proof will be in the pudding, if in August the club have spent 150m+ I'll have egg on my face, if they spend less than 70m then you'll have egg on yours.

No Shappy, you're making things up again. Either that or you're just being pig ignorant.

I don't think we'll spend £150m in the summer. I'm saying that some clubs will sell players for less than they would have received two years ago. Nothing in that says we are going on a spending spree.

Investment in playing squad secondary to investment in coaching, manager and DOF in my opinion this summer. This squad is a decent one - and with a proper coaching set up could and should be a challenging for honours.

Eric79 you can't talk sense. The board is unlikely to make any drastic changes anytime soon.
