Hi Ed002 if you’re not too busy, a few reports are surfacing that Mourinho/ Roma interested in buying Matic.

Scurrilous click-bait or do they have foundation?

(Also, if he does go, will this bring forward United’s search for a DM? )

Thanks for any answer.

{Ed002's Note - Nemanja Matic (DM) Jose Mourinho would like to take him to Rome with him but he will not be first choice - although the first choice is not looking to be attainable - and there may be some reliance on the sale of Amadou Diawara and Manchester United, who gave him a new contract, being willing to sell him at a reasonable price. If he leaves Manchester United would look to replace him as they don't plan for the careers of players like James Garner.}

Any chance of a sharkopod any time soon Ed?

{Ed002's Note - It won’t be like that this year - Sparky is working on the music and there will be a few hints about transfers interspersed. In the coming weeks.}

Thank you so much for the detailed information Ed002.

Really disappointed to hear Garner not in United thoughts for the future. Given his promising appearances at Forest, you’d think they’d at least give him a pre-season to see iif he can be used next season.

Or at least would’ve hoped they could find a short term solution for another year to give him another season to get ready for the first team.

Very disappointed - thought Solskar compared him to Carrick.

Wallace,

The club appears to prefer to spend vast amounts of money on players with bug names rather than give a youngster a chance.

I think Garner would do well at the club. It is understandable why a few youngsters have refused to sign new contracts and leave. I think with Mata likely leaving and if Matic could be sold, then Garner would deserve a shot at first team football.

However, as ED002 has often said. Utd currently don't plan a path through for the first team for a lot of youngsters.

Garner looks a great prospect and has really kicked on since his move to Forest.

What that highlights for me is just how important regular game time is for the development is young players at that age.

Personally I think Garner needs one more season out on loan, playing every week and developing quickly. The key is that he must play every week.

Coming back to United or even going on loan somewhere else where he'll play once or twice a month is pointless and would actually stall his progression.

We saw this with Gomes, hugely talented but just didn't play enough games and sadly looks like he won't fulfil his early potential.

I think coming back for pre-season with us would be good, get to see how he has progressed and get a closer look at him. Then probably send him back out to Forest for next season.

If it was me I'd loan Garner out next season, move Matic on and bring in someone like Rice. A true holding midfielder who can carry the defensive burden. Then in the summer of 2022 I'd move on Fred and replace him in the squad with Garner.

It's a shame Fulham went down. They try and play football and that would be a good loan for Garner to get Premier League experience too. Think Premier League is where he needs a loan to next, not sure what club would offer him that good experience and play in a way that would support his development. Maybe Norwich? Don't know much about them this season? Brighton potentially but would they risk a youngster to play regularly?

A loan to Brighton would be good. Graham Potter has Beighton playing some good football.

I also agree that it would be pointless for Garner to come back and play once a month, where his development would stagnate.

Williams should have been loaned in January and certainly needs a loan move this summer.

A loan to either Fulham or Brighton for me would need to have a clause about playing time.

My concern would be that a club either fighting relegation or for promotion are less likely to place that trust in a young player. Especially one they don't have any investment or stake in.

Think of it from Potters view. He could play Garner most weeks for Brighton, but if they get relegated then what have they gained? They are in the championship and United have a player who has developed.

It only makes sense to loan him out to a club like Brighton if he is clearly better than the players they have and will start most weeks. If they hold on to Bissouma then that definitely won't be the case.

I think the kid Caicedo that they signed has been brought in to be the replacement for Bissouma anyway.

I think a loan to Brighton would be good for Garner, to fill the void left by Yves Bissouma coming to Manchester United.

Think he should go to Norwich, and Gomes did not do too bad this past season. 30 appearances, 6 goals and 6 assists. Will be good to see how he progresses next season.
