I don't know if this has been covered but with the rumours of united interested in Varane and pau Torres, has that stopped now Bailly has signed a new contract? Personally I'd have sold Bailly, due to his injury record, and tried to get both of them. They would be a great balanced back two but with Maguire being captain and costing £80m I guess he's not losing his prominence any time soon.
Failling that, If jones and rojo go, I'd bring in Torres first as we don't have a left footed CB. Might this be an option or are all bets of since the ESL collapse?

Sorry for the rambling but I hope you can work out what I'm getting at.

Thanks in advance. YM.

{Ed002's Note - No, Manchester United still have an interest in adding a CB and both players remain on that lengthy list.}

thank you,
hopefully we get someone near the top of the list then rather than our sixth option :-)

Rojo has gone.

Centre back (Torres), defensive midfielder (Rice) and striker (Silva) would do very nicely.

Not convinced about Silva. Is he really going to get 20+ league goals a season? I would love to give two of really good u23 team forwards a chance

And we desperately need another creative attacking midfielder.

The defence is starting to look settled to me. My prediction is that no defender willl be coming in. All resources will go towards a CF.

We need a CB, Varane, Kounde, Pau Torres for me in that order.

A CDM in the mould of Rice would enable us to play with one holding midfielder for certain games. Giving us a more offensive option along side them for breaking down those deep sitting teams.

Then for me a creative forward is more important than a ST. Are problem is that our strikers don't get enough good quality chances. We see when Bruno struggles we struggle. So a RW option who'll create goals rather than look to score them is essential. While Sancho might be the dream, his cost will be prohibitive. Raphinha at Leeds could be a great dark horse option. EPL proven, has a good on field rapour with Bruno. While is also capable of doing something special off the cuff to make a chance completely on his own.

A summer of Varane, Rice and Raphinha would be amazing. Although with our owners I doubt we'll see anything close to that good a summer.

Are Varane, Kounde, Torres that much better than Lindelof - not from what I have seen.
We won't sign a RW - we have Greenwood and just paid best part of 50m on Diallo and Pallestri.
I honestly think big money on a striker, a back-up RB and a few younger players will be the extent of our business.

Varane expensive and would question why real would sell him only to pay alaba big wages? Kounde don't know but won't be cheap would probably look to torres, - pace and young but again price when we come knocking? White and milinkovic could be the better options with fees and wages - also white played epl let go jones, tuanzebe (dont think he'll get his chance now) and wouldve said bailly but just extended so lindlehof. Rice would be good business but we desperately need a forward and would part ways with Martial. Tbh can't see all of that happening with C.V., budgets and we still unsure on sanctions for the esl.

One thought about Torres is he plays left of centre and it's this area we are thin on if Ole is looking for balance.

jgb, Varane is arguably one of the top 3 CB in the world.
4 times Champions League and a world cup winner.
Kounde and Pau Torres are being targeted by Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern. Ofcourse they are miles better than Lindelof and Maguire.

Having a fast CB is essential as Ole intends to play a high line.

Ben White looks like a young Jones to me, no thanks! Not seen much of the other go-to CB names, looks like the Leipzig pair are off to Bayern/ Liverpool too. Feels like we have a settled back four and Lindelof is playing as well as he has. Steady but unspectacular. I’d like to see a more mobile younger CB come in.
Rice will cost a fortune once English and Utd tax are added. Personally can’t see what the fuss is about. Ndidi would cost half as much.

No disrespect but Ole has no clue as to what he wants to play. Speaks it during interviews and does the complete.

Spenno, Leicester charged us 80m rising to 85m for Harry "Slabhead" Maguire. Ndidi is twice as important to how they play and a much bigger "key" player for them. They have almost certainly qualified for the UCL this year. In what world would they charge us less than 80m for Ndidi?

I agree Rice will be expensive. The "United" tax is something we have to pay for every player. The "English" tax is just one of those things.

But more often than not you get what you pay for. If you want a top class CDM who is proven in the EPL then you will pay a huge fee for them.

If you spend half as much on a player who has never played in the EPL then it's a gamble.

Last summer I was one of the people who thought Donny at 40m was a better option than Grealish at 70m. In hindsight it's hard to say that was the right call. Maybe Grealish might have gone off the rails or not have the mentality to step up to a top side. But he can certainly play in the EPL and have a big impact. Something we still don't know if Donny can.

Players like Laimer or Zakaria might be half the price of a Rice or Ndidi, but we know the latter two can cut in in the EPL.

Money will be tight this summer, its important that as many of our signings hit the ground running as possible.

I suspect Cavani will sign for one more year. £14million and one last shot at the CL is a pretty strong draw, especially as he is probably the second name on the team sheet now after Bruno.
