Rumours circulating that Henderson wants to leave on loan in January?

What to do with him?

Let him leave on loan I guess. Maybe a sale with a buy back clause in the summer.

I like Henderson and until the last few games I would have had him as my number one. If we could get a good fee for him, then I guess we would be silly to not move him on as we wouldn't find it easy to move on De Gea.

Kovar coming through the ranks looks like a decent option for the future as well. Seems Henderson got a set back with C.V. at the worst time, and De Gea has grasped the opportunity with both hands.

This time last year I thought we needed to give him a proper run as first choice. He just came back from two years of excellent work at Sheffield United. While DDG had been slowly declining over the past two seasons.

Last season saw a but of a mess with neither being really first choice. Ole seemed to stick with DDG even though his performances were getting worse. Then when DDG left mid season to go to Spain for the birth of his first child Henderson was given a run out. He did okay, well in some games but he did have a bit of a nightmare against Liverpool. Then when DDG returned there was no clear first choice and both players form suffered.

Supposedly Henderson was told over the summer he'd be first choice this year. Unfortunately an untimely injury followed by catching C.V. and suffering with that for a few weeks meant DDG started the season.

This season DDG while maybe not back to his absolute best form, is currently in the best form he has been in for 4 years. He really started to drop off after the 2016 world cup when he received huge backlash for a few mistakes for Spain.

With his current form he doesn't deserve to be dropped and that puts Henderson in a tricky spot. He can't afford to sit on the bench, he has ambitions of his own. Particularly looking at the World cup with England. He needs a loan in January or a permanent move. I think it would be a huge mistake to sell him without a reasonable buyback clause as I'm unsure how long this DDG renascence will last, and I rate Henderson highly.

I said during the summer we can't afford to have another season of indecisiveness in our goalkeeping position. Bad luck for Henderson and hard work from DDG seems to have turned the pendulum in the Spaniards favour.

Now we need to find a solution for Henderson.

I never heard one saying Henderson would be no 1
I never heard Henderson say it
I never heard ddg say he was no2
I often remember someone on here scolding and laughing at people who believe every bit of click bait they read.
Henderson was never told he would be no1 or he would have been reinstated to no1 when fit unless one is a complete liar and leading a squad member up the garden path.
So don't believe the click bait just to convince yourself your right.

I never said it wasn't click bait or anything else. In fact I said "supposedly" indicating the vicarious nature of any such reports.

Henderson himself has said previously that he wants to play, and if that isn't going to be here then he will move elsewhere. That fact that he apparently made no attempt to move this summer suggests he either lied previously or at least thought he would get at least a chance this season.

Again supposedly he is now looking for a loan move in January. Which if true suggests that he feels differently about the chances he will get this season now than he did in the summer.

I suppose you mean he started to drop off after 2018. Because at 17-18 season with Mourinho he was magnificent.

Unless OGS wants to go in a different direction I think DDG has put this debate to bed with his performance and link with the defence. He has shown a more agressive nature that was one of the advantages that Henderson had over him.
Assuming this continues over the next couple of months the club should work on getting Henderson a loan in January with a view that this leads to us selling him in the summer.
This move along with a number of other decisions on players needs to be made to bring in the final pieces that will take the team to the next level (What we do in midfield and is WanBisaka what we need at RB) .

David de gea is our number 1. Fully deserving of it. We've let go of better keepers than Henderson. Ben foster, Sam Johnstone etc.

Herrera, yeah I meant 2018. typo.

Shappy is correct Ken, around 4 weeks ago on the M. E. N. podcast Samuel Luckhurst said "he knows" Ole told Henderson in the summer he would be starting this season as no 1.then he got sick. If the podcasts are available to download you can hear what he said.

Who knows if its true but I lean towards beleiving it.

Samuel lockhurst never makes things up of course how long was he with news of the world or the sun?
So is one that fickle that he will go back on his word after 5 games?
If that is the case Henderson should leave as he can't trust the manager.

12.) 22 Sep 2021
22 Sep 2021 21:42:54
So if it was you then Ken, and you had said to Henderson he'd be first choice then the injury and sickness happens and DDG plays the way he has you'd still stick by your original decision and drop DDG for Henderson?

Surely a place in the team is earned by form, in his current form it would be harsh to drop DDG.

He can go. Never seen anything in him that
Suggests he’ll be a Utd No1.

Fans are a fickle bunch. A slight upturn in form for one of our GKs and an untimely bout of a killer C.V. for the other and our minds swing another way yet again.

Spenno, I'd be more than happy with Henderson as our No.1.

That said I believe a team should be picked on merit. If Fred is our best performing midfielder then he deserves to play, if AWB is out best performing RB then he deserves to play. If Cavani is playing better than Ronaldo then Cavani deserves to start.

I'm a fan of Donny as a footballer. But last season he didn't show enough in the time he was given to deserve to start over our other options. Last night he played well and has started to ask the question about whether he should start.

Henderson's sickness was unfortunate and had he been able to start the season as first choice I don't think there could have been too many complaints. Yet he wasn't.

DDG has started well, made some great and important saves, showed more authority in goal, better distribution and this culminated in a penalty save that won us 3 points instead of just getting 1.

As such it would be harsh and unfair to drop him as it stands. If his form dips again then Henderson should be given a chance.

However, that very much depends on whether Henderson is happy to sit and wait for that chance (which may not come) or whether he wants to go to a side where he can play every week.

Well Shappy, according to Ole last night, "stats don't mean anything". So what should we base team selections on, haircuts?

18.) 23 Sep 2021
23 Sep 2021 12:59:50
Spenno, stats are only useful in the right context. Both looking at the stats and watching with your own eyes you can see DDG is playing much better this season and doesn't deserve to be dropped.

Like I said I'm a big fan of Henderson and think he has the potential to be out No.1 for the next ten years. I think his style of play is more progressive and what I would like to see from a modern keeper.

Yet DDG is the man with the shirt and until he drops a few clangers and his form drops he doesn't deserve to be thrown out of the side. If good performances are rewarded with more game time then you totally undermine yourself as a manager.

19.) 23 Sep 2021
23 Sep 2021 14:10:00
You undermine yourself as a manager if you tell a player he will be no1 next season like you believe and then don't stand over your word. Is ole really that fickle or brain dead?

How many goalkeepers move mid season on loan to be no.1 at a top team. Think options might be limited for Dean, Championship club maybe.

There is a big for sale list I think

Lingard
Bailly
Fred
Martial
Plus some Free’ please take aways.
Carrick

There is no one above united would miss, none of above are good enough.
